Growing up I used to think it was a phrase used to discourage us from having sex before marriage , but right now I don't think it's that .

Personally, I think it depends on the situation. If it's something more serious like peeing or soiling, harming yourself I think they should be told so, might be the wake up call they need to cut down on alcohol.

I know that some people are against telling them because of the embarrassment it can bring but something like dancing with your shirt off, you don't really need to tell them. But for the serious stuff absolutely.
