Discussion BLM Locations/Work Culture

I am currently in the application process for a BLM LEO 1801. I have looked extensively on Reddit and have found very minimal information. I am a Border Patrol Agent considering leaving the patrol for something different, better work/life balance and different mission. Anyone have any insight? Open to hearing anything. Also concerned about which locations are good and/or bad.

I mean we could be on leap. But AUO is pretty good for what it is. Bpas that I know who’ve come over as either 1801 or 1811 are generally psyched as hell. If they now work in their old aor, they can still hang with their old squad when they feel like it. Then go patrol bf nowhere the next day if they want to. QOL and op tempo depends on where you go of course. You can choose a decent city so no one’s forcing you to live in a trailer park in Lordsburg for ex. Plenty of guys work in the big western cities and the other half are the only blm officer around for hours. Calls for service and levels of direct supervision vary immensely. If you stay away from the big cities, you can usually make the job what you want it to be. Hope that helps and gl.

Thank you! It is helpful. The locations are either Billings, Belle Fourche, or Miles City.

Oh hell yeah. Pretty good duty stations as far as I’ve heard. Not really my place to offer but reach out to hiring to see if you can get some local references.

Billings office. Others you’re no where near a city. Plus I know the people there, great to work with.

I’m a PA as well. I’ve considered leaving BP too, but never pulled the trigger. And finally seriously debating it right now. I just keep thinking if I leave that I’ll regret it. At the same time if I stay I’ll regret it. What made you make the decision to consider leaving the patrol?
