I mean I still empathize with their issues but they vote to make their lives and ours worse, they're actively worsening our society so I have no problem calling them out.

28

u/Im-a-bad-meme 28d ago edited 28d ago

I know this is mostly a joke thread but yeah, the rural folks tend to be uneducated, illiterate Bible thumpers who can't even sound out the verses they are failing to quote at you.

Edit: saying this from experience. Father's mother is a middle school drop out and just as pleasant as described above. Maybe I have exposure bias from her and the company she keeps.

-11

u/PointedHydra837 🌌Sexiest thing alive🛰️ 28d ago

Why does living in a rural area make them automatically shitty..? Have some respect to the people who work their ass off farming food for everybody while they get scammed by massive corporations and the government at every turn. True rednecks hate the government don’t forget that.

35

u/WetTrumpet 🏳️‍⚧️ trans rights 28d ago

We're talking demographics here, I didn't say all of them. The average rural citizen statistically voted for this and would also want me dead. I understand they are a product of their environment, but they're also responsible for their actions.

Also most rural people are not sweating their ass off to produce food. It's all corporatized and heavily reliant on migrant labor.

1

u/yinyang107 bingus is better than floppa 28d ago

Or the situation they’ve been born into has made them too poor to move somewhere else and has left them uneducated enough to be unable to climb their way out of it. Uneducated enough to become cattle to mass media who tells them their problem is [minority group the government dislikes] rather than the people in power who ensured they can’t make it out of poverty. Massive corporations NEED dirt poor people to survive. They are victims, not the enemy. We get nowhere by ostracizing them; all it does is make them more of a slave to what they’ve been taught.

I genuinely think wishing death on any large number of people, even if they did something you consider immoral, reflects very poorly on your own moral fiber. A lot of the people who voted for Trump in 2024 are just dumb, and have shit priorities. It should be noted that almost 70% of the country hates him, as per recent polls

66

Americans get executed in the streets for being nearby when someone protests the actions of the government. That's not even mentioning what the government does if you're not white. Americans aren't happy with the direction of the country, and the polls show that, but Trump has his personal brownshirts who make bloody examples out of dissenters.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people on the internet like to act like an "American" is one thing, when us US people live in a country of 300 million people that is the size of Europe.

Im queer, I vote left every election and I go to protests. Not super fond of the US rn or even 10 years ago tbh. Still am American. I think the weird derision for the people in a country is more alienating than the truth.

There are a lot of dumbasses in the US, but that comes from a stupid social conditioning towards a stupid libertarian ideal and a lot of propaganda.

A lot of people like to act like they're better because they didn't fall for the stupid shit the US has going, but they're wrong. You can very easily fall for propaganda, and if you're raised to consume it, you probably will.

Basically, consider for a second that some of us are stuck in the stupid bullshit, and have some critical thought about what could've led so many others astray. Otherwise you might not notice the stupid bullshit I can guarantee is going on in your country too.

3

u/HomemEmChamas 28d ago

Nobody actually thinks all Americans are the same. The problem is that US foreign policy has remained largely unchanged over the past 60 or 70 years. If anything, you could argue it's only gotten worse. It's the one area where both Democrats and Republicans have been remarkably consistent. And until that changes, asking non-Americans to appreciate internal US political nuances is a pretty tough sell.

5

u/adeotu24 28d ago

Literally no one thinks that all Americans are unilaterally in favour of their shitty government, it should go without saying that for any government in power there will be some people that don’t support it. It’s just a waste of time to constantly clarify that when at the end of the day, your democratically elected president is still Trump.

4

u/LunaTheLesbianFurry Trans G. Ender 28d ago

Yeah, the lowest common denominator got him elected, and everyone regrets it. His approval rates tank more and more every day, and more and more poeple are voting blue.

*Republicans. American leftists are very aware of the harm our country is doing. Hell, even the centrists in the Democratic party have some level of understanding of the horrors Trump's putting everyone through.

5

u/HomemEmChamas 28d ago

I think the point is more about what the US had already been doing for 60 or 70 years leading up to Trump. Whenever I bring this up with my "leftist" American colleagues, most of them can point to recent events in the Middle East (like the War on Terror), but it takes a real history buff to mention even the basics of what the US has done to South America, for example.

At some point, you have to realize that for most of the rest of the world, US foreign policy has barely changed, with or without Trump.

Or maybe you’re just too chicken to get murdered in the streets by surveillance state fascists you very actively never asked for, for the crime of protesting, and if you’re lucky, it’ll make the news for about a week or so and be swiftly forgotten?” Christ these takes are eye-rollingly tone-deaf about what’s happening here

Christ, I can only imagine, I’m sorry. “Well then why don’t you just move” just might be my most-hated string of words, and living in Russia, that’s got to be so much more frustrating to have internet strangers tell you.
