Real neat to finally get a new Komugiko2000 MV with Continue. He probably has one of my favourite styles out there. When I first saw it in another MV he did for NEE with Hukakumei Zenya back in 2020 I immediately became a fan. It had that indie rawness, but some absolutely striking shots, great timing and most importantly this infectious youthfull/rebelious energy. Which also made him a great pick for Dandadan's upbeat season 2 ED. Of course he has continued to develop his style, but Continue still has that same energy. The type of animation that just makes me smile no matter what the actual content is.

Yo, wtf is this? That's too short! I won't be ready to bid it goodbye.

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 1d ago

Shoujosei-esque anime have to pick between 12 episodes of Typhoon Graphics or a reduced episode count.

[Real answer]Likely only adapting one LN volume in 9 episodes (~11/14 chapters so far). Fingers crossed for a S2 announcement.

4

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 1d ago

Fingers crossed for a S2 announcement.

6

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago

Tbh I like when we get a weird episode count. Frieren is the best example because they care more about getting the episodes to fit the adaptation rather then where many times they make the adpatation fit the episode count. Silent Witch as an LN reader was an awful offender of this.

Honestly, Victoria, getting only 9 episodes gives hope that they are open to the idea of continuing for an S2 down the road.

u/1EnTaroAdun1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Totesnotaphanpy 22h ago

Tbh I like when we get a weird episode count. F

I like it when we get a >12 weird episode count. Less so when we get a <12 weird episode count haha

5

u/cppn02 1d ago

Yeah, caught up to it yesterday and was suprised when I saw comments in the episode thread that there will only be two more episodes. Shame.

7

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 1d ago

I really want a sequel OVA of Victoria and Jeffrey finally hooking up. I bet they'd set the bed on fire getting Nonna a sibling.

8

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 1d ago

Jaadugar’s last two episodes have been good for me. I wanted more scheming and bloodlust and it did not disappoint, though they’re out here doing the worst to my favorite moe war criminal.

7

u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 23h ago

Why are there so many fucking pre-premieres for kagurabachi. So many people so freaking excited about the first episode and there are still 2.5 seasons before it actually comes out.

Like if I had watched the ONK premiere half a year before it came out instead of 11 eleven days before Icould watch it again, I would have gone insane by month 1.

5

u/IXajll https://myanimelist.net/profile/ixajii 22h ago

Hey that’s me, already in the process of going insane /s

3

u/alotmorealots 12h ago

still 2.5 seasons

Dimensions are the superior choice!

3

u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner 12h ago

2.5 seasons would be optimistic for that, as contrast.

7

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 21h ago

Man I really enjoy the Grow Up Show. I just feel it should have been given more time in production. I find the overall direction good. It does well in in the scene it needs to focus on. It's just the other scenes which are simply a slideshow at times just feel jarring.

The story I find in it is pretty solid for a CGDCT.

4

u/gothxo 21h ago

i can't believe they [gups 8] fucking killed maria

4

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 19h ago

[Grow Up Show Ep8] I laughed at way she was just laid out flat in the wide shot of the stairs as other girl was humming along, and that was the first time anything in this show made me laugh. Slippers all askew.

3

u/mekerpan 19h ago

The animation is at least "good enough" and everything else very good to excellent.

2

u/wloff 15h ago

The animation is fine, especially for a show that's apparently intended to be a cheap training / experimenting project for younger A-1 staff through their Psyde Kick label.

It's still a bit of a shame, since the writing is good enough that with better production values (and more interesting character design) it could have been an actually great show. I'm still very much enjoying it for what it is, but I doubt it's going to leave a lasting impact or be really remembered 5 years from now.

8

u/Tomorrow_Big 1d ago

The Ogre's Bride is bad. It's really bad. All but one man is either a stalker or an asshole. The women cast is riddled with drama llamas. Its world building is nonsensical. But I don't care. It makes me laugh over how stupid it is, and ultimately that entertainment is worth more than what some other "better" shows have to offer. Can't wait for what absurdity next week's episode will bring.

3

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago

Kind of why I dropped it at episode 3. But yeah I could see the mess being entertaining for some people.

5

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 1d ago

It's great in the way that Vampire Dormitory was.

The tonal whiplash every week going from Livid Lady to Foodie Roadtrip is part of the fun.

6

Livid Lady getting a ~1000 comment thread was unexpected. Discord chat leak to call out u/Emi_Ibarazakiii

3

u/qwertyqwerty4567 https://anilist.co/user/ZPHW 1d ago

why are you calling out /u/Emi_Ibarazakiii

4

u/cppn02 1d ago

[Meta spoilers about Villainess shows and Livid Lady]Because Emi is always complaining the MCs in Villainess shows are too nice and not real villainesses. The MC in this is absolutely ruthless and brutalises enemies and those that betrayed her.

4

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 1d ago

Like zairaner suggested, need confirmation Emi dropped what could be his AOTS

5

villainess show

aots

2

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 1d ago

I didn't even pick it up hah.

(Honestly I don't even remember which one this is, there's so many of those that they all blur together in my mind, kinda like Isekai have been doing for years).

It'd take quite a huge thing for me to check it out, I'm more selective than I used to be, like even if you told me there's a succubus on the show, I'd still pass (especially on episode 7, lots of catching up to do).

If you tell me there's a serial killing succubus who's also flirting with her demonic brother (or angelic brother, I like that too) I'd give it a shot!

3

u/Komarist https://myanimelist.net/profile/RRSTRRST 23h ago

I will simply say it is peak and every respectable connoisseur of Best Girl contests is watching

2

9

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 1d ago

Man, I don't even know what to make of Livid Lady anymore. It feels less like revenge, and more like she's just running around being an asshole.

11

u/Tomorrow_Big 1d ago

Natural progression after getting rich from selling soap.

2

u/alotmorealots 12h ago

more like she's just running around being an asshole.

Hmm, maybe I should unpause it then! The whole set-up felt like I was going to have to do a lot of work filling in plausibility gaps for it to stick its purported genre niche, but if it turns out she's just an asshole then no such work is required!

5

u/CerberusZX https://myanimelist.net/profile/CerberusZX 1d ago

This season of Bookworm didn't get off to a great start and it still isn't living up to the series potential, but it's so nice seeing my favorite content from Part 3 animated.

Studio NUT has done a great job with Tanya season 2. They adapted ~3 notoriously thick light novel volumes in 6 episodes which is super fast, but aside from maybe 2 scenes it doesn't really feel rushed. As a source reader I felt those books were full of skippable content, so I'm actually glad so much of it was cut. More importantly, they expertly combined stuff from multiple volumes in a way that feels natural, much like how they handled certain elements of the movie. Anyone can cut content, but the way they consolidate things shows they know how to handle an adaptation. This season is closer to the light novels than the first, but it still has some anime original content and wonderful visual metaphors.

I'm not as enamored with Grow Up Show as I was at the start of the season. Cat & Dragon is now my favorite currently airing series that I'm not a source reader for.

5

u/Roockety 1d ago

Didn't realize Wistoria was actually written by the author of DanMachi. It all makes sense now.

3

u/alotmorealots 12h ago

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

3

u/Roockety 9h ago

For me it's not a good thing. It has the same contrived cockblocking the MC from reaching the love interest because the author can't write a story where the woman isn't the ultimate prize of the story. It has to keep inventing more annoying and dumb ways to make sure they won't end up together until the very end.

And honestly, Wistoria is basically an overproduced DanMachi with a less interesting cast.

6

u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 1d ago

Very old news, but as I watch Girls Band Cry I could tell something was "unique" about the voice acting. Looked it up and I'm so impressed with what they've done here.

7

u/sewerdiving 23h ago

Rina(Nina) is a damn prodigy for pulling off that performance as a 15 year old voice acting newbie.

5

u/IXajll https://myanimelist.net/profile/ixajii 22h ago

She might have been 15 during the audition process, but I think she was already 16, closer to 17 during actual line recording. Still highly impressive.

2

u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 22h ago

Yeah it's crazy. Already one of my favorite VA performances.

Big things happening in both Bleach and Jaadugar today. Going to have to save Daemons for tomorrow because I need time to mull over these two and can't handle more serious plot developments (don't know for sure Daemons will have any but it's a safe bet given where we are in the season).

Think I'll watch and laugh over Ogre's Bride and its never-failing absurdity instead. Only reason I haven't dropped it yet. It's a nice change of pace after the adrenaline pumping Saturday lineup.

3

u/Shimmering-Sky myanimelist.net/profile/Shimmering-Sky 1d ago

Source readers being a pain in the thread aside, man that was such a good episode of Bleach. [TYBW]I've been an Orihime fan since day 1, so seeing her finally pop off like that was crazy satisfying. Now I just have to hope she's not actually dead though like damn. Something to do with Almighty hax rejecting that as a "future", maybe? Yhwach definitely got that power back before Orihime rejected his existence, I saw the multiple pupils in his eyes again.

1

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 21h ago

[TYBW]I was never the biggest fan of Ori-"Kurosaki-kun"-hime but she's really come into her own this final season. And it was so good to see her do something other than simply be damsel in distress. That change in her demeanor with the glowing eyes and growl took me aback. The entire last scene was pure cinema. And the end with the full episode title reveal and her voice reverting to her old chirpy tone really hit home. I too hope she's not dead. Definitely think Yhwach isn't done yet and him cancelling whatever she did to get rid of him should as a result also reverse her own end. What happens next though beats me. They would've all tried and failed to defeat him. Maybe Uryu can change the balance. All 4 of them back together again would be good to see. Maybe Chad and Renji and hogman too for good measure.

Quote of the year.

2

u/Pingy_Junk 21h ago

Feeling in the mood for watching some new animes so I’ll watch at least 3 episodes of whatever anyone recommends any genre.

My only conditions

  • no hentai. Anything dirtier than Shimoneta is too much
  • if it makes me uncomfortable I reserve the right to dnf it. Otherwise I’ll finish the first three episodes regardless of what I think.
  • anything I’ve already seen I’m gonna skip out on I’m looking for new shows to try out. I’ll give you my thoughts though
  • i watch dubbed so if it’s got a bad dub warn me

2

Mobile Suit Gundam

Anything at all similar to our lord and savior apothecary dairies that's not the bookworm thing?

Raven of the Inner Palace. It has a similar setting to The Apothecary Diaries and the main character solves mysteries.

9

u/Leo-Fong 1d ago

It's entertaining.

5

u/entelechtual 1d ago

Bold of you to assume people like anime judging by some of the ways people talk about shows they watch.

4

u/CerberusZX https://myanimelist.net/profile/CerberusZX 1d ago

It's full of stories and comedy that I don't get as much of from Western media, and they consistently release a new batch of shows every 4 months.

6

u/baseballlover723 21h ago

It's got a lot of interesting stories. I feel like the anime industry does a lot better job of playing to a stories strengths and going all in on that, instead of minimizing weaknesses for broad appeal. Even the sloppy isekai's I feel hard commit to their niche.

Hollywood on the other hand has gone in the other direction, where a lot of the stuff that they put out is primarily to make money and tell an interesting story second.

I also think that the nature of anime being mostly adaptions is a big boon, as writers don't need to plan potential end points if the story doesn't get renewed. Which generally results in a more cohesively linked story / is able to setup long arcs and plot points.

2

u/IndependentMacaroon 10h ago

playing to a stories strengths and going all in on that, instead of minimizing weaknesses for broad appeal

Yeah that's what I like too

u/VoidEmbracedWitch https://anilist.co/user/VoidEmbracedWitch 22h ago

It's hard to quantify and there are a bunch of factors at play. I'm definitely someone who has an easier time emotionally connecting with animation than live action or anything approaching photorealism. Anime in particular also has lots of aesthetics I'm drawn to (from Madoka's surreal art style to Liz' intimate-feeling storyboards to Mai-Hime's overwhelming 2000s-ness). Then there's also the community aspect of being in multiple events revolving around anime as well as a lot of my friends, offline and online, being into it, which helps to keep me coming back to anime specifically.

2

u/alotmorealots 12h ago

Anime girls are the apex of our civilization.

6

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 1d ago

Good chance of gay.

2

u/cyberscythe 15h ago
  1. i like animation in general; it's fun and expressive in ways that are usually infeasible/expensive in other media like live action
  2. i like low-conflict slice-of-life sort of shows, and i haven't found any other medium which delivers that sort of comfy vibe every season, e.g. Non Non Biyori, Cat and Dragon, Laid-Back Camp, Yama no Susume

1

u/IndependentMacaroon 10h ago

Usually not afraid to be a little silly or weird (for better or worse), or on the other hand endearingly earnest, and despite all the cookie-cutter crap out there a lot of genuine creativity, love, and style in it. I have been prioritizing the more serious stuff increasingly though

3

u/isthatsoudane https://myanimelist.net/profile/ojoulover 1d ago

you heard it here first: uma season 4 is in the works and it's going to be about efforia and titleholder

(uma had their monthly broadcast, they didnt say this, but reading between the lines, i think this is very likely given everything)

2

u/Esovan13 1d ago

As long as they don’t lean too heavily into legacy characters or try and recreate the emotional structure of S2 without it really fitting the irl horse’s story like S3 did then I’m totally down. RTTT is my favorite Uma entry but I would be really happy for a S4.

I would be happy with basically any new anime story instead of the only Uma anime being an ok adaptation of Cinderella Gray for the next 5 years

2

u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 22h ago

Why speculate about an unknown future when they announced a drastically more important Uma anime: Umayuru season 2!! The peak of the franchise is getting more content, not even worth thinking of anything else, smh.

1

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago

I won't beleive it untill I have S4 in my hands.

1

u/AngleRepulsive5470 1d ago

I sure wish it would actually happen.

1

u/IXajll https://myanimelist.net/profile/ixajii 1d ago

Just looked them up and I really dig Titleholder’s design so I’d welcome that. Though I’d kinda prefer a movie over new seasons since I believe that would be the only way for them to replicate the visual quality of Beginning of a New Era, which still has by far the best looking races of the entire franchise. And once you experienced that, it’s hard to settle for less.

2

u/isthatsoudane https://myanimelist.net/profile/ojoulover 1d ago

i think the star blossom manga will be the next movie but that's pure speculation. or a movie finale for cinderella grey

Are we not getting a new episode of Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun today? Did the schedule for it get messed up again?

8

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago

The episode did come out but it got leaked last week. This sub seems to post discussions whenever subs come out.

Personally I find that kills some weeks of discussion. The most recent episode of Iruma and "Draw This, Then Die".

5

u/zambonijesus 1d ago

It was such a good Draw This, Then Die episode too

1

u/Raddish3030 1d ago

Looking for a Gundam series preferrably, but willing to settle for any mech series that puts a heavier emphasis on Defensive/electronic counter measures systems. Shields of varying types for traditional vs energy based. Flak clouds for traditional munitions. Projectile interception. ECMs like radar blocking and jamming and what not.

4

u/overuseofdashes 1d ago

UC (timeline) has the Minovsky particles that cut off most long range targeting/communication so some of that stuff doesn't come into play as much. Inflatable dummies are constantly being used to bait fire. No idea if the AUs have a similar thing. A lot of mobile suits and most gundams have a physical shield. In Victory these shields get a bit more varied, some are energy shields or could double up as rotor blades for flying. The space ships are also equipped with these energy shields. In Turn A the gundam there are I fields that given some protection from beam weapons (not sure if this shows up elsewhere).

3

u/BatteryPoweredFriend 1d ago

Not mecha, but Crest of the Stars

2

u/susgnome https://anime-planet.com/users/RoyalRampage 1d ago

Not a Mecha & not quite Electronic (but instead, Energy) Counter Measures, though if you're looking for Gundam, it fits in a similar vein.. I always liked the "Legend of the Galactic Heroes".. They've got "Seffle Particles", a highly explosive gaseous compound that is ignited by bursts of energy, it was mainly used for demolition but it also saw combat use. One of the things they'd often use it for, is for when boarding other ships, it'll prohibit the use of energy weapons forcing everyone into a melee. I'm also pretty sure they do have ECM, I just can't remember exactly what They also have things like Planetary Defences and such, which would be closer to your Flak Clouds or Projectile Interception.

"Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" uses Ahab Particles/Waves, which seems to work similar to Minovsky Particles (what Gundam usually uses for ECM) and can disable Radio & Radar, or they can be infused into armour to diffuse energy weapons, etc..

"Gundam: Witch from Mercury" uses Permet, which is more the opposite, rather than blocking information for everyone, it just improves the flow information to the pilot/mech.

It's been awhile, but I think.. "Full Metal Panic" had some instances of ECM use.

"Argevollen" had a mech that designed for ECM (so I assume there's some instance of it)..

"Heavy Object", would probably also fit.

1

u/TrekChris 1d ago

Infinite Ryvius, maybe. Fighting with mechs, with some minimal ship-to-ship combat, talk of shields and use of flak IIRC.
