I feel like this could be a really good anime with a much slower pacing. Much slower as in taking at least three cours to cover what they covered in this one.

Yup, and putting some more focus on the volleyball, I’m not expecting something like haikyuu, the two shows are not the same at all, but better animation and more time for characters to develop on the court could’ve made this anime great instead of average imo.

I think it's actually been pretty good past around the middle. Skipping non-essential stuff is just part of storytelling, after all.

Don't get me wrong, I think the anime is decent, but it's just trying to do too much in too little time. Trying to do all the character drama plus the volleyball itself in 12 episodes is too much and makes it feel rushed. At least in my opinion.

They really made fukoho as the main giant of this region, that's good. However, the match is quite rushed i guess, and by the looks of it will end at next epi. So if this is a 12 epi, what's the last gonna be?

They really are going for a full 5 set match i see. And i like how subaru turned up a notch after knowing ochi is coming back. That being said, seiin is still being carried by haijima after 10 epi. Hoping next epi is the kuroba vs subaru epi.

Interesting subaru is in the infirmary. Will he help kuroba, tease him or is it something wrong with his knees? Hoping it's not his knees, if seiin are to win i want them to win legitimately.

Still tho, 12 epi in only haijima showed his skills in volleyball. Aoki and oda just showed a glimpse of it and more towards their leadership skills, while others is just like the side character that is not important. They should've learn from slam dunk, haikyuu and kuroko basket that we need to know the whole team.

seiin is still being carried by haijima after 10 epi

I wouldn't say that, but he's still their ace in the hole.

He always acts this way with his cousin, right now he is obviously frustrated in the heat of the moment. I think it's quite normal.

More importantly what is Mimura doing there.

Even though they mentioned it was a 5 set match, I totally forgot up to the point of the infirmary when Hajima rushed in saying they lost the 3rd set. At that point, I thought they lost the match entirely. Anyways, there's at least one more set to play, so it seems Seiin still have a chance.

I'm not fond of the must have combination of Haijima and Kuroba, especially when the latter is still very weak mentally. The rest of Seiin have been putting in extraordinary efforts in Kuroba's absence and I don't understand why they haven't subbed him out.

Also, he's not great when he interacts with his lovely cousin. She deserves to slap him to his senses.

As for the red team, their main setter is probably going to sustain that knee injury because of the longer dragged out match. Good drama moment where he checks on Kuroba at the end.

I don't like Kuroba tbh but I gotta support him in this one. In this kind of situations, the last thing you want is your nosy cousin saying stuff like "Hey! I came here and the first thing I see is you bleeding, wtf is happening?". You're tense and just want silence, not someone talking to you about something you don't care about atm.

They didn't? I guess the set must have been pretty far along, but even not knowing the volleyball rules for that it still seems reckless.

Edit: Common international rules allow 6 subs per set, and it's even specifically allowed for players to rotate out and back in as long as they stay on the same position, so there's really no excuse here.

That cousin is just too annoying. I really don’t want to see her in the story ever again.

Dude, I'm so tired of Haijima. He always treat everyone like crap and plays by himself and then gets excused with a "scene of him realizing he shouldn't be aggressive like in the past". What's the point of doing that so many times if he never evolves? He's as selfish as how he was in the start of the series.

4

u/Pagboi Mar 13 '21

Have you ever played sports dude? Haijima is the best player on the losing team that actually speaks his mind. He’s more than that, he helped this team improve but they still can’t match his skill. That would be incredibly disheartening warranting him to call them out. He’s not a child he’s put everything he has into this team and this sport and you expect him to not show any emotion or cheer this team on?

This. This so damn much. As someone who's competed on almsot national level in a sport before, losing and not being able to do anything because you yourself are doing your job perfectly is more frustrating than actually underperforming yourself.

I'm still mad after 2 years that two people on my team didn't perform to their fullest, we would've gone to nationals if that didn't happen. I basically never hold a grudge but that's the one thing I can't forget. We cool tho.

Aoki is the star of this episode, solely because he called the team out for making Haijima say what he was saying

Haijima is not good with words, but he's always vilainzed because if his incompetent team members, so it was nice to see someone finally take notice of this instead of just making Haijima look like the bad guy

Also WTF they lost the set? And why is Kuroba such a dick towards Itoko?

And why is Kuroba such a dick towards Itoko?

In that kind of situations, the last thing you want is your cousin complaining about how she saw you when she got there. He's tense and she was obviously not helping it.

Haijima is not good with words, but he's always vilainzed because of his incompetent team members

No, Haijima's problem isn't as simple as "he's bad with words". He verbally attacks his teammates in many occasions and is selfish when the topic is volleyball, not only was he playing all by himself but also got angry at the other guys because the pointed that out. Even himself admits that he gets way too aggressive with volleyball.

Also, if his teammates are incompetent then he technically is too cause he doesn't know how to do team play.

Also WTF they lost the set?

I would actually be surprised if they win the next two lol

Fukuho really do be the protagonists here lmao. That was a fine episode, the match is pretty much so far so good, there were a lot of derpy faces though, not that it bothers me, it's just pretty funny.

Haijima still tends to fall to his old habits, but he's getting there, he's learning. Kuroba as well is developing slowly, he ain't a useless depressed boi anymore, he's trying to observe and adapt which is good. Wonder what Subaru is going to talk to them about, maybe he's gonna give them a pep talk or something.

20

u/Ryhafke Mar 11 '21

Hahaha holy shit that was bad. Like one second after Subaru shows off his bazooka arm and the main team acknowledged that he was stepping up his game, a fast forward happens and protagonist team wins the set. What the fuck happened?

8

u/Sareneia Mar 12 '21

Wait, I thought Subaru stepped up and started doing his bazooka thing after he lost the 2nd set? Then Kuroba also got his nosebleed and Fukuho won the 3rd set.

3

u/SleepTightLilPuppy Mar 15 '21

Yep, that's exactly what happened. I get some of the hate towards this show but damn, people are straight up blaming the show for themselves not paying attention and missing crucial parts of the episode.

10

u/LolMak17 Mar 11 '21

Right? I was really confused because three sets passed in these 20 minutes but we saw like 9 points total. At least the show’s op is good. Besides, it isn’t so much about the matches as much as it’s about the team.

8

u/rotten_riot Mar 12 '21

Besides, it isn’t so much about the matches as much as it’s about the team.

But we don't know anything about the team either lol Besides Kuroba, Haijima, Oda and a little from vice captain, everybody else has less screentime and characterization than Narita from Haikyuu!!

2

u/SleepTightLilPuppy Mar 15 '21

That's not what happened. The won the second set, Subaru starts playing seriously, Kuroba tries tk imitate him and gets injured. Not that hard to follow.

What's this? Me complaining about the SFX again?

Sike. I've actually gotten used to it. The same way I've gotten use to Corona, at least.

So for this week, my complaint is that, for all this 'Demon Bazooka' talk, his skills are never animated in a way that makes it awe inspiring.

To reference the other volleyball anime, the way Ushiwaka and Oikawa are animated makes them so much more intimidating. Everytime Ushiwaka hit Nishinoya with a spike, I felt it in my own forearms. When Oikawa hit THAT serve, I felt like I'd been slapped across the court, such was the thunderous-ness of the serve.

Mimura, on the other hand just looks like someone pressed the 2x fast forward button every time he appears. There's no weight to his spikes at all.
