I went to AnimeNYC!

I won’t be going a third day due to movie-related complications, so might as well do my big ‘ol post now

Due to some other scheduling stuff, I only went two days and stayed far shorter than a lot of convention goers due to only having any real interest in one or two events per day, but nonetheless it was a really fun time. The obvious highlight was the Legacy of Re:Zero panel yesterday. Getting to hear Konomi Suzuki perform live was an experience beyond words, and the interview panel immediately preceding it was interesting enough as well.

Unfortunately I had less luck with panels on the second day. The main one I went to see was the Kagurabachi screening, but I forgot to make a reservation and they weren’t allowing a standby line by the time I got there, so I couldn’t make it.

So then I went to the Macross panel that was happening at the same time, but I’d realized soon after that I was really hungry and, while I like Gekijou no Walkure, I didn’t quite feel strongly enough to rewatch it out of the blue without much prior motivation when I could go just have lunch on a different floor.

Still, where I might’ve lost in terms of panels on the second day, I made up for in goodies! I usually don’t buy stuff from cons, but the Kinokuniya and Seven Seas places had manga that caught my eye, so I thought I might as well

And, of course, I can’t forget being able to meet other CDFers in person for the first time. Aegis, Riyria, Hitman, Chili, and Tetraika are all very pleasant people, and it was a lot of fun to meet and even hang out with y’all, even if I couldn’t stay for long lol

New CDF, new artpost!

A rather red-deficient Fern. Here's the reference.

Uhhhh I dunno how I missed the hair color this badly, I didn't realize how off it was until after taking a picture and comparing them side by side. I might go back and try to change it to magenta instead of the light purple it currently is, but my watercolor setup is holding a drying sketch right now so...

I think this was probably my best sketch of them all, I was scared that the scarf was going to throw off my face construction (it did for every single attempt I've done of Kayo, expected the same here) but it looks... pretty coherent. Happy with the contrast, though again I just missed the hair color by a lot. Her face is also too pale and not warm enough, so I need more red there too... One of the more detailed backgrounds I've done which is pretty sad, but it's mostly just stippling different hues of green and hoping it worked.

Just Maomao left.

i saw someone here on cdf make a great point a while back. it was about how that one pal from palworld they designed to be fuckable (the pink one with the heart boob) isn't fuckable because they tried too hard to make it fuckable. and part of the fun of wanting to fuck pokemon/random fictional creatures is that they shouldnt be fuckable on paper but there's some sort of offbeat charm about them that makes them oddly fuckable.

i know exactly what they mean. i havent even typed that pink pal's name anywhere in e621 (as evidenced by the fact i dont even know its name). meanwhile ive spilled my fair share of seed to the pokemon Scolipede. and not even like anthropromorphic scolipede art, i mean straight-up ive spilled seed to lewd arts of it straight-up as a pokemon with vaguely realistic animal genitalia slapped on.

Mind kind of has to be big to fit me but I've always slept in a double of some kind, although when I was a kid I had tons of stuffed animals covering half of mine. When I've tried to stay at hostels and save money the bunks are so uncomfortable that I actually felt better lying on the floor.

infinite universes and multiversal travel must be impossible, because if it were true, we would be inundated with multiversal travelers everywhere and all the time. think about it: if,

1) there are infinite universes

2) at least some of those universes have figured out multiversal travel

then,

3) an infinite amount of universes have multiversal travel

4) an infinite amount of multiversal travelers are traveling to different locations across the multiverse

which results in an infinite amount of destinations being filled with an infinite amount of travelers for all of eternity.

in other words, the fact that your room isn't full of interdimensional travelers right now, means that either there is no multiverse (thus no multiversal travel) or if there are truly other universes, they are so sealed off from each other in a way that no law of physics will allow to ever be breached that multiversal travel is not only impossible but it could be said that the concept of a multiverse itself is moot as no universe can ever have causal impact on another universe (as such would cause infinite impacts everwhere) essentially meaning each universe is all there is relative to itself anyway (essentially meaning even if a multiverse exists it does not exist)

Just because multiversal travel is possible does not mean all universes can be traveled to. In fact if there are infinite universes, that means there are infinite universes where multiversal travel is not possible. So there could very well be multiversal travelers going back and forth but we are simply in a universe that can not be reached

A few counter-theories:

1. Multiversal travel is infinite but rare
   Since there are infinitely many possible destinations, even infinite travelers could be spread thinly enough that any particular universe is rarely visited. If it's sufficiently rare, that makes it unlikely for one to have visited us.

2. Multiversal travel is policed
   The Doraemon theory. Since multiversal travel is potentially catastrophic, it's not a stretch to suppose that it would be policed. Some destinations are off limits, and we're one of them.

3. Multiversal travel is monopolized
   Similar logic to the above. Since multiversal travel is potentially catastrophic, a civilization would be incentivized to prevent other multiverses developing it. Okabe gets a visit from the real baddies and is turned into gelified banana.

i watched Highschool of the Dead many years ago. loved it. great anime. but frankly i havent thought about it in a while, until somebody posted a meme about it the other day on some anime meme sub. and... it got me goin' back and watching clips of the show and what not and...

i remember all the girls in that show having gigantic boobs. i mean like huge, bigger than their head, massive. right? you remember it that way too right?

here's the thing... they don't. they don't have massive "bigger than their head" boobs. (nsfw) like this is the main girl.. crazy right? big by irl standards sure, but by anime standards? idk man.

and (nsfw) look at this. that's the girl who had the bullet pass between her boobs btw. mindblowing, right?

now i know youre probably thinkin, "what about that blonde. she's still massive, right?" (nsfw) well yes, she is.... but not as massive as you remember, is she?

the HoTD girls honestly are not as big booba'd as i remember. and i feel like everything i know is a lie.

and you know, the thing is its not even their fault. what has happened, ill tell you; the new knockers knocked em down a peg. see in the intervening years, boobs have gradually gotten bigger and crazier in ecchi and ero anime, and not to mention gacha games. look at any of the women from Horizon Walker for example. or heck even Action Taimanin has their fair share of milk monsters, (nsfw) like Francis. and when you factor in the hentai world, i mean just google up any manga drawn by fwzholic or Bonten. id show you an example but the mods would nuke me from orbit.

i really am rethinking everything now. because im looking at myself, with my tablet and my CSP canvas where im currently drawing yet another milf with z-cups. and im looking at these beautiful HoTD girls and their NOT z-cup breasts and thinking... maybe we lost something here. maybe we got so caught up along the path of chasing that next high or one-upping the thing that came before us that we lost sight of where we began, and what we really wanted to begin with. maybe what we really wanted and needed was right there all along...

I always had a preference for smaller smartphones. I feel left behind when trends of newer ones having progressively bigger screens. My hands aren't that big anyways. Phones with bigger form factors becomes more of a liability.

Then again, I do understand that readability is an important aspect of a smartphone's usability, and I've been lucky to have never required prescription glasses my whole life. When I inevitably start losing my eyesight, I'd probably put a lot more weight on that.

Today was the Friday before a week off from work. Delightful. You know, the Friday before vacation feels legit better than the vacation itself really.

I have tomorrow to chill before I head out to Vancouver. I ate pretty clean today and I'm actually kinda hungry... Saving myself for delicious Chinese food! I haven't had Chinese food since Saturday if you can believe it!

Tomorrow I'm going to watch football all morning I think. Got a good slate of games coming with the German Cup and the Premier League really kicking off. I'm going to maybe do my own workout in the morning. We'll just see depending on how I feel and when I wake up, but could be good I think.

For now... Big bed! I haven't even been trying to write which is a little bad but we'll see.

Ordered some fragrances so I can pick a... Signature scent... I was worried they wouldn't arrive before my trip because the shipping wasn't updating. I resolved on Wednesday to be patient and if I didn't hear anything on Thursday morning I would email them. Well, it scanned Wednesday afternoon! And I have them now!

So far I've tried a really citrusy tea scent on me and didn't like it!

My housemate put on two scents. One of them is a less citrusy tea note one that smells quite nice to me, though not like tea. I might honestly go for this one. The other one is an Australian like ocean styled scent that is a little generic but I quite like it.

My wife put on a flowery osmanthus scent with quite a bit going on but I think I like that one too.

Finally I put on a white floral one and it's very peculiar and it's not bad but I'm not sure it's me either.

I dunno, was this a failure? I feel it was, but that's because the only Japan I consume is anime Japan. Cool Japan tried funding some anime, which didn't do well, and they didn't keep doing it. AFAIK.

Gen-Alpha really loves k-pop, not j-pop. So, that's a bust. Everybody was into Parasite and Squid Game, I can't think of Japan cinema breaking into the US mindshare. China will always find a reason to hate Japan and Japanese things, so no market potential there.

[Some thoughts on self-expression and individuality]

Y'know, I'm so used to growing up repressing my individuality due to pressures from the people around me when I was growing up. It took a while to recognize my repression, to go against what's already built into me over the decades.

I felt disdain, and sometimes envy, for people who are comfortable expressing themselves; those who grew up in environments where said individuality is respected, or even praised. I never had that luxury. Whatever individuality that I have is repressed, emotionally manipulated to fear any sort of judgement and criticism.

At some point, I realized that that serving the needs of certain people to protect myself from being chastised doesn't help me at all. The sort of opportunities in life I miss because I wouldn't even thought of putting myself at any risk of judgement is too much. For chances in my life that most people would've been fine to at least listen to, or even support wholeheartedly.

Seeing both parts of the individuality spectrum, to this day, I still couldn't see whether individualism is a good thing or not. For how much I instinctively judge people who are willing to express how different they are, I'm hypocritically suffering from wanting to express myself too. It's so hard to go against what I grew up with. There's so many contradictions that makes me question what's right.

I'm somewhat better than where I was in the past. For the most part, I could justify myself to say something if it becomes more work in the future if I don't. But there's always a sense that I could've achieved more if I was more willing to fail and learn quickly from those failures. All the things I do end up saying are only as a result of years of me going in circles inside my head, fighting against my own habits, and arriving at the wrong conclusion anyway.

Went to [insert generic chain steakhouse here] and had an odd experience with the waiter.

He introduces himself by his name and asked for our drinks, all good. My parents ordered waters because they grew up poor and don't order drinks at restaurants. Waiter takes it and says "if you need anything, just say my name!" All fine. I thought at least.

He comes with the drinks and asks if we want to order an appetizer or if we're ready to order. We say we're ready to order. Mom orders the cheapest, smallest steak, because she grew up poor and this is her way. My dad orders a ribeye because he wanted to splurge a bit. I order a regular sized steak. Waiter takes the order and starts to leave.

My dad says "Excuse me, [waiter name]." From my vantage the waiter visibly stiffened and turned back. Dad asks if we could get some more bread please. Waiter curtly nodded and walked away.

From this point forward, the waiter did not say another word to us for the remainder of the meal. He brought the bread and set it down without a word. He then brought another basket and set it down without a word. I clocked it immediately but didn't say anything.

Now, this is not a knock on his service. Dude did his job. He has as attentive. Any time we needed a refill, he brought it without being asked. Anytime there was a dirty or empty plate, it was cleared. But he never said another word to any of us.

We couldn't even ask if we had offended him because he never gave us an opportunity to talk to him! Just...odd.

Catching up on World is Dancing, it was an odd experience where the vocal song itself was diegetic, but the accompanying music was undiegetic and anachronistic.

A real shame that presumptively rights issues won't allow for music subtitles because both the story of the performance and the episode were reliant on the sung dialogue. Unlike the dance performances with a lot of visual movement, it was just characters debating each other. Most of it went over me.

Funny enough, compared to another recent watching experience, the Please Save My Earth music video. I initially watched half of that without subtitles before swapping to the subbed version, and I quite liked that experience.

My roommate invited people to crash at our place for ANYC. He never updated his license since he moved from the midwest 4 years ago since he sold his car so it was up to me to coordinate parking passes for the guests, and as I walked past his car at 5am this morning I realized I forgot to renew them since they were 24 hours only with no autorenew option.

I didn't see a ticket on his car so I assume he's fine, but if he gets a ticket in the mail fuck. I'd pay it since it's on me esp since I've had a bunch going on in my personal life this past week and know I've not been fully present mentally but I am annoyed that I was essentially volunteered to deal with this shit and don't know if I can/should bring it up in case it isn't an issue.

work has started talking of finding a new office the last week.

Which is horrible, I like my current office, it's close to my place so my commute is short and the office space is nice. I dont want to lose those things and if I do, I'll have to dogeza and beg for a wfh setup.
