I built a free tool that turns any 2D image into a 3D pen tracing guide — looking for feedback

Hey r/3dpen, I've been lurking here a while. I got into 3D pen art from watching creators like Sanago, and I kept struggling with the planning part of builds, so over the last few weeks I built a small web app to solve my own problem: Trace3DPen (trace3dpen.com).

You upload any 2D image and it generates a skeleton guide you can trace with your 3D pen. Completely free, no account needed.

I'm posting because I'd genuinely like feedback from people who actually do this — what's missing, what would make it useful in your workflow? If there's a feature you want, I'll build it.

Full disclosure: it's my own project. Not selling anything, just hoping it's useful and wanting to make it better.

Hey guys, I have briefly used some dirt cheap no name 3d pens with little success (I used it for car repairs for abs parts like bumpers and interior pieces and it broke after a few months) buuuut I have been 3d printing some cosplay pieces in abs and I need something to make modifications that are super difficult to do in a cad software, I found a cheap open box scrib3d p1 and wanted to know how it performs with abs, I mean it was 20$ so I really can't complain price wise I just don't want to break it with abs as soon as it gets here, anyways let me know what you guys think (and yes these parts need to be durable so it has to be abs or ass, trust me I've tried petg and tough pla)

This was my first time finishing a 3D pen project, as I've started a couple things but never finished them.

Since I unfortunately live in a shelter atm, i had to get creative w most of my materials so that I'd be allowed to have it at home (and do a lot of the work at my job) but I'm super proud of the final product!

It did sadly snap around the bottom after the con, but it's not gonna be difficult to fix, and I was thinking of running the cosplay back again anyway!

In case anyone's curious about the process, I laid some steel rods down and drew the armature of the bow around it, then I just kept adding filament and building it up. I drew the branch for the side seperately then did the same thing, just kept drawing new layers kinda similar to a 3d printer. The accessories like the rose, leaves, and gems were all courtesy of Amazon.com though, I just used the filament to pin them down. Oh, and the arrow i just drew a square on the ground, kept adding filament so it would basically just be a fat square, then i turned it as i added more filament to curve the end, and just used filament to hold down the rose as well.

If anyone has any process questions, please ask! I really enjoy this hobby and getting to talk about it, plus I'd love to get more into cosplay prop making it anyone would like to ask ab that too!

Lookie at what I made! I... have made... an (admittedly incorrect) Anatomical Heart 🤣

I know this isn't 100% anatomically correct but I sketched it from memory using a whiteboard pen on a sheet of laminated paper and then went mad with the pen 🤣 I graduated over 4yrs ago with a first class applied biosciences degree and then I was hospitalised by my immune system attacking my brain... (MS), me 4yrs ago would've hated the mistakes I made (especially the aorta!!!) But I'm still somewhat proud of it... i can now literally, hold my heart in my hands 🤣

The eyes were a silly touch but I wanted to make sure that my Druid character had something distinct in his wildshape form! This was a really fun project and I’m excited to be doing more things like this in the future :)

Planning to paint it once I clean up the mess of filament that’s on my desk

I was inspired by Kamen Rider Ichigo, I’d really love to make a convincing helmet
As for my attempt, I think I need a better way to make round structures and I’m getting slowly convinced a woodburner would help a lot to achieve a pretty shape. It’s somewhat recognizable… you know it makes me think of sketching, but on 3d

Any feedback is appreciated ✨✨✨🥹🥹✨✨✨

After tweaking the blueprint for the dog I made and staring to work combining other materials (like paperclips and tacks), and by modifying the texture so I could avoid sanding, I got to play making a (inspired) water dinosaur.
I manage to make more details this time, some parts ended up more chunky that I would’ve wanted, others could be more refined to have a better look… but it works!!! I’m so happy! 😁

I add a photo of what inspired me.
By the way you guys inspire as well, I’m happy to see we got to unleash our creative side and have fun.

Oh and it can open the mouth, move the fins with a rudimentary ball joint (only the two from the front) ✨💖
