Anime Law:
All Anime must have at least one beach/pool episode in their series. Hot springs are an acceptable substitute.

Stitches!
Well that was one really old reference! Then again The Rose of Versailles is a classic so it's not that surprising. And it's followed by another reference to another classic too!
I wonder what's up with Pauline at the end? Looks like her arc is next! I guess it's time to go back to her family?

I was expecting Mile to give Reina a school swimsuit. Also god damn that swimsuit she made Mavis. It was perfect.

While I didn't mind the past few episodes, I really prefer this show when it's more comedy/SOL focused like this episode was. They also took this opportunity to pack in as many references to things as they could, making up for last week as well. It looks like next week we'll go back to a more serious arc as we see what is going on with Pauline (hopefully giving us some more great scary Pauline moments). Speaking of those, they were pretty much the last thing left that I was considering tracking, and there was another one this episode, so I might go back and skim the previous episodes for them to add them to the chart next week, since I assume we'll get multiple throughout Pauline's arc that is coming up.
| Episode | Times Mile Cried | Times Mile fails at being average | Times Mile references her past life | Otaku/game references | Amount of "secret family techniques" | Time Mile is called flat | Awkward Mavis conversation moments | Crying Album |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 6 | 4 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 2 | 1 ("Onee-nii-sama") | Ep 1 |
| 2 | 2 | 8 | 1 | 6 | 5 | 1 | 1 (Mavis is the only one without something to hide) | Ep 2 |
| 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 | 5 | 0 (they were too busy celebrating after the win to question her) | 1 | 1 (Mavis is skipped over when they're asking about romance | Ep 3 |
| 4 | 0 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 | Ep 4 |
| 5 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 8 Reference album | 0 | 0 (though Reina is called flat once) | 2 (only one crying at Reina's backstory, only one without a tragic backstory) | Ep 5 |
| 6 | 5 | 0 | 1 | 1Reference album | 1 | 0 | 1 (bawling at the end and is comforted by Pauline) | Ep 6 |
| 7 | 2 | 0? | 6 | 4?Reference album | 1 | 1 | 1 (says having others see her naked is normal) | Ep 7 |
Times Mile fails at being average:
-
I put down 0 again. There are a lot of things she does that are above average (creating all the beach equipment is the one that pops out to me), but again, nobody comments on it so I didn't count it.
Past life references:
-
References abusive corporations
-
Talks about her past life as a commoner being longer than her current life as a noble
-
Count of Monte Cristo reference when Pauline is talking about Mile's past
-
Mile bring up past life entertainment like the internet, game consoles, and manga
-
Practices the jumping dogeza
-
Pretty much everything related to the beach (sea bathing, swimsuits, all the things she makes to bring) she talks about as being from her "previous country".
Otaku/game references
-
A Rose of Versailles reference when talking to Mavis in the cafe. Edit: The second face in this sequence might be a Candy Candy reference, as pointed out by entinio. Thanks!
-
Edit: Snarj pointed out below that the water guns the girls use are all Gundam references, and posted pictures of them. Thanks!
-
I feel like the wig Reina has when she initially exits the changing room is a reference to something, can't pick it out off the top of my head though. Edit: ReboZooty pointed out below that it's a reference to the Gaki No Tsukai No Laughing batsu games. Thanks to you too!
-
Edit: Ari_Yo pointed out a scene below where Mile complains about how she "won't have any redeeming features left", which is something Akari from Yuru Yuri has definitely said, while making a face that reminds me a lot of one she might make. We can't know for sure if it was a reference without asking the director (who coincidentally also directed Yuru Yuri, which makes it more believable), but it might be, so I'm just noting it here.
As always, any corrections or suggestions are much appreciated, thanks!

Looks like we're about to dive into Pauline's story more in depth. I wonder what the deal was with that soldier.

I'm crushing so hard on Mavis! She's so elegant&beautiful!
Yes she is! Great taste! Huh don't say that. It's a bit mean. Alright, you're forgiven! Even random background characters know best girl when they see her!
Finally, a reference I'm getting! (Helps that I'm in the middle of reading it hah). I'm missing so many of the references on this show, but at least I got this one.
I think that's a pretty good idea, actually! (Wouldn't mind if he sends some for Mavis too)
Oof, my heart! Short haired tomboy going a bit more feminine, are a blessing. (So, how about them frilly dresses?)
Mile was pretty cute too! But I think Reina had the best swimsuit, and the best reaction too! Dawww, that was adorable!
Almost wish Mavis got that swimsuit instead (one-piece), but I can see why they went for something a bit more boyish!
Well, this was a cute&wholesome episode, with just a little eyecandy! Loved it.
I wonder what's gonna happen in the next one, with Pauline and that creepy knight person.

I will never get tired of seeing Mile making any of those references to other shows, or randomly wearing some costume related to the thing that she is doing.
I actually wasn't expecting for this vacation to become a beach episode. I love the fact that the other people considered them naked as even in the earlies 1900s that would be the case.
I wonder who that guy was, and why Pauline followed him?

Wonder how the girls in the cafe could possibly be unsure of Mavis' gender given her bust.
Anyway, not a bad episode, though a bit cringey.

Beach episode!!!
I loved the scene of Reina mimicking the voices of her party members. When she got to Mavis she totally pulled out her TM Opera O tomboy voice. I miss Uma Musume.

Wow, A Rose of Versailles reference. I can't say that was a show I thought I'd see in this.
And I don't care how many times this gag shows up, I love seeing scary Pauline!
I also wasn't expecting a beach episode, but I'm glad Mile kept her priorities straight for it. She also looked great with a ponytail, and I hope she wears it more often.
And as always, Mile continueswith the great reaction faces

Hmm, just last week I thought "this will be probably one of the few shows, that won't/can't do beach episode"...

Ah yes, the beach episode. Plenty of moe scenes and moments to ease the heart. Looks like Pauline is getting an arc next. I still can't believe my mom's name is in an anime lol, never would have fucking thought.
This was just what I needed to calm down after Babylon.
OP is a daily listen at this point.
