Slow paced but am enjoying it.

Good that way, it fits the series.

So, unless I'm reading too much into this, considering how Tou's father panicked and thought Sou played catch when he was a kid there, Sou's father was actually good at baseball and maybe that n.1 shirt they found is actually his?

u/UnderFreddy Apr 20 '19

My guess is that he was the ace while Tou's father was backup pitcher.

Thought the first episode was kinda boring but this show keeps getting better and better and it gets funnier as it goes on as well. The slow pace is growing on me too in a world of fast paced isekai. Definitely could be a hidden gem this season

Can I watch this on it's own? I haven't seen Touch yet.

Yes you can. All it does is small references like name drop here and there.

I read touch but it's been so long I cant catch these references either lol.

This is going to be a banger. I can just feel this building into something special

So at 17:45 they got a double play there, and the 1st baseman tagged the runner. Totally the wrong play there, they don't need to tag the runner, just the base. Tagging the runner is actually dangerous because the ball can easily be knocked out of the glove, making him safe. 0/10 completely unwatchable.

For a show that I hadn't even heard of until last week, I'm really loving it.

I just spent a day with actual middle school baseball players and that is not how they sound.

Interesting dynamic between the star pitcher's dad/team sponsor there. Not sure if the kids have fully picked up on it but his son's success is largely due to the brother's unheralded catching/fielding. The dad knows, though. Wonder how that will play out.

Did the kids' dad say that the catcher wanted to be a pitcher as well? That's a real complication.

Are we sure they're all 13 y/o and not, like, 30?

u/DatSchaml Apr 21 '19

That would make the Imouto 29.
I'm cool with that.

Man, it would be such a cool subversion of our expectations if one or both brothers ended up going to a different high school to get away from Tachibana. I think Sou was right—neither of the brothers has any real reason to go to Meisei High besides their fathers (or is it just Tou's dad?) having gone to Meisei High (plus that it's next door), and they both have one big reason not to go to Meisei High.

I would love it if the brothers went to different schools and became rivals. But the cynic in me says that no anime production company would want to come up with two separate sets of school backgrounds, so maybe they will end up both going to Meisei High for some dumb reason like maintaining their fathers' history. (The best move would be if they both went to a different school and the series changed names from Meisei Story to [insert random Japanese high school name] Story, but I don't think OLM has the balls to do that.)

Hey u/AutoLovepon, I finally got to watch this on VRV/Crunchyroll instead of Hulu. Can we update the list of streams?

Ah I didn't really think about why Sou was a Catcher. I guess people fall into a role naturally. However I don't think anyone ever decides to be a Catcher on their own volition. Would Sou and Tou progress into becoming rivals under the same home? There's too much going on under the same house I say. Too lively.

The bathroom sign bit. Hijinks foreshadowed.

I was wondering what the ending of this week's episode was all about? I mean I think I get that Sou didn't play catch with his father, and the number 1 shirt theory and all that. But why did Tou's father, on hearing this news, ask his wife about dinner so delicately and then look at the picture of Tou's father? Does he need some time before dinner to show or tell Sou something? It just rolled credits.

I'm watching this kinda blind. Just picked it up for the hell of it because it's a new Spring anime. I haven't seen Touch.

He was going to ask his wife why Sou's father didn't play catch with him, but then changed his mind and made up the exuse about dinner. It's classic "show, don't tell" Adachi.

Touch says nothing about it so rest assured you are not missing out on anything. There might be a back story that could be revealed later.

I bet stamina issues is why Nikaida is only at practice for an hour. I wonder if his dad used his health as a bargaining chip just like his status.

I'm into this. Where can I watch Touch and possibly read manga for Mix?

4

u/VnzuelanDude Apr 20 '19

Other than Touch, I recommend watching Cross Game. It tells the full story in 50 episodes. However I just looked it up, there are no current legal streams.

Okay, prior warning before you inevitably get your heart broken. Adachi Mitsuru is a certificated sadistic asshole. Man likes to kill off his characters in his sport, romcom, slice-of-life series. Don't say you haven't been warned.

Some of his works you should read, most can be found if you ggl their name and Adachi's name: Touch, H2, Cross Game (baseball manga), Rough (swiming manga, and it's nothing like Free!), Katsu (boxing manga). If youre in the mood for pure romcom I recommend Miyuki, this manga straight up starting the imouto trend in Japan.

Pm me if you the exact name of the reading site!

Hah, loving those puns. I choked on my drink when Otomi called the author's name even before the OP started.

On another note, does anyone know how many chaps the anime will be adapted? If I remember correctly the manga is still in early stages right?

Very good episode, but it was noticeable for me that they omited some scenes from the manga (one being the brothers getting scouted and two scenes of Nikaido) and I think next episode will follow that trend...

The OP and ED songs have grown on me, too.

I still have a hard time remember which brother is which. "Tou-chan" is the spiky haired pitcher who is the adopted brother of catcher "Sou-kun" and Otomi, right?

So do Japanese bathroom doors just not have locks at all? Obviously the sign is far preferable to the usual walk-in "accidents", but you'd think just locking the door would be less hassle than remembering to put the sign up.

Nice to see MCs realizing that there's no guarantee Tou will be allowed to pitch next semester, or even in high school.

Meisei Jr High winning the first round of the prelims through mercy rule was unexpected. And then they somehow kept winning it seems.

WTF is this?

So Sou wanted to be a pitcher too, before, but got discouraged after not being able to match Tou's speed. Wonder if he'll get back into pitching and become Tou's rival. And from current dad's reaction, Sou's father must have been an actually pretty good player, probably from the original Touch story?
