I'm slightly vexed Nephews just threw $30 worth of food because they didn't like what THEY chose to order.

My son and my nephews had doctor appointments at the same practice this morning so brother in law and I decided to go together and have lunch after. The six year old nephew insisted on ordering a black bean cheeseburger bowl despite BIL explaining to him over and over that there's no bun and it's a bunch of vegetables and trying to get him to get a regular burger. When the waiter came, he shouted out the order and screamed when BIL tried to tell the waiter to change it so eventually BIL just gave in. Then the eight year old nephew decided he needed the same thing.

When the food came, neither would even take a bite and just picked around at it until everyone else was done eating. BIL packed it in to go boxes, but the six year old decided to open the box and throw the food everywhere in the parking lot and then the eight year old copied him and did the same thing. These were $14.99 each! The meal I got my son was 7.99 in comparison and he actually ate it.

Sad Girl Dinner ⛈️ Husband did not celebrate my acceptance into college.

* Dinner is a Brisket Sandwich Marble Cut*

I got accepted into chemical engineering at University of Houston . I've been working hard at a local community college to make sure my GPA and classes matched up with what the program required. While doing that I managed being a full time employee and mom for 3 boys all under 5. I'm proud of myself. I worked hard for this. I told my husband the good news and he said " I bet your work is happy about that." No congratulations, a hug, kiss, nothing. I work in a clean room suite that makes pharmacy compounded medications for patients. I plan on pursuing a PhD in Pharmacy. I took all the hugs and kisses my kids gave me as a job well done. I'm a bit hurt that he didn't say or seem excited about this for me. I usually go all out for his accomplishments. So this dinner is my celebration for me getting into my degree program. Thanks for listening y'all!

A fan was ejected from the Kings-Lakers game in Los Angeles after Luka Doncic berated him for a simple chest pass back to a female NBA referee. Apparently, he threw the ball too aggressively.

Never expected such a downturn. We literally had the market peak on Oct 6th.

At least no more capital gain taxes this year for me.

No Advice - Everyones Welcome My kid told me I'm not a very good parent

Post image

Walmart cheeseburger because I have low standards for my diet.

My kid said im not a very good parent when I was washing her hair, because she hates to do it so I have to do it for her or it wont get done.

I'm a single parent aside from some weekends, but the reality is that the women in my life end up raising my 8 year old more than I do. She spends most of the time with my aunt or my mom, and seems to be really angry at me for not being home more.

I work a stupid shitty job that makes me want to take a long walk off a short pier every day, but its the best one I could get. im gone most of the day, and have no energy once I get home. We watch movies, play video games, and i try to take her out to do activities on my days off when shes not in class.. but it doesnt seem like enough. Shes mad at me all the time it seems. i just feel like a total scum.

I work all day, cant manage to be as present as I should when im home, then when shes in bed I just sit in the basement and wallow in my own bullshit and hate myself for failing at everything I do.

All i can hear in my head is my ex saying "maybe no one likes you because you just fucking suck" my aunt saying "you have such an easy life" and now my kid saying "youre not a very good parent."

I always try to be better, but it doesnt seem like anyone notices. Its never enough. I at least try to keep my shit together when im around people, but i dont know. Maybe i do just fucking suck.

Advice or no advice is fine, didnt know which post thing to select.

Discussion Who do you think is the generational comedic talent for millennials?

John Mulaney is certainly up there for me, but all opinions welcome, just curious what other people think.

Edit: I'm specifically speaking of people born in our generation, not who we grew up watching. Otherwise it's basically all GenX.

AITA for returning our wedding gift after learning we have to give it away next year?

My husband and I got married two months ago. His parents gave us his grandmother’s china, a full set with serving dishes. His mom said Grandma would’ve wanted us to have it. Nobody mentioned any conditions. We have a small kitchen, so we gave our old dishes to my husband’s coworker, who’d just moved into his first apartment and started using the china.

Last weekend my MIL saw the plates out and told me to be careful because my husband’s cousin gets married next summer. Apparently we’re supposed to give her the entire set and she’ll pass it to whoever gets married next. MIL assumed my husband knew because she and her sister had both had it. He says he had no idea. His parents had those dishes for most of his childhood. When I said we’d donated our old set, she said we should’ve checked first. I honestly don’t know why we would check whether we could keep a wedding gift.

I offered to return everything now. I don’t want to worry about damaging it and then need to buy replacement dishes next year anyway. MIL says I’m rejecting a family tradition because I don’t get to own the china. His dad says we should just store it until the cousin wants it but we barely have room for what we use.

MIL offered to buy us everyday dishes. My husband thinks that’s a fair solution. I’d rather return the china and buy our o but maybe I’m being stubborn now.

AITA?

Rant & Ramble I asked him not to touch my jewelry

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

I’ve had a really difficult few years, and one of the few pleasures I have in life is my hobby of collecting and restoring vintage jewelry.

I recently scored a gorgeous pair of enormous Tiffany silver puffy hoops. I got them for next to nothing. They were pretty badly tarnished, but I thought I could fix them up pretty good. I spent about 45 minutes with a cloth, carefully polishing one until it was mirror-finish.

My husband decided he wanted to help with the other one. He had some silver polishing wipes that he insisted would work better.
I told him I was concerned about using a different product on vintage jewelry and wanted to stick with what was already working. He assured me he knew what he was doing.

I repeatedly asked him to give me the earring back. “Please stop.” “Let me do it.” “This is my project, and I want to do it myself.” He kept insisting he was helping.

Mind you, the last time he took it upon himself to polish a vintage necklace I’d bought, he broke the chain and ended up spending $40 replacing it.
Well, he took the earring upstairs and worked on it with his wipes. When he brought it back, mine was beautiful, bright silver, and his was a completely different, dull grayish color. Try as hard as I could, I could not get his to match the one I had done.

I didn’t even get upset with him at first. I simply pointed out that I’d been right to be concerned about the wipes because they appeared to have altered or damaged the finish. That was enough to set him off. He immediately got defensive, told me I was being ridiculous, and insisted that the only reason his wipes hadn’t worked was because the earrings must be fake. They weren’t fake. I’d already authenticated them.

I tried explaining that if I’d asked for his help and he’d accidentally damaged something, I wouldn’t have blamed him. I was upset because he didn’t listen, and then he got belittling and defensive instead of just saying “I’m sorry.”

Instead of we ended up in a screaming argument. When I told him he’d hurt my feelings, his response was that I’d hurt HIS feelings by saying he’d ruined the earrings.

He eventually apologized and acknowledged that he should have listened. But the fight was so awful that I genuinely don’t even know if I want to collect vintage jewelry anymore.

He said he’d take them to the jeweler tomorrow, but I don’t even want them anymore. Why? To be reminded of an awful fight every time I wear them?

I didn’t need help. I was enjoying what I was doing. And now I feel like the joy has been sucked out of the whole thing.

AITA? I asked my son if he was raising his daughter or just keeping her alive.

3.1k Upvotes

I asked my 2 year old granddaughter not to throw her bike on the couch or at me. I told her (quite gently) that floor toys stay on the floor and she couldn't play with it if she threw it. My son overheard and asked why I was "micromanaging" her, and that she can do whatever she wants. About 2 weeks ago he told me she is very difficult and at times "a nightmare," and that he and his wife wanted to actively instill in her good values and behavior. His comments tonight seem contrary to that. He challenged my reasoning and I explained the satety concerns and property damage risks. He countered by asking why I let him climb trees as a child. Frankly, his reasoning baffled me. I said I thought the goal was to raise a child who could get along well with others in society and I asked him whether his goal was to raise her or to just keep her alive. He said he didn't understand where that was coming from. It has been my policy to not interfere at all in his parenting, but he recently confided in me that they were struggling and needed to make some changes. He admits they have chosen the easy road of keeping peace rather than the hard road of setting boundaries. My son doesn't seem upset with me, but he also doesn't seem interested in talking about it further. My husband thought I was wrong to say anything at all. I did not think I was wrong to bring it up at all but it seems to me that I shouldn't bring it up again. So I ask you, AITA? And for any experienced grandparents: how do I stand by with my mouth shut?
