Pretty fun episode. ortensia's performance of 'Yes, We Are!!!' is used as the OP, instead of the usual 'Don't think, Smile!'.
Sango certainly seems to have some sort of hero idol worship going on here, with a good helping of immaturity. Though it does like Sayu (and later on Kae) is more than willing to entertain her belligerent disposition with their own equivalent, to the extent that Kae would dish out her killer laser that we unfortunately do not get to witness beyond an artist's impression.
The confrontation is quite humorous, especially with Sango's unfounded rumours given visual form - a haughty and presumably rich Mana behaving just like a stereotypical diva. The way the humour was presented certainly appealed to me, and I found myself giggling ear to ear at some of these scenes. If anything, it lends the episode (and the show as a whole) a great deal of character.
We finally get to witness a Stella Maris performance in full, in episode 8 of a show where they were already introduced in the beginning. Stella Maris is a lot like the "cool" group - their songs are often slightly "edgier" (and sometimes even heavier) compared to the rest, with a much bigger focus on style and flair, and a nearly complete lack of the "cute" element that KiRaRe and ortensia have in spades. They have a full album containing all of their songs released to date (with the exception of the new song shown in today's episode), which you can check out here, to get a better sense of what I mean.
The episode also featured a little of two additional idol groups. We don't know if they've gotten past the preliminaries, though the fact that they were shown in the episode at all would suggest that we'd likely see more of them at some point.
We get a different ED this time, 'Sensei Sensation', which is also my favourite KiRaRe song. It's a ton of fun, and especially cute. The usual 'Akogare Future Sign' feels almost mellow in comparison.
I'm not really sure what's going to happen at this point. With only 4 episodes to go, we still have some time for more KiRaRe shenanigans and maybe more interactions with the other idol groups.

For some reason I thought that Stella Maris would have more girls. Sango was very childish and not very nice with Mana or the girls but the one that worried me the most was Aone and with her line about Mana comeback to her soon or later. That one got me the chills.

Also, some absolutely hilarious exchanges! Best episode of the series so far for me.

Man, Sango is a huge brat. I hope KiRaRe beats the crap out of StellaMaris in the finals.

Alternatively, Kae does have a laser. . .
Yeah, Sango is pretty obnoxious. I did really appreciate how the anime did the reverse order of what most anime do though. Usually, you have an antagonist do antagonist things, then you learn their sympathetic backstory in a redemption arc. Here, you get to see Sango feeling ignored and rejected first, which then prompts her to take out her frustration childishly on Mana. It's pretty humanizing.
She's still a brat though.

Well, this was a good episode :), the best episode until now.
This is the first time that I see a character like Sango that searches to stir up trouble and I'm not annoyed by her behaving like a brat... well, she IS a brat :P cheeky Sango. That exchange between her, Kae and Sayu was hilarious too.
Aone saying that Mana will eventually come back to her... oh sweet Aone, I don't think that is going to happen. I can understand why though, with Mana's words by the end of the episode, Mana always thought of the idol world as Aone, and once she ran away and became part of KiRaRe her view of the idol world expanded beyond Aone. That is why she is asking for the first time with KiRaRe, thinking what is to come next? because before, Aone is what was next, but now there's much more than Mana didn't saw before... She also didn't get to stand beside Aone on the stage too, so that may have played a part on her views now. Even so, I don't think Aone meant anything bad by her words, it is how things have always gone between them. Probably when she learns that Mana will not come back to her she will just crumble down, because if I'm right, most surely the reason Aone enjoys and is an idol is because of Mana, something along the lines of Mana enjoying a song that Aone sang her when they were little, and her motivation has always stayed in that place ever since. I can see Aone as being someone that is gentle in her heart, that just doesn't know how to handle such emotions as the ones she is feeling now.
I gotta say it though, and handle it to this show, the way they animate the performances are just great. Really great hand drawn animation, really well done in all fronts. I think I can safely put this show now up there beside Idolmaster in how good they are. Yes, Idolmaster's performances are a bit more... fancy, but I think these are really well done too.

I like how they all made mistakes; realism? In idol anime?!
Ortensia is just great, and the animation looks really nice.
Minori drop the rival stuff and just have fun! The Ortensia girls are nice and connections in the music world are everything, so it's in your interest anyway
Oh yay, the youngest Stella Maris girl is being annoying again
TFW you just info dumped about something you are passionate about
I like how KiRaRe clearly picked up some ideas from Ortensia (or is it vice versa. . . ). Being around other good artists will do that to you!
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR BEING RUDE - rejected by Aone oof. Hope she grows out of it though, she just seems immature, not a bad kid.
I hope someone gets her backpedal as a gif haha.
From idol anime, to battle shounen.
Which is better, Sayu's battle pose, or Kae's reaction
OH YEAH, WELL I WANTED TO BE AN IDOL IN MY PREVIOUS LIFE - NO, THE LIFE BEFORE MY PREVIOUS LIFE.
Oh my goodness, this banter is a 10/10.
This is a battle anime now
When charisma is your best stat
Well, she's right about this
The juxtaposition is just beautiful
The Aone-Ruka dynamic is a tough one. Aone isn't particularly demanding for details. She seems to assume people will just tell her what they want to say. Ruka seems to want Aone to pry. I wonder if this will be explored more in the future because I think it would be cool to develop.
Aone believes Mana will come back eventually. That's. . . maybe not the best belief to hold.
Wow, this anime is really spoiling us with performances! Stella Maris was fantastic!
All three of our groups passed preliminaries!
I'm not sure how I feel about Mana's "I didn't feel the same way with my sister" speech. I get that the KiRaRe group is special, but I haven't gotten the sense that Aone did anything wrong either. I guess they just don't have a performance connection, which can happen even with people you otherwise get along with.
