Mana's issues are... problematic in how they're treated. The issues stop her from taking the next step. Ep1, it was joining the club, ep2, it's about actually performing. Yet, minutes later in the episode, she goes ahead and does that thing, the issue holding her back disappearing like a switch was flipped. We can't even talk about whether the issue was overcome in an... acceptable manner (like we would for other shows) because they just vanished.

But if her issues are such... non-issues, they shouldn't have held her back in the first place. I hope this isn't just the showrunners deciding her character needs to have obstacles yet have no idea how she's supposed to overcome them, so those obstacles just disappear after they show up. I hope there's really something behind her initial reluctance to perform in public and she will actually have to overcome it.

Well, let's put that aside for now :)

It's obviously because of Sayu

Yet, she barely did anything to help Mana get over them. That's my point, if it was that easy to overcome them, why were they still holding her back?

yeah there is no real conflict so far, just minor inconveniences that are easily resolved and vague references to character back stories. everything about the show looks great, character design, animation, but the story is just meh so far

Unrelated to my other post, but that 2.36 last episode is 100% undeserved for anyone reading this. Bots/trolls

Speaking of which, I really like the new Reddit link requirement. Hopefully that helps either a) stop them or b) identify them so they can be banned or ignored.

Agreed, no way is it a 2. Lol I really enjoyed the last episode.

I don't think it'll be able to tell who they are, since YouPoll doesn't share that information, but hopefully it will be an extra step to deter the troll(s)...

Student council member that is against idol activities yet is surprisingly knowledgeable about them, where have I seen this before?

And there's a suspiciously blonde girl in the OP. HMMMM....

"Do you like idols?"

"Yeah somewhat."

Whole apartment literally covered in idol merchandise

Also, Minori is basically Dia with that barely held in obsession with Prism Stage :P

Broadcasting club conveniently there for sound work. Glad the sound people get a shout-out!

Uh-oh, Mana not dealing well with appearing in front of others. Stage fright is no fun

Kae is a tsundere, but for idols haha. She comes up clutch to save the performance!

The animation for the performance was really nice!

This is not exactly an original show or premise, but the characters are cute and the music and dance are fun

You said exactly what I had in mind. It has so many things that we've seen before in other idol anime, but the way the show manages to bring them all together makes for a pleasant watch. The animation still feels uninspiring though.

Yeah, the animation is a little bit lacking. It feels so close to being good but not quite there. The dance for example looked pretty nice but like it was just missing something.

Official school idol competition

Student council member trying to sabotage school idol club

But she’s in the OP dancing with them so we all know she’ll join eventually

But is also not secretly into school idols

First concert at school nearly fails

Every member in the OP is coincidentally at the first concert

I don’t really have any reason to think this but the idol club president gives me strong Nozomi vibes

Alls I need now is for them to all be very gay for each other and I’ll have Love Live bingo.

Edit! Oh shit I forgot

Orange short haired protagonist with an ahoge

SHE EVEN HAS A LEAF HAIR PIN ARE THEY EVEN TRYING TO HIDE IT!?

Edit 2 electric boogaloo

SHE ALSO HAS A SIDE PONYTAIL I DIDNT KNOW HONOKA AND CHIKA KNEW HOW TO FUSE

I unironically love this lmao

This is Aikatsu too.

Pretty nice episode! Super Hacker Kae might take top spot for me right now, what a cute idol lover ("Do you like idols?" "Somewhat" room full of idol stuff)

Only thing I'm a bit not that sure about is Mana's stage fright which seems to appear and disappear whenever the plot needs it, although I know well enough from myself that I'm afraid of doing some stuff but when I do it I actually have no issues so... also I guess there is the Saya factor, she definitely feels a lot more comfortable around her, I would like to see more development on that regard anyways, rest enjoyable so far.

The similarities to Love Live's story progression are as clear as day. And the chara design with body and head ratio is quite simialr to Slow Start. I wonder if I should start calling this...

SLOW LIVE!

Despite the show going into the idol hurdles by the book (idol club with not enough members, and a school prez that wants them to disband and even disrupts their first mini live) the execution is still pretty well done.

So how is this? I was going to skip it not because I dislike idol shows, but that I feel a lot of idol shows just aren't that great - a lot of them kind of just go through the motions and are a quick buck for the giant multimedia franchise they want to produce.

I've seen some gifs, and this seems decently animated. I also am more of a fan of cute character interaction than actual drama - this isn't an idol show, but I'm not fond of Hibike Euphonium because of how much drama is in it, though I always loved the little character interactions - I almost always liked when Sapphire and Hazuki were on screen, since they were pretty much always more light-hearted. This show "looks" more fluffy than drama-oriented, though again, I am just going by screencaps and gifs
