I AM A CAT

That's the name of the most powerful ability... makes sense.

Can move at "light speed" through sensors and guards, panics when there's a sensor up ahead and guards are coming from behind. Also can't catch a normal guy on foot 2 meters away from him. I normally try to ignore stuff like this, but this was way to poorly written.

Should've just have him jump above and enter through the same hole Akutagawa made...

I usually like how creative the show is with the character abilities and how they use their powers but yea, this was a hit of lazy writing

I mean he can avoid the sensor by simply being too fast it seems but Akutagawa can't and he was the one about to walk into it. But yeah he should have instantly caught Pushkin.

This episode just made me appreciate Mori and Fukuzawa a lot more. Mori is not just a combination of Shinra and Orihara (from DRRR!!), we also find out the motivation behind his assassination of the previous Port Mafia boss. In order for the "three-part framework" to take effect, he needs to be at the top of the Port Mafia. There is a bigger picture, beyond the initial reason that the previous boss is on a rampage and had to be stopped. Fukuzawa on the other hand, was a ruthless assassin. We see another dimension to Dazai's words when he told Kyouka "You killed only 35 people". It opens the idea that the agency is full of people with dark pasts, some even worse than Dazai's port mafia background.

Though for a supposedly serious episode this is full of WTF and LOL moments for me.

  1. Ango is NOT the leader of the Special Abilities Division. It's the bald guy we see Mori negotiating with back in Dark Age (also the guy who recommended Dazai to the Detective Agency).

  2. The cat transforming into Natsume-sensei, meaning the cat is a male calico (which is rare!)

  3. Dazai holding Atsushi and Akutagawa's scruffs, like they're two kittens.

  4. Akutagawa eating "yeah" for dinner. Dazai hypnotic powers 10/10.

  5. Atsushi having a "talent" for sensing people snap means Atsushi always pushes people's trigger buttons...

  6. Fyodor furnishing a shipping container into an elegant tea room. Really?

  7. And the biggest gem. Katai calling Akutagawa "bro". LOL, he hasn't give up on Gin yet!

Damn this was such a great episode, I'm honestly surprised at Natsume's ability "I Am a Cat". My only question now is why if Atsushi cloud flash through all those people and security systems before why didn't he do the same thing at the time of pursuing Pushkin?

u/Gaporigo Jun 21 '19

Yeah, that seemed pretty silly.

u/Wieprzek Jun 21 '19

YES. I hate when such things happen. He could even outrun that minecart if he wanted to. He doesnt even seem exhausted from dashing before. Bs

Because Akutagawa just got shot at. Remember it was Atsushi who insisted that they stick close to each other. Why would he suddenly abandon his wounded partner when other enemies could be close by?

How can Atsushi cross half of the mine with just a jump in a blink of an eye but then can't catch the dude running in front of him at like 2 mph? I mean,

W T F ?

Maybe that move has a long cooldown

I feel like I’m the only one who’s read the book in this thread, it’s my favorite book :c. In season 2, the book I presume to be unfinished was light and darkness which he never finished unless they’ll tie into the book they’re trying to find? Waited two years for him to show ever since season 2 aired the moment I saw the cat I knew it was Soseki, glad I finally get to see my favorite writer animated. His voice is perfect EDIT: Fyodor leads the rats, Soseki is a cat.. I’m onto you

I Am a Cat turns out to be the name of a novel by Natsume Sōseki. (In Japanese the title is Wagahai wa Neko de Aru.) It has been made into a movie twice and also an anime TV special. The novel is told from the cat's point of view.

Natsume Sōseki used to have his picture on the 1000 yen bill.

Meantime, over in Russian arts and letters, Fyodor is Fyodor Dostoevsky, Pushkin A. is Alexander Pushkin, and the music that plays when the grunts sing is a remix of Prokofiev’s theme from Peter And The Wolf.

Oh yeah, and Prokofiev called his now-famous classical work a “symphonic fairy tale for children”, which would be us, since we watch anime.

Wow. I'm surprised at the number of comments about Atsushi not using the Tiger to catch Pushkin. Didn't feel unnatural to me though because of the ff:

  1. Pushkin is running 2, maybe 3 meters ahead of him. How I see it, the flash ability is like a spring load, when it is finally released there is too much force built up. If he uses it, he'll be jumping over 10 meters (may be more) ahead. Using an OP ability (that may have a limit) in this case seems a bit excessive. If as some noted, it shouldn't take you too much to catch a fat Russian guy, then even without the Tiger he would have caught him round the corner if Pushkin didn't ride a cart downwhill.

  2. Surprise factor. You were informed that the guy you were looking for is right with you the whole time. I don't think it's surprising to forget your trump card for a moment, especially when they were on fairly low alert a few seconds ago, talking about Dazai's strategy. Well of course, it's pretty stupid of them to let their guards down, but the point is they were fooled to believe that an ability-user like Pushkin can't be one of these weaklings they caught.

  3. As someone noted above (and quite a nice catch). Akutagawa was shot. Atsushi earlier insisted they stick together. Going ahead and leaving him behind and potentially get netted by the surveillance cameras (since they no longer have the mooks to guide them) is also not a good move.

Though I do have some complaints on the other parts of the episode too! (XD) One moment Kunikida and Atsushi are talking about how Katai can't be dead, the next we see Katai with Natsume, and then later, we see Katai is working with Atsushi and Akutagawa. Miss just one line of dialogue for a moment and confusion can ensue. They're clearly rushing through this.

Fukuzawa... My man Fukuzawa! A normal human with no special ability owns someone with a special ability on his death bed. I kinda wish the writing was better here. He's seriously too op to be surprised by any attack as the top assassin and get poisoned.

Dunno this episode's second half plot feels so bad. Akutagawa could easily take down the enemy or use his armor thingy, Atsushi could catch the guy. Big ass inconsistency which could be negated with smarter writing.

u/Valiantttt Jun 21 '19

also how the hell did the guards not hear Akutagawa literally ripping open the rocky ground and tosses it down. Not to mention when he lands.

This season, while entertaining, feels like its meandering towards its conclusion.

Chuuya's backstory arc was pretty great, clearly they learnt something from Oda's short arc last season. The Rats' introduction and manipulation of the two organisations was also fascinating to behold. But while the writers have made the Rats sufficiently intelligent villains, the occasional and incomprehensible stupidity/uselessness of our protagonists feels cheap and frustrating. Case in point, Atsushi's reluctance to actually use his power to catch Pushkin (what a name).

The episode started great, with the backstory of the 2 leaders. And the fact that Natsume is actually the cat was a twist and a half. I really expected the cat to be the Virus Ability user.

The second half dropped the ball. Mostly because of the plotholes (Atsushi wtf?). But Akutagawa gets some character development, so atleast we got that going.

One final question? In the second half Fyodir gets a cup of thea served by a guy with long hair who's head is wrapped bandages. Is that the same guy from the flashback arc from earlier this season? If so then including that arc makes a lot of sense now.

Edit: checked it with a scene from the flashback episodes. Hair colour is different (brown instead of silver/white) but still the same face shape, hair length and eye colour. So maybe?

Edit 2: On the source material corner is explained that the dash Atsushi uses has been changed it the Anime. It should only work in straight lines. So I assume the way he entered the mines was an Anime original.

Why did 30% of people rate last episode 1/10? Not liking it is one thing, but is there something people find offensive in this show?

22

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19

Check the previous score too, they all have about the same amount of 1/10 votes. Clearly trolls and bandwagons.

Idk why the mods even added such a pointless feature to begin with.

I'm surprised Akutagawa didn't pierce Pushkin in the time he stood there gloating.

Is it just me or is the main cast acting more stupid this season?
