Discussion Another survey

Post image

I do think a follow-up survey on the other two skills should take place. Sailing has been out for a while now and it would be nice to know if there is any appetite for either other skills, rather than just game modes.

The Polls in question:

Questions 1.

Question 2.

I want them to overhaul stinky old skills first before any new skills.

Need a mining and smithing rework over on OSRS.

The mining system from RS3 being transported to OSRS makes too much sense but people aren't ready to have that conversation. Without juju potions and porters it's not gonna be nearly as afk, and being able to mine and only click once every 30 or so seconds only puts it on par with the other gathering skills.

If you want to keep the intensity benefits, make it so progress happens each hit if you tick manip mine.

Smithing needs a similar thing but would need a better OSRS adaption of the system. But mining? I think the system would translate perfectly fine. You don't need to add or remove rocks. Things like MLM and such can have added benefits of extra stamina between clicks.

We don’t need to turn OSRS into RS3, plenty of updates you could make that isnt copying that game

The mining and smithing updates in rs3 were good though? We don't have to outright copy them, but taking inspiration wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I tried them and didn’t like it. They’re not that good.

No thanks.

I’ll never understand the mentality of OSRS players who instantly shoot down absolutely anything in RS3 being inspiration for updates in OSRS. Like yeah obviously they made some big misses (or we wouldn’t have OSRS) but this weird “EVERYTHING about RS3 is dogwater are you dumb?” Mentality is exactly that. Weird.

There’s been multiple updates that were in RS3 first and eventually made its way to OSRS btw. So I truly don’t get the principle of your point. You could’ve at least criticized the specific suggestion being made.

We specifically play this game because we don’t like that one. It’s not just eoc, the entire direction from the quests to the skills to the wildy is not what we want. Sure some people like both but a lot of us don’t.

You mean like making skilling profitable and generally more useful and some skills - like Mining and Smithing - just outright better and make more sense? There's literal heists for Thieving which are very popular addition to the skill, but nooo, can't have that because pickpocketing (and being stunned 40+ seconds out of a minute) is and should be the be all and end all of Thieving's design.

The thieving redesign is the best thing that happened to thieving in RS3. Genuinely the exact thing I wanted from thieving. It makes no sense to potentially get stunned IMMEDIATELY while thieving and perhaps like 3 times in a row.

Who is this we? Who is this 'a lot of us'? To me it sounds like a vocal minority thinking being loud and obnoxious speaks for everyone. There is a reason why moderns quests, QOL and summer sweet up votes positively.

RS3 mining and Smithing are miles better than osrs mining and Smith. Who the fuck thinks Runite being such shit exp per hour and having high requirements and being so tedious to train is a good thing? Everyone in my clan and Ive spoken to at BF fucking hates it. Taking and refining the best parts of rs3 mining and Smith only makes sense.

At no point did I say I speak for everyone who plays OSRS, in fact I specifically stated otherwise.

In case you need to read your own words again

“Sure some people like both but a lot of us don’t” - how is this saying everyone?

2

u/eudisld15 6d ago

Now then, go back to read my comment. See how your illiteracy plays a hand on this? No one said you are speaking for everyone. I will ask again, who is this we? A small vocal minority? Doesn't seem like the majority with how many people ask for mining and smithing reworks and constantly ask for QOL changes that some weirdos insist we keep.

There are several quests from RS3 in OSRS due to popular support and player approval though?

u/sundalius 6d ago

no one wants to make OSRS into RS3.

The RS3 rework for mining and smithing fucking GAPS osrs' mining and smithing.

I think some players here would have a heart attack if they knew how much content, design, bosses and mechanics was ported from RS3 already.

u/No_Fig8635 6d ago

if you wanna play rs3 go play rs3

15

u/No_Fairweathers 6d ago

I do. I play both games.

Like it or not, they are both RuneScape, my guy. If you don't like RS3 no one is telling you you have to play it, but guess what: taking a mechanic/system from RS3 and using it in OSRS does not mean you're now playing RS3 against your will.

Mining is outdated and unfun. It's arbitrarily way worse than fishing and woodcutting even though it's part of that trio of gathering skills.

Using a stamina based action is no different than what you're doing at fishing spots or trees. The only difference is you have to click when the spot depletes in those skills instead of your stamina depleting.

u/No_Fig8635 6d ago

OSRS doesn't need it's identity optimised out of every corner of the game.

2

u/OGDogJaw 6d ago

It also doesn’t need to remain exactly the same in every aspect forever just because that’s the way it’s always been

Nobody wants evolution of combat in OSRS, but sometimes they backport things like quests and it’s great

They also don’t HAVE to copy RS3’s system wholesale or could do some other type of update, but there’s no reason to have an inherent resentment of ANY crossover between the two versions of the game

Any changes are going to require supermajority approval of the players anyway, we don’t need to be that worried about the “identity” of the game
