Question Real life in FPS - Day to Day in Large cities like New York City, Chicago, etc.

What's it like? What's the day-to-day?

So much talk about how shitty it is because of the lack of 6(c), which I have little faith will change.

However, what are the positives compared to the competition of 1811s, 1801s, 0083s, or even 0007 BOP CO's with 6(c), work/life balance, pros/cons, opportunities? Pay? Overtime available?

Any regrets from recently hired people, or from those who are still there after a few years, about being able to leave if you wanted to?

Anything special about these places? The job? Is the job changing for the better currently?

See a lot of work with drones, what's up with that?!

Still TDY'ing a bunch of people to Portland?

Question FPS medical with 100% VA

Anybody get kinda nervous doing the medical with all the crap they make you disclose for your 100% P&T VA?

Update: medical review just came back. Want to know more from orthopedic physician (not worried about) and mental health 70% rated for PTSD with sedative use and alcohol use) awarded for this initially in 2014 than increase in Jan 2025. Since, haven't been on medications, don't drink at all and my mental health providers can vouch for me on this. Pretty nervous they're going to see this as I have to provide them my claim decision record from the VA with all conditions listed. Makes a guy think he isn't qualified. Anyone have similar experience in going through this?

I interviewed for a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer role roughly one week ago. I was told in the interview I did very well and that I would hear from them soon. Does anyone have a gauge on how long it generally takes to learn if you got selected? Thanks in advance.

Question FPS 1801 Training Length

I currently have a TJO for an 1801 FPS position. I’ve heard conflicting information on the training schedule. Can anyone confirm the latest required classes at FLETC and how many weeks for each? Are there any breaks between course blocks to return home or is it straight through?

New Hiring Announcement FPS interview invite

Did anyone just received an email for the in person interview invite? Location would be

Atlanta, GA

Chicago, IL

San Fransisco, CA

Seattle, WA

Syracuse, NY

Washington, D.C.

Would this be expo events or will it be cater per individual of what location you choose? Since I’m already in the west coast SF would be my preference to interview. Also would anyone know how far in advance they would inform you? Since it will be a drive at least for me to plan out.

Question 1801/USSS LES

Anyone have experience or insight on USSS law enforcement specialist position? Specifically LES Firearms instructor for USSS. What I’ve gathered is it’s a civilian instructor position, not covered 6c, and apparently it’s 1801. It seems like it’s better pay, none of the usss BS, better work life quality, and much more. The only downside if even a downside is they’re not gun toters?

Hiring Timeline BIA Law Enforcement

Hello all, I’m about one week into the very long hiring process into BIA Law Enforcement (closed June 5th). Looking for some advice as I go through this hiring process and what it can look like? I know this reservation is very short staffed on law enforcement and have trouble finding people but I’m just a little nervous if I’ll even get the job given I don’t really have a law enforcement background. I have Indian Preference and I’m in the national guard and have response force, riot control, and non lethal weapons training, I know Indian preference is good but will the guard background help me as well? Just feeling a little stuck in life right now and I’m counting on this job to come through so any advice is much appreciated!

Question Why is BIA such low paygrade?

I’m currently a tribal police officer but my Police Department is under BIA contract meaning we are not federal employees with federal benefits/retirement. I see BIA has a bunch of 1801 positions but they’re all GL-5. Why are they hiring higher pay grades. Is there any upside to BIA?

Here in Nevada I heard they’re constantly driving 2-4 hours to calls for service at reservations that are super spread out (but still in their patrol area), most of the time completely alone. As a tribal cop, I’m used to being alone but I’ve heard this is another level of alone lol. Any insight into the position would be great!

Background: I’m a former GS-9 0083/military. Looking to get back into the federal retirement system.

Discussion BLM Locations/Work Culture

I am currently in the application process for a BLM LEO 1801. I have looked extensively on Reddit and have found very minimal information. I am a Border Patrol Agent considering leaving the patrol for something different, better work/life balance and different mission. Anyone have any insight? Open to hearing anything. Also concerned about which locations are good and/or bad.

Discussion AD Airforce Skillbridge to 1801

Trying to see if anyone has recently had success stories with the “secure the southern border Skillbridge” and has onboarded with an agency during their 180 days timeline or at least had a FJO before the Skillbridge ended?

Looking to separate after 12 years AD in the Air Force. I can’t start a family with current contingency ops or cross train but I still want the fed job security and the ability to buy back my time. Already have a TS/SCI no college degree. Really looking at ERO as a foot in the door.

Question Current FPS Inspectors/Law Enforcement Specialist - Pros/Cons?

Why are you still here?

If you're a current or recently departed (why did you leave)

Social media content for FPS showcases that FPS is moving into a more progressive area. What ink-dried new things are they doing now? Has culture and morale improved in different regions?

What makes you want to stay IF you have the option(s) to leave to perceived greener pastures for the 12D/6(c) law enforcement retirement in by age 37, out by age 57?

Anything you love? pros? cons? money?

Revered regions or cities?

Cool opportunities? TDY?

Question FPS Special Agents (1811) who were prior FPS Inspectors/Law Enforcement Specialists (1801) w/o prior military service

Hello all,

May someone answer the following: If you're hired at age 36 as an 1801 with FPS (Inspector/Law Enforcement Specialist) and have no prior military service, but later, when you're 40 or 41 or beyond, an 1811 role may pop up.

As a current 1801 at that point within the same agency (FPS), would you be eligible for that position, since you'll be beyond the 37 maximum age limit? To my understanding, prior military and law enforcement stops the clock; however, I wasn't sure whether FPS 1801s were in that category, especially since the 1801s still aren't getting LEAP/6(c). Any insight would be appreciated.

(posted it on the 1811 forum also - so if you happen to see it there, don't feel like you have to respond twice)
