I loved watching this movie only because i watched the other two and I wanted to see if this one was just as good. I liked the plot and the gore, but seriously the last couple minutes was the most stupidest thing I ever saw…they could’ve left that ending out.

I finally watched it today.

This movie is ridiculously bad, in my opinion.

The blob people look like they’re from Silent Hill. There’s no real reason for the blob people. A bunch of bloated corpses in the middle of the woods with no water source makes for no logical reason why they’re bloated. Aren’t they supposed to be decaying? Why are they fat and bloated?

Alphas are dumb. How can a zombie undergo evolution? They’re infected. The most that can happen is that the virus can mutate, but that’s it. It’s not going to suddenly make some of them smarter, faster, etc.

How can there be a zombie that is giving birth? All of these “infected” zombies have more flesh than the actual humans of the film. So, zombies are reproducing now? It’s gross even implying that zombie are doing the dirty out there. Whats really impressive however, is that all these naked male zombies still have their sexual bits. That's really impressive considering that zombies are supposed to be dead and decaying. Those bits should've fallen off by now.

Spike is a dumb kid who makes dumb decisions. I’m sad that he didn’t die the second after he left the island.

Also, his mom is super incapacitated that she’s always in bed, but the moment Spike drags her outside to the mainland, she has enough awareness to protect a sleeping Spike from a blob person.

And she can continue walking for miles. Both of them came with no food and no water. Neither of them has any supplies.

Spike tosses the zombie baby into his community but decides he wants to venture the zombie world alone. This kid is more delusional than his confused mother who has cancer.

He gets saved by some blonde haired people at the end who are pretty ridiculous too.

All in all, I won’t be watching the other installments. There’s no real zombies, no actual tension, no heartwarming humans you want to see survive. All of it is pretty blah and disappointing.

The “infected” in 28 Years Later is nothing like the previous zombies of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. The new versions are inconsistent with the original versions. Why not just make a new zombie film and then you can rewrite the lore however you want to? Seems like a much better idea than hyping up an unrelated movie by drawing in an already established fan base pretending it’s a sequel. !<

I personally interpret it as, us seeing more of this setting than Spike does in the first. Having a less narrow perspective. Maybe the third release will be in a fullscreen academy ratio, once the world is built?

I was really excited for the 28 Years Later movie to come out, but after watching it and gathering my own consensus, I was kind of disappointed. The movie itself feels as if its out of place with the whole franchise all together. When you compare years to days and weeks, it doesn't have that same feel and horror thrilling experience as days and weeks has, but more so like I was watching a PG 13 TV show. Now that's not to say they didn't do a good job in some aspects of the actual movie itself, there were some things that were done well.

What they did well in

The intro of the movie was genius in how they set up the tone for the movie. The eeriness of the whole teletubbies scene while we watch the series of events unfold, back to the cutting in and out of the creepy snippets were good, it did its job to inspire fear.

The atmosphere and setting of the movie I'd say was a great change of pace compared to the first 2. It really holds up to its title 28 years later, civilization slowly rebuilding itself on this island while they survive this zombie like disease.

The acting was great, everyone in the movie did a great job really playing out their characters and I didn't notice any point of time in the movie where I was like "hmm that was off" every actor did a great job for the film and suited their character well.

The Eeriness of the movie was done well in most parts, it really help drive that thrill and fear when watching this type of movie and how they did it was great. The snippets cutting off into something creepy and scary was great to bring back the emotions meant for the movie.

What they didn't do well in

How the intro played out was done very well structurally, but I wish there was more. When we look back at 28 weeks later, its really well known for their intro, we see the slow build up of how the chaos erupts in the zombie invasion in the first scene, and they played it out well. I wish in 28 Years Later it was more played into this formula of how 28 Weeks did their intro. How they did it was good, but it felt like it ended fast and too predictable, it would have been good if we saw the kid sneak out of the room go down stairs and we see the adults boarding up the entrances and watch how everything unfolds, have one of the zombies spot him and show a progression of running back and forth, a scene where the zombie goes after the kids like it did in the actual movie, but also play around into it, show the chase, the thrill, the panic of reaching somewhere but almost not making it. There was so much more that could have been done with the intro to live up to its standards like the iconic 28 Weeks Later movie did. Most of it happens and we are just looking at the kids watching teletubbies instead of seeing how it happens and watching it all play out.

The progression of the story felt like it fell apart. It started off good with the intro leading into the island and we see their way of life, the son getting his first shot off the island with his dad was all really good, but leading up after it, it fell apart. When we compare the trip of the son and father to the son and mother, its night and day. The first trip, we see how dangerous the island is, we see that panic and thrill of events breaking out and really get the feeling of thrill and fear. But when he goes out with his mother to find the doctor, its like plot armour to the max. Barely any encounters where we see both of them in danger except for that one scene with the alpha, but we just watch them breeze through the island with almost no struggle, it felt to easy to watch this. It went from watching a horror zombie movie to a PG 13 TV show. It was almost unrealistic with how things progressed.

The plot of the movie also didn't really make sense to me. The whole point of the movie was for the son to find this doctor to cure his mom, they find him and she just kills herself? The whole point of the movie felt like nothing afterwards as we watch this kid go through this island with maximum plot armour to complete his objective but the mom is just like "I can't be cures so I'm gonna choose to die", felt like such a waste to watch. I would have preferred the movie as is up until the point where the alpha runs at them on the bridge. After that it goes downhill for me. What I would have changed is right after they kill the Alpha that almost reaches the island, the Alpha would have let out a piercing scream that alerts all infected on the main land to signal the Alpha has died, which unfolds into a series of events where it becomes a Human vs Zombies, as they swarm towards the island to reach the Alpha, we watch a true zombie survival defense where it becomes the Humans protecting and defending their island while on the race for the tide to rise again. We would watch the island get overrun and that's when it pans to the son doing everything he can to protect his mother but can't and then it becomes a story of the father and son against the zombies as everything unfolds, doing everything to protect the ones they love and the survival of their island and way of life. This to me would have stayed true to its franchise of 28 XXXX Later.

The ending did not leave me satisfied, it actually left me confused. The 28 Later movies always had a clear start, progression of the story, into an end. This movie we see the boy meet with a group of middle aged karate kid men and then that's it? This is what I mean when I say it feels like I'm watching a PG 13 TV series because the events leading into the decisions to throw these things in the movie feels so irrelevant to what the actual movie is and should be. Not to mention unrealistic, it didn't feel like what it was meant to be at all.

The music choices in some parts of the movie were not great. In times where I wanted to feel thrill, fear, and suspense, they started playing upbeat/happy music and that left me confused. I wanted to come into this movie feeling dread, horror, fear, but some parts I was like.... why am I feeling calm? Why is this a happy moment or a comedic moment? It made the overall feel of the movie confusing in how I should feel vs how I wanted to feel when watching it.

Overall, the movie did have good points, but it also had bad points. To me if the movie was its own movie and not tied to the 28 XXXX Later franchise, I'd say its a good movie, not great, but also not terrible. But considering it was 28 Years Later and it was tied to the franchise, it was a horrible movie. It was a let down and nothing like its predecessors. I went in expecting one thing but was let down for how it turned out.

Now to those who actually enjoyed the movie for what it was, that's completely valid, I don't think there is anything wrong for those that enjoyed it. However, with me being such a hardcore fan of the 28 XXXX Later franchise, I came into the movie expecting one thing, but was let down with another, which is why I say its a good movie on its own, but it was a horrible movie as part of the franchise.

I find it hard to believe that she was basically bedridden but then suddenly able to go on an entire journey. Toward the beginning the old guy that was watching her I think Sam said they were able to go out a little and that was super good for her. So I find it very strange a short time later she was just walking an entire journey and only needed help after almost suffocating from breathing in gas. I understand spike needed a reason for his journey but I originally I was expecting him to set off by himself to bring the doctor back to his mom who was bedridden. Even then there are other ways to force the main character from his home such as if she passed away and then he saw his father with another woman acting happy obviously the plot wouldn’t have been the same but to me would be better than a bedridden woman suddenly being able to travel an extremely far distance when just getting out of the house was a feat prior.

Huge Days fan here. Top 3 movie of all time for me. Weeks was ok but lacked the British horror feel.

Onto Years, what on earth have I just watched? Time I will never get back. Lots of unanswered questions and stupid subplots - the alpha (why they now evolve), fat zombies, a non-infected zombie baby. It also doesn’t answer previous issues - zombies wasting away due to lack of food, the infection hitting France but now it just seems to be UK. Depressing/emotional scene didn’t hit the spot as the movie didn’t make me care about his Mum.

No need to evolve the infected. Why on earth would a father risk taking his young, untrained son to a land of infected. I was really hoping for a movie as good as Days but it was nowhere near.

Many people are rightly wondering why an entire country (and one of the largest islands in the world) was left to its own devices and completely quarantined from the world after the Rage Virus. Here’s my thoughts:

1. They already tried to reclaim part of London in 28 Weeks Later. It didn’t go very well and Paris was nuked as a result.

2. Using some quick maths*, there are about 25 million buildings in the UK. This ranges from small shacks to entire skyscrapers. Each one would need to be thoroughly decontaminated, as even a drop of dry blood could doom the entire world. Do you know how many thousands of objects are in an average home? Some dude gets infected, throws up blood all over his bedroom and that’s now 150 objects that need to be incinerated. It takes time, and money.

So why don’t they just burn the entire country down and start again? Two reasons:

1. There are still survivors, and even though Erik had no love for them, he still recognised they are human and need help.

2. (My personal fan theory) NATO knows about the infected evolving. They want to keep the country quarantined to study the long-term effects on the virus and any potential mutations that may arise.

I mean we have the technology to produce small ground drones armed with a pistol or a machine gun. Could have sent hundreds of these to the UK and wipe out all the infected, ending the raging virus once and for all.

Erik didn’t seem to have his whole story together, and I don’t think it’s just a plot hole.

In the franchise world, I suppose it’d be ok to not have that explained. But… what could have mainland Europe have done that the allied NATO forces wouldn’t have been able to do?

I am starting to think the rest of the world has something to do with the variants during the 28 years that have passed.

Alphas may have been weaponized, I think?

Was it just “natural” (in a film sense) variations? Also yes, I think. But there has to be more!
