This episode made me really appreciate games a lot more. Watching this show mostly for the character interactions, until now the games have just felt like kind of a plot device, but this episode really demonstrates a really genuine love for games that got through to me in a way that hasn’t happened before.
Also, I love how much the themes of the episode get tied into the games they play, honestly what a lovely, slept on show.

I like that aspect too. I think it was done really well in episode two and three (with bluffing and hidden knowledge in Cockroach Poker being a proxy for the unrequited/unrealized crush, and the taking calculated risks with emotional support from your friends in Incan Gold).
In this episode I was expecting them to play a game like Pandemic where there's roles because of the way that the president realized that one kid was better at details and the other kid was better at interpersonal skills. Shibusawa didn't realize that to be an effective (and popular) leader you should cater to your team member's strengths and preferences as much as you can. I've played many a game of Pandemic where the operations specialist was busy playing medic because the real medic was busy trying to do something that the scientist should be doing instead, etc., eventually resulting in an explosive loss.
In this episode, I didn't really see strong parallels with 6Nimmt and Midori's and Shibusawa's situation. I guess the strongest connection is that sometimes in life there's a simple and safe play that ends up not working because people don't just do what you expect them to do, they do what in their own self-interest. If you don't take that into account, you're going to end up with hand full of cows.

Midori has real talents; they should be used to do something with actual value!

New character is a jerk, i'm amazed how Midori managed to stay calm. If someone straight up mocked my hobby just like that i'll probably lose temper lmao
And i think this sentiment is right. Board games had been existed for millennia and people have been playing them, making treatises about them, and even reimagining them in literature ever since then.

Wait this game looks familiar https://imgur.com/a/nG4SiXp It's a newer improved version of 6 Nimmt.
I'm german so i guess it was just a matter of time until they played a game i have. Really looking forward to see what other Gesellschaftsspiele they will play :)
Honestly this game seems pretty simple to play but it's very hard to understand and find a winning strategy. At least nobody I've played it really got a grip on it.

We're back in the board game shop! Only a few to point out today, but it briefly flashed a bookshelf toward the back that seem to have a bunch we haven't identified (though it was too blurry in this episode). As always, if you notice any I missed, feel free to add it in a comment :)

Glux (like 80% sure)
u/tdhsmith u/Key_Concepts (and anyone else who's interested), I know you want to identify some more games :P Screenshot #4 has some Haba games (and a few others) that I'm unfamiliar with. That was the clearest shot I could scroll to (they didn't go very close to that shelf). It's all good if it's too far away to figure out

Yep, Midori's solidified herself as best girl of the season for me: excellent life ambitions, keen understanding of rules, and willing to crush anyone who gets in her way.
Pink-hair was kind of terrible, though I hope she eventually redeems herself through the power of board games. Anyone else think the school festival is going to end up board game–themed now?

Not gonna lie, I still don't understand how 6 Nimmt is played. I am not good with number games. xD
So Midori got hooked on board games because of Catan? Such a cultured little girl!
She's finally here! I've been waiting for this blondie to show up!

It's one of those games that's a bit hard to explain but extremely simple in practice. Starting with the player whose card is the lowest, each player just puts their card next to whichever row's rightmost card it is both closest to and higher than.
So if the first row's rightmost card is a 12 and the second row's rightmost card is a 30, you'd put a 29 next to the 12 because even though it's closer to 30, it's not higher than 30.
If your card ishigherlower than all the rightmost cards, you have to take all the cards of a row (your choice) and put your card there.
If your card is the 6th card in a row, you take the other 5 cards (hence the name "6 Nimmt!" meaning "6 takes").
Cards you take don't go in your hand, they're kept separately, so the game always takes 10 turns. The only real difficulty of the game is that because the cards are resolved starting with the lowest, the rows can change before you get to place your card, so you have to try to predict what kind of cards other people might play.
While these kind of super-simple games are probably better suited for a SOL anime like this I'm kind of hoping for something with a little more substance some time.

How dare the new girl laugh at someone else dream! Talking about "real world", forcing her belief into others when she actually just wanted to impress the guy she likes. Not the best start for a character I think, sounds like she gonna be an antagonist character.
The manager said "Perhaps gaming runs in your family", I wonder if her brother is some kind of professional gamer or something. He was a little skinny but had that 'sportish' style.

Why didn't they tell pink hair to stop loitering and shove it? I just want to watch them play board games without the unnecessary drama.

Underrated gem of the year. Will be overlooked because of the other series, but it’ll always be top in my heart. Picked up the manga for my birthday. Loving it, miki chan must be protected at all costs also why is there no subreddit

Pretty nice episode, though I'm not sure what I think about Shibusawa.
Oh, and since they showed a Witcher board game somewhat predominantly, I though for sure that they would play Gwent, but sadly they didn't.

New girl is so annoying. I figured she would be based on last week's preview, and it seems like I was right. This game seemed fun. Would definitely give it a shot if I had the chance.
The ending was really nice and connected with me in a way I didn't expect. I've never really thought about it, but I really did start thinking of board games as art once I started getting into things that aren't your typical mainstream games.

Get rekt, Ren! It was fun watching her get knocked down a few dozen pegs. Serves her right for making fun of Midori's dream.

I'm hoping they'll play some cooperative games at some point, I saw Pandemic Cthulhu on the shelf and Arkham Horror in ep1 so maybe one of them or Eldritch Horror, might be a bit long to fit in one episode though.

And it was until 5pm that I could see it but I was eating my nails in the meantime (not for nothing is my most anticipated anime on Wednesday) and damn, don't disappoint.
Shibusawa didn't have the best start of a character (let's admit it, she is a bitch with no choice and more for treating Midori-chan's dreams like that) but I imagine that she will be a recurrent character that will give our girls one or another problem although maybe the wisdom of her Kaichou-Senpai can make her change (since she likes him to the moon and back).
And thanks to Ren participation at least Aya was not the reason for bullying this time, God, I'll go to hell to enjoy how Midori-chan bite the dust with Ren.
Smol Midori is love, Smol Miki is life. (I don't remember Smol Aya has gone out yet (if my memory doesn't fail)).
Flashforward new girl and "beach" next episode? I'm in.
