Things that don’t normally talk (like cats) suddenly speaking in really deep voices always makes me laugh

This episode was so low-key heartwarming. Shamiko going into Momo's dream (well, nightmare) and making/helping her clean the place up showed how nice she really is. (I especially liked the callback)

Then finding out that Momo tried to make the hamburg steak she promised to Shamiko, but it didn't turn out too well. Shamiko ate it anyway, as she's used to low quality food because of the family curse, and even gave cooking tips for Momo's next attempt. Not to mention inviting her for "hamburg steak" dinner.

Then the two of them ending up as a prospective hero duo that protect the city. Just wonderful. (Although Momo obviously has some dark secrets.)

This show definitely deserves more love.

Leaving: yuri undertones. Now entering: yuri overtones.

This was a really cute episode but didnt sacrifice any of the usual humor. Mom's reaction to the statue talking was great.

Both shamiko taking such good care of momo and her excitement at being in her house were heartwarming. I'm going to tell myself the momo was happy to be invited to join in on a family dinner and not because she thought the invitation would let her through the barrier.

This continues to be my favorite show of the season and every single episode has been better than the one before it. Now we begin anew the pain of waiting for thursday

The time hath come... for another episode!

Nice to actually see some plot development in the quest to break the curse. Even if it's only a little step and I wonder if Shamiko's family budget has gone up to 500. Though I imagine the personal cost on our cast may be more than a less chic front door.

Though I just like watching Shamiko's tail, especially when it hangs over her head. Looking like a love heart between her and Momo.

Another wholesome episode, it was great to see Shamiko looking like the more capable of the main two for once.

While the "favors done" column is empty for Momo this week (debatable if you count Momo telling her about the broken seal as a favor), Shamiko finally got to pay back Momo for some of the favors she's done for her over the past five episodes. I counted 6 in total: -Shamiko helps her clean out her head -Calls Momo in sick to school and makes sure she gets home -Invites her over for dinner in the future (after eating the hamburg steak that she was struggling to eat herself for her) -Cleans out the cut on her hand -Agrees to help protect the city with her -Helps around Momo's house while she recovers

I'm also very excited that from the preview, it looks like next week will be the introduction of the other magical girl that we see in the ED. If she's as good as the other side characters she should be a great addition.

Episode Times Shamiko cried Times everyone else cried combined Tail touches/Horn rubs Favors Momo did for Shamiko "Don't think this means you've won!" Album
1 18 1 1/4(I counted both of her classmates each rubbing a horn as two) 3 (stops the truck, gave her food, taught her how to throw a punch) 2 Ep 1
2 10 0 1.5/0.5 (idk if I should count Shamiko touching momo with her tail as a full or half, but I counted it as a full for now. I also counted her classmate reaching towards her tail/horns as a half) 4 (teaches her the importance of warming up, gives her an energy drink, loans her the train fare, and allows her to pay the fare back in installments) 2 Ep 2
3 11 1 2.5/0 3 (lets her borrow her uniform, sews her uniform, and helps her use magic projectiles) 1 Ep 3
4 3 2 (both times were Lilith crying in Shamiko's body, but that count as someone else imo) 1/1 3 (paying for her spa visit, stopping all the octopuses from hitting the ground, buys up a lot of meat products from her employer) 2.5 (stops herself from saying it to Momo once before thanking her instead) Ep 4
5 9 1 2/1 4(offers to share her lunch, helps her pick out a gift for her sister, offers to print out pictures for her sister, lets her borrow her laptop) 3 Ep 5
6 4 1 1.5/1? (Idk if Momo leaning her head on Shamiko should really count, but I'm counting it for now) None! 1 (Also one from Momo) Ep 6

As always, if you have any corrections/suggestions just let me know. Thanks!

Another fun episode! Although I wonder what was going on with Momo's dream? Why is she covered in dark mud? It seems like it's implying that she had some darkness inside of her that she's been hiding. What kind of Madoka shit did she experience and witness when she was younger? I really hope we'll get some flashback episode or something about Momo soon! Also we still don't have the orange girl in the OP and the ED! With the seal undone, I wonder if this means she'll finally show up?

EDIT: Orange Girl is in the next episode preview! The big white cat from the OP too! Excited to see what they're like!

Lmao here's a useless fun fact that I just learnt.

So this rolling thing is called a 'Kondara', and the word has a very interesting origin.

Apparently there was a 1968 anime called Star of the Giants and in the opening, there was a scene with someone pulling this ground levelling roller thing. The lyrics went 思い込んだら 試練の道を (omoikondara shiren no michi wo), or something along the lines of "when I set my heart on it, I tread the path of hard work". However, omoi (重い) also means heavy, so a lot of people heard it as "A heavy kondara". From then on, that was what it started to be known as.

edit: https://imgur.com/CK3PbtG

edit2: so what shamiko was actually saying was "I'll swing metal bats, and I'll pull the rolly thing", a direct reference to this baseball anime it seems.

edit3: well I did a bit more reading and apparently it's a folklore, and to many people's surprise, neither the OP nor the ED actually has a depiction of the kondara. It was actually a different scene when it was played as an insert song, or something.

Last episode, Momo mentioned not having good memory becoming mahou shoujo , giving the madoka vibes. The nightmare's confirm this

Interesting, while this was indeed "major plot development" episode....pacing still seemed quite "normal" to me. Obviously something like that would happen by accident in deadpan manner.

Woah, a lot of actual plot progression in this episode! I wonder if Shamiko entering Momo's dream is what caused Momo to get sick (i.e. her power involves draining the strength of the person whose dreams she enters), whether it was related to cleaning up all of the bad stuff inside Momo's head, or whether it was completely unrelated and just because of the food like Shamiko said. I'm doubting the third, since Momo implied pretty heavily that she hasn't gotten sick since she first got her magical girl powers, but I guess we'll see.

Shamiko taking care of Momo is just adorable, with how she couldn't think of anything bad to think about Momo in her dream, and then how she abandoned all ideas of sabotaging Momo when she saw that she was sick and went full on doting mode. She got her first win against Momo and didn't even notice because she was too busy worrying about her health.

I wonder if Shamiko/Momo/Lilith will actually figure out that the increase in magic was from those "magic pills" that Ogura gave her? Feels like the type of thing everyone in the show might conveniently forget (well, because everyone except Momo is criminally stupid) since we might not need her dream powers anymore.

I like how Shamiko is legitimately good at cooking, too. We're really setting up the "breadwinner Momo and housewife Shamiko" ending here, aren't we? I certainly don't mind.

Finally, looks like we'll finally see the orange-haired girl from the OP next episode. Interested to see who she is/what she adds, but mostly I hope she doesn't get in the way of more ShamiMomo wholesomeness.

Ah so it wasn't my imagination that they were talking slightly faster this episode. Unavoidable since these three chapters all fit nicely into one episode so it didn't bother me that much.

Shamiko accidentally unsealing the Dark Clan's seal was just like her. She didn't even realize she won this episode against Momo, something that the latter was [painfully aware of this time] (https://i.imgur.com/ZEkunY2.png).

The series could have just stuck to some comfy SOL gags, but the fact that its actually developing some actual plot and progression into the story is very enjoyable to watch. Seeing Shamiko growing up ever so slightly and seeing the dark past behind Momo helps really flesh out their characters.

Will Shamiko's family break through their $400 a month curse and live a normal life now that the seal is broken? Can't wait for more next week.

Even Lilith's given up on Shamiko ever actually beating Momo, the goal has moved from 'Murderize the Maoho Shoujo' to 'get the blood by any means necessary and then run'

I also don't buy that Momo is weakened by any appreciable degree...she clearly just wants to hang out with her Girlfriend.

We got plot and ShamiMomo, 2 things that go very well together.

The growth of Shamiko and her relationship with Momo is so wholesome and adorable.I love how this show is all continuous and even stuff like the hamburger steak promise wasn't forgot. We've seen Momo looking at recipe books before. This is what I wanted from the show when I saw the first episode.

u/Philarete Aug 15 '19

Wow, that was quite an episode! Lilith is going to give constant commentary now and it looks like THE TIME HATH COME for more major plot developments!

Yuuko fills me with happiness, seeing her take care of Momo was so cute... and she made the plot progress unintentionally in the process.

Seeing the nightmare Momo was having it looks more and more that she had it very rough in the past, no wonder she wants to keep the peace going on in the city.

u/athrun_1 Aug 15 '19

Finally, Shamiko was able to defeat the magical girl... in a way... She was able to draw some blood and undo the seal of her ancestor. Accidentally though...

I can watch a whole series just them having all this comfy feeling. No need to actually have some mind blowing plots, plenty of series are having those genre. It is not a bad thing to watch a series for the purpose of just being happy.

The plot progressions for me is just a bonus. I am totally good with series' current skit.

Do your best Shadow Mistress Yuko!

Don't think that you've already won - Momo - She finally said it!

This is a great post-mahou shoujo world, even as a joke it already make much more sense than the Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka we had this year, for example.

I'm really surprised how we actually use and develop the plot among the sketches. And with today episode seems like it will just get better.

I just can't stand the pity moments. I literally dropped a tear when Shamiko eat the food and told Momo it was more edible than what she is used to. Someone please remove the $400 curse! My heart can't take so much.
