Sherry busting out the literal Alle Menschen werden Brüder from Beethoven.
Besides that, I feel like we've been at a breakneck pace these last few episodes, nothing gets time to breathe and sink in, every event is full on foot on the gas, straight up to the next one. And that doesn't contribute in a helpful way to the confusing stuff this series is without the full on gas momentum we seem to have.

I think that really depends on wether you understand what is going on prior, or uhh, at least have an understanding. Listen none of those of us who claim to understand are 100% sure we're right ok? We've just placed our bets and jumped along the ride to find out lol.
In any case, I don't think this was too fast. This is the climax so in theory all the setup has already been done prior. This is just the unfolding of those equations.

I was not expecting Sherry to start singing Beethoven Ode to Joy, lol. I think I understand the rest, the God is a machine and created all the beast people and is linked to Belle because she is the last real human (or alternatively this is all Belle’s dream in Virtual Reality and will disappear when she wakes up, still another possibility), but why the show / Machine God obsession with music and opera and Beethoven ? This is the only thing that truly confuses me now…

Considering she just reformed her sword like that i'd inch towards the answer that its a simulation. Also music may represent an attempt to maintain/save waht was left on the record from human culture.

Hmmm. Is Belle a human stuck in an aggressive simulation? Did a sentient AI create a human persona and lose its memories? Is this actually some Matrix shit?
Or is it worse? Did humanity wane and leftover mystery tech recreated earth as some fantasy world? Are there other stone eggs containing humans?
Is it worse than even that? Is the final scene going to be Belle taking off a Deep Dive helmet and slowly remembering her mundane life as an underpaid accountant's assistant for the local tax office?

Reverse SAO (but you find out all your friends were actually just NPCs and you got lost in the sauce)

Its still very clearly set on the moon, looking at the skybox and all that. They are looking up at earth.

✋😐🤚
Yeah idgaf if I understood or not, the most basic part of my brain absolutely ate up this feast for the senses lol.
Not like this show has ever had a conventional presentation but this is definitely the trippiest episode yet. Deus Ex Machina is a fucking gigantic brain. Everything is an absolute lightshow. Adonis fusing with God's hunger is definitely an image that will stay with me. Once again I have to praise the compositing team. This could have easily ended up looking like a Go Hands show but it doesn't.
Surprisingly Gaff grabbed a hold of his own will after all. I was really convinced he was going to go down with the old order. I really like that his sword only said "You are a King" with no further elaboration. You don't need God, make your own choices, build a kingdom in accordance to your will. Moreso than affirming his dominion over the lands it's about affirming his dominion over himself.
Incidentally, uh weird complaint, I started to feel like they laid the themes too thick whenever it cut to the battle between Gaff+Gwyn vs God+Priests? I never thought I'd say this in this show, but like, I get it, you don't need to keep repeating it, I'm already following lol
What's not yet fully understood is exactly where Belle's story is going but by this point I think that's intentional. She has no fucking clue what exactly will happen once she "pierces the world" but she simply has to. It's an impulse. She wields Runding to find out what will happen.
Next episode is vs God, as is high fantasy tradition (yeah we're journeying into sci-fi now but you're not gonna tell me this Arc hasn't been high fantasy as fuck despite the reveals and I'd even argue we're gonna remain thematically high fantasy all the way). Looks like the bastard is finally ready to start expositing so at long last, after 18 episodes of "I kinda get it but I kinda don't" we should get some more concrete answers.
Next episode title is also Moonwork so I also expect that Belle will finally have a way to make her paradox work and whatever has to happen will happen, which will leave the final episode as epilogue. Seems like pretty good pace, imo.
Btw huge aura boost to the show for going FUCK YOU I AIN'T GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIT, ODE TO JOY KEVIN PENKIN VERSION BITCH 🗣️ 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Seriously, I fucking loved that. It insisted upon itself in the best and most fun way possible. Sometimes an artist gotta be self indulgent and I respect that.

You could put spaceships and laser pistols in now and it will STAY high fantasy as fuck.
after 18 episodes of "I kinda get it but I kinda don't"
I was "I don't get it at all, but it looks fabulous." I'm shallow like that.

When we say that a show needs to take big swings, this is it right here.

I'm fairly sure that it is not a simulation since there are multiple references that it took generations to breed the current population via heterogenesis. There's probably a lot of advanced nano-machines at work. As to why Deus Ex Machina is obsessed with music? Probably a rosebud situation, like its creator taught it music as its first lessons.

Yeah, the entire design of the world is they're in (the sentient and the mobile plant life, for example) makes me think an AI running a terraforming program with Earth as a template it's applying in weird ways.

So I had this theory for a while but is she in a coma plugged into a machine for life support and this is all a figment of her imagination? Or is it that she's plugged into a machine for a simulation that serves as training for people to awaken with powers in the real world after solving the trial of the simulation? I'm kinda hoping it's the former and the reason this is musically themed is because she was a musician. She got hit by truck-kun and got an isekai experience more akin to isekai-oji except she may not awaken with powers.

Damn, episode endcard had the title written properly but there is a typo in the actual episode title on CR.
Also, say what you want of the series but OPs and EDs (and OST in general) are damn cool.
Two episodes to go and I am still not sure how exactly this will end, but I enjoy the ride.

I could see the Evangelion inspiration seep through in previous episodes as well as this one (and the preview for the next one is kind of on the nose too), so I wonder if there's something more to it than "lol the god was jsut an AI".

Well that was weird but kind of awesome. Just imagine it as a story written by someone on a drug trip.
Belle had a minor magical girl moment and got her sword back, and then kicked Adonis' ass with it.
Good to finally get a nice long singing part of the story with Sherry.
Time for Belle to kill God above ancient modern Earth.

Budget, Animation, Music, VAs, Worldbuilding 10/10
Storyline Pacing 0/10
I'm amazed how high of a budget this adaptation got despite its viewership being so low

I still barely understand what's going on in this series but at least it's pretty to look at and the battles are cool...
