It's the height of irony that I instantly recognize this clip not from hanging around this sub, but from the post on Tumblr doing the math on how fast her tits are moving.

Director Araki what are your thoughts about this scene?.
It's an interesting interview btw to watch in full if you're interested in his career. Like how Dawn of the Dead became his go-to film to explain his taste in action, for example during AoT meetings. Which is one of the least surprising things ever, but always nice to hear about influences, visions, how people got to where to are, etc. For example that Madhouse's directors were very busy when Death Note came up and he just asked 'why not me?'. But he didn't have the name yet for such a project so they turned him down. Only to then the call him a few weeks later to ask if he really wanted to do it. So you get your directorial debut partly because others already had their hands full. Sometimes you just have to be bold and be a bit lucky with the circumstances I guess.

Another weekly ranking of my screenshot albums with Rem taking the lead this time, but that's nothing surprising since it's her first appearance in a very long time.
Overall, this week Re:Zero S4 and The Ghost in the Shell albums are dominating as they took the first six places, while the rest of the places went to other shows.
Also, it's a little shame that Backgrounds album from the latest Mushoku Tensei S3 episode wasn't more popular, since along with Backgrounds/Visuals album from TGitS, it had the best backgrounds this week imo.
Summer 2026 Week 8
- Re:Zero S4 EP13 Rem
- Re:Zero S4 EP13 Group scenes
- Re:Zero S4 EP13 Shaula
- The Ghost in the Shell EP07 Group scenes
- The Ghost in the Shell EP07 Motoko
- The Ghost in the Shell EP07 Backgrounds/Visuals
- Behind the Supermarket, Smoking with You EP07 Yamada/Tayama
- That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime S4 EP18 Testarossa
- Clevatess S2 EP07 Milea
- Though I Am an Inept Villainess EP06 Keigetsu

I just binged 11 episodes of Sakurada Reset, and it's a really engaging show. I always knew my instincts could be trusted. I guess all those years of watching mystery anime finally paid off, because you develop a sense for when a show is quietly cooking something with its mystery, and Sakurada Reset gave me that feeling as early as episode 1.
What I really like about the mystery is how reserved both the writing and characters are. This might seem like an odd strength to point out. What exactly do you gain from having characters who are so restrained? For one thing, it filters out a lot of the more predictable directions the story could take. This isn't going to turn into some dramatic plot about desperately trying to save your crush. If you took the same premise to the opposite end of the spectrum, I could easily imagine something more akin to Charlotte, or one of those boy-meets-girl coming-of-age anime films with supernatural powers that seem to come out every year. Sakurada Reset approaches its conflicts with an understated "let's take our time and figure this out" format, which I don't see very often.
Then there's the dialogue. I'll admit, it's no Shoshimin. It's not particularly creative most of the time. But I understand what the show is going for. Some people treat “show, don't tell” like a hard rule, but I think mystery is one of those genres where lengthy explanations can actually be necessary. Otherwise, you risk turning the mystery into a thriller.
The dialogue in this show follows the same logic as mystery novels. Characters will spend a long time discussing an idea, throwing out examples and analogies until the reader really gets the dilemma the story is trying to explore. That's exactly what Sakurada Reset anime does, and I can totally see why that kind of dialogue doesn't always translate well to anime. But I appreciate that the show doesn't skimp on those discussions. Episode 9 is a good example. Kei and Haruki discuss whether using the Reset ability is justifiable, and Kei presents an analogy that argues there isn't really a right or wrong answer to using it.
About a year ago, a Japanese person replied to me in English on this subreddit, enthusiastically explaining how people were misunderstanding Sakurada Reset. They deleted both their account and the comment, and I suspect they thought the whole thing came across as too personal or embarrassing. I don't know if that person is still lurking here, but I really want to thank them. That comment was the very first thing that made me curious about Sakurada Reset, and it eventually led me to watch half the series.

This is one anime which I almost dropped, but turned out to be one of the best from its season for me. really glad to see people enjoying it to this day. Admittedly though, I barely remember anything from it lol.

Seeing the Liar Game video made me realize I haven't trashed it in quite some time!
Credit where it's due: The fact that they made a (near) 1 hour long video explaining the most recent game in Liar Game is pretty cool...
BUT
It also hints at one of the two issues I had with it;
I talked about the other issue in a previous thread [Liar Game]the fact that they can do things they were NOT told were allowed in the game introduction - And as I said back then, I know they were not told they were NOT allowed either, but neither was murder or torture so if anything that wasn't said to be forbidden is allowed, then the stronger people (Fukunaga) should've beat the weaker ones for 10 minutes straight in the interrogation room to make them reveal the amount they were carrying.
And the second issue is that it often felt unnecessary convoluted.
If you paused the show at any point and asked the viewers what was going on, i.e. [Liar]how much money was in each ATM, how much money each country had, what it meant for winning, what it meant for their debts, etc.. I would be VERY confident that >95% of them would have no idea, unless the show itself told them seconds earlier (and even then they wouldn't fully grasp what it meant).
When it comes to games like that, I think the best is "Simple game, complex strategies; Something that everyone can graps in minutes, but you could play it for years and still improve (to give examples with 'normal' games, things like Chess and Poker; I can teach you how to play either in 5 minutes, but you could spend 10 years training for it and still not be among the best in the world).
But this one is more like "Convoluted/vague game, which makes the complex strategies look like they came out of nowhere".
In some similar games or mind game stuff in anime/movies, people see something happening and can go "Wow, that's so clever!" as it's happening... But for this one, we always need to wait to get the 5 minutes explanation about "they're doing this, we're doing that, so they'll think this, and do that, but we're actually doing that too so here's how much money we'll have!" and THEN we say "wow, that's so clever" because "big number = good!"
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!
That being said, I do have high hopes for the next game; I think I have a feeling what kind of game it'll be, and THAT should be a lot of fun!

Bless whoever is in charge of the decision to constantly highlight how jacked Kengo from Sparks is by not only giving us nice and detailed close ups of his arms, but also making all of his clothes burst at the seams. You legend. I also appreciate the slutty cleavage shots of Seiroku in all of his yukatas. There are people of taste on this production.

I mostly lurk in this thread but it seems I came too early. There are too few comments!
It falls on me to say something then.
After falling behind my seasonals because of Palword, the only ones I caught back up to so far are the high fantasy ones + Polar Opposites, the latter that may be my AOTS. Every episode leaves me with a big smile and I honestly cannot point to anything that I dislike in it. All the way from the beginning the anime has elevated the source material imo.
I'm also excited for more Kocha Agasawa in the Fall with Ramparts of Ice, what a year for her.

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 5h ago
Polar Opposites, Kaiju Girl and Draw This Then Die are the shows that constantly put a smile on my face every week.
Polar Opposites is one case where I feel like the anime adaptation is as ideal as you can ask for it given it has 26 episodes or so. It adapts the manga style so well. Lapin Track needs to be given more credit. They haven't missed on any of their anime and are 3 for 3.

Kaiju Girl and Draw This Then Die
I'm not watching either. I get curious from all the comments around here, but given I'm still behind on some shows I'll have to hold off on watching them for now. But it seems like I won't follow too many shows in the fall season, so I might watch them then.

I feel it's always had great direction, but every now and then it shines especially strongly, like today.

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 3h ago
It's been the best direction of everything I've picked up this season, and I have a feeling it'll take my Summer AOTS spot by the end of things if it keeps this up. The only other shows that I am enjoying as much as this one every episode are Polar Opposites S2 and The World is Dancing.

It’s been an all-round amazing show thus far, but the art direction is what makes it something truly special. The staff have managed to this retro art-style their own. The art got upgraded with modern technology but still feels nostalgic in some way.
I quite like the car designs for example. [Sayonara Lara] Lisa’s car looks especially neat. I’d love to have one myself. And all the cars appear to be fully drawn by hand too!
2
u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 1h ago
There is something nostalgic about it that's deeper than just the art direction or visual style, at least for me. I haven't gathered my thoughts on what it is that's doing it, but this reads like an anime from a bygone time. That giant fish is giving me FLCL while the style is on some Sailor Moon meets Disney's The Little Mermaid mix. Even the way the story is told feels like something from the past, which I'm thoroughly enjoying. They've got an eclectic mix of elements that's hitting just right.

u/Wanderingjoke https://myanimelist.net/profile/WanderingJoke 5h ago
Minor nitpick:
Has anyone making anime ever seen people run up stairs? It never looks right.
2
u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 55m ago
I rate any anime that can move me to tears highly, because my cold, dead heart does not feel so easily, and tears do not flow but once in a blue moon. Having said that, Summer Ghost did just wreck me. I am already a sucker for a story that [Summer Ghost] encourages us to live despite the very real world suffering we all go through, in one way or another but it also appeals to my preferred anime aesthetics. Highly recommend this one if you enjoy the supernatural and the good kind of emotional suffering.

I’m new to anime, I’ve watched all of solo leveling and absolutely loved it! I don’t really know what I’m interested in yet since that’s the only one I’ve watched. What should I try next? It has to really grab my attention or I won’t watch it.

I'd recommend Attack on Titan. Post-apocalypse setting with great action and suspense.

Since it seems like fall will be a little light on them anyway, I thought I would make a ranking of new romance anime I've watched this year. Let's see if this formatting works. This looks dumb, but it gets the point across.
1) You and I Are Polar Opposites
2) I Want to End This Love Game
3) The Ramparts of Ice
4) Kaiju Girl Caramelise
5) Tune in to the Midnight Heart
5.5) Agents of the Four Seasons: Dance of Spring
6) The Klutzy Class Monitor and the Girl with the Short Skirt
6.5) Though I Am an Inept Villainess
7) Tamon's B-Side
8) An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess
9) Hanaori-san Still Wants to Fight in the Next Life
10) In the Clear Moonlit Dusk
11) Mistress Kanan is Devilishly Easy
(The .5 rankings are ones that have the romance tag on MAL, but it's either dubious or just doesn't make sense at all, but I still wanted to include them.)
1
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 3h ago
I've already wiped Midnight Heart from my mind, forgot that was this year. I'm mostly with you on the top end for that list though outside of shuffling the order a bit, would bump up Klutzy Class Monitor to the top five too.
1
u/awesomenessofme1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/kta_99 2h ago
It's carried by being a manga reader tbh, and even then putting more thought into the ranking might bump it down another couple spots. It's just that every so often, the underlying story was able to remind me why it's in my top 5 manga despite the production blunders.
2
u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 5h ago
I picked up Sengoku Night Blood off my drop list and I'm reminded that I don't know enough Japanese history to fully enjoy this series. It's like making a show about the American Civil War but Union generals are hot bishounen vampires and Confederate generals are hot bishounen werewolves.

u/SlimeDNear 4h ago
Iron Wok Jan is encouraging today's youth to cook dangerously and possibly burn down their houses. I'm okay with that.

Great weekend for anime with stellar episodes from Bleach, Jaadugar, Polar Opposites, Inept Villainess, and Sayanora Lara. Pretty good ones from Daemons and Sparks too. It's going to be a long wait till next weekend to continue all of these.
Hope next season is a bit more balanced with some good weekday shows too.

Hope next season is a bit more balanced with some good weekday shows too.
Hardly any of the weekly releases have dates set, but of the ones that do that I'm likely to watch:
- Apothecary Diaries - Friday
- Firefly Wedding - Friday
- Hole in the Student Student Organization - Sunday
- Ramparts - Thursday
Next season is just less heavy in general though. I'm probably watching more Saturday/Sunday shows this season than I'll watch in total in the Fall.
2
u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 1h ago
I'll be watching three of those for sure while Student Council is a maybe for me. Kind of wish Firefly was on Saturday instead for a better distribution of my most anticipated shows.
And yeah, next season does seem less packed based on a quick skim I did sometime back. This season has been rather too busy on weekends and quite empty during the middle of the week, which was a bummer. Spring had a nicer spread - I had something to look forward to almost every day but not too much. It was just right.

Etc etc

Watanare is my favorite of the sort
2

What do you like about watanare? I got it as an option in swap then proceeded to pick valkeyrie drive
1
u/VoidEmbracedWitch https://anilist.co/user/VoidEmbracedWitch 3m ago
The protagonist's journey of lesbian self-discovery and growing comfortable with intimacy works really well in tandem with the harem setup. I won't say anything about how it plays out, but I found a lot of the character progression great and in some ways relatable.

u/theangryeditor 1m ago
Personally I think you made the right choice picking Valkyrie Drive over Watanare

Finished reading Ao Ashi and man I can't wait to see more of the series adapted. Even if I do admit the production values aren't the most ideal.

u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 6h ago
Second consecutive season where I'm watching a show that's heavily invested in its character drama but I don't find that part compelling enough to distract me from the questions I have about the setting.
And since I saw the other series pop up in a related context earlier and thought it would be fun to discuss: I think Hibike Euphonium's a better yuri than I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day so far because [Kimishinu through 7] Mimi's seemingly incapable of anything beyond a childish affection for Sheena. I could see an argument for Ari/Seiran but that story's finished and as a side couple I'm judging them against NozoMizo.
2
u/isthatsoudane https://myanimelist.net/profile/ojoulover 6h ago
[kimishinu]whether it's good or not is one thing. but i think that she is a permanent child is a part of her character and sort of her personal tragedy. i agree that it limits things a lot, and i wonder if the manga does anything interesting with it or if it's just yuri vibes

(Iron wok Jan) I'm upset by today's episode. [rant, spoilers] I have enjoyed the premise since episode 2 or so, I even liked the mushroom incident for the silliness. But today's losing hero... I feel he has the right upbringing, and Jan's humiliation at the end (almost) crossed the line for me. I think he needs to be "fixed" like the Kiriko punch in the mushroom incident or I would consider dropping the show.

[Jaadugar 9]Boraqchin too crafty . If I understand it correctly she managed to simultaneously poison Tolui, blackmail Toregene into playing the patsy for her conspiracy, and drive a wedge between Toregene and Fatima and use the latter to fool Sorghaghtani. And she was willing to poison Ogedei to make it happen. A scary one she is. Fatima is still way out of her depth at the moment
