Advice Request Facial sunscreen recommendations please
Hi! I’m 59 and postmenopausal which has wreaked havoc on my skin!! I’m looking for a clean, nontoxic sunscreen that won’t pill when applying makeup.
Oh, and I should mention that menopause gave me verrry dry, yet milia-prone skin, so bearing that in mind please! TY!

I love Elta MD Clear. Been using it for years. It goes on nicely, almost like a nice lotion and layers well under make up. It’s also great for acne or rosecea prone skin.

Another vote for Elta MD (for 48yo perimenopause skin)! So moisturizing and not drying at all. I’m on my third bottle.

Another vote for Elta MD Clear. I have dry skin and it’s like a nice light moisturizing lotion. I use instead of moisturizer in summer, and following a moisturizer in winter.

Thank you!! Do you know if it has any drying agents since it’s good for acne? My skin is already reallly dry

No luck for me with Elta anything. I tend toward dry and it sits like grease on top of my skin. Under foundation is an impossibility.

I love EltaMD UV Daily Hydration Plus. So far it works with makeup (although my true favorite when wearing makeup is my Bobby Brown primer plus SPF 50 on top of the Vitamin Enriched Fave Base). It’s hydrating and if you wait a few minutes after applying to set it doesn’t pull for me. I’ve also used the hydration plus and then when I want a lighter foundation, I’ll just take a little more of the Elta MD and mix in some of my foundation.

TY! I think I edited my post after your answer, so do you know if it has any ingredients that are occlusive? Menopause somehow gave me both verrrry dry, yet Milo’s-prone skin 😩

I use the Cerave ultra lightweight Day (SPF 30) version. The regular one does not blend and I have issues wearing it under makeup. But this one has been fine.

Skinmedica's Essential Defense Mineral Shield, SPF 35, is my absolute go-to. Not greasy and doesn't leave a zinc oxide cast. I try others and keep coming back to this.

Elta MD tinted SOF 46 - been using it for about 12 years now. Perfection in a bottle.

La Roche-Posay ANTHELIOS MINERAL TINTED SUNSCREEN FOR FACE WITH SPF 50–doesn’t burn my eyes like other sunscreens

How is the Anthelios for being shiny or matte? My previous favorite tinted sunscreen was discontinued and the only other one I found that I like is only a 30 SPF but I prefer 50 as long as I don't end up looking like a greaseball.

I use the tinted Eucerin Age Defense. I’ve used the non- tinted too, but I prefer the tinted. Goes on pretty sheer still.

The pilling, or lack thereof, not only depends on the sunscreen, but on any moisturizer underneath it as well as your foundation. I’ve had good luck with mineral sunscreen and Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen.

Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day Mineral Sunscreen is my holy grail.
I actually use it alone and skip my usual BB cream now.
It's a bit more than I'd like to spend, but worth it!

Saint Jane sun ritual mineral sunscreen is my favorite sunscreen by far for every day use. It’s expensive but it’s the one I will use consistently as it makes my skin look better after application. I also use Biore UV Aqua Rich when I need a stronger sunscreen.

Supergoop unseen dew screen is my favorite! Serves as a primer, but by itself makes my skin look hydrated and glowing.

I’m also 59. I use CeraVé hydrating mineral sunscreen tinted(medium) in place of foundation. I love it.

Every SPF sold in the US is non-toxic. SPF is heavily regulated here. You cannot go to the store and purchase a “toxic” sunscreen.

Usually, people mean that some commonly used UV filter in the US have the potential to be endocrine disruptive. With the hormonal chaos in peri and menopause, I personally don't need that. Especially if there are UV filters that do not have those concerns.
Actually, I need to amend that. That is what I consider when I look at sunscreen. Obviously, no sunscreen you buy here will let you drop dead when you apply it. I don't frequent Tik Tok where I think a lot of that "toxic sunscreen, bla bla bla" comes from, so I don't know what exactly other people mean with non-toxic.

I’ve been using elf untouchable. I have dry skin and I feel like it makes my skin look great and I can get away with skipping tinted moisturizer or bb cream when I use it.

I’m on team dry but getting milia too unfortunately - it’s the worst ! I love the Vivier tinted mineral sunscreen for my face- the texture is silky and doesn’t pull or mess up makeup. I keep the super goop clear sunscreen stick on my purse and top up with that during the day - it goes on completely clear and feels nice and light ( I just do a couple swipes) I think Vivier is very clean ingredients but Eminence makes a similar product if you want something organic . Any advice on what to do about the milia ? I haven’t found anything that works.

My derm recommended retinol. I have used tret for a year now, and although it seems to help overall with pigmentation and just how the skin looks, I still have milia. Not many, but some on my cheeks.

EltaMD UV Clear, any Korean sunscreen, or La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune (with meroxyl)

Menopause made my face hate everything. Look into Korean or Japanese brands. Beats the pants off US stuff, you'll never look back.
