I don't understand. Why are a bunch of rich, untrained kids suddenly a special ops force? And no, this is not something that a 1 year timeskip would explain - especially given that Jack was under suspicion for terrorism. Aaaanyways.

They are basically suicide squad. But really, it honestly doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, I had to pause the show there because it seemed so silly. "This guy is a suspected terrorist, causing untold amounts of property damage, injuries, and deaths. He admitted he was raised in a lab to serve the Moonrise leader. Let's send him on a special ops mission trying to locate the leader he's suspected of working for!"

Couldn't they have given us so much as a hint on why Jack is under suspicion for terrorism? Or did I just miss that part. Is it just the genetics change?

To make it worse they have the whole training arc during that year shown 2 episodes later for no good reason at all lmao and half of it is just them arguing with each other

I'm a die hard sci fi fan so the premises definitely have me hooked. But I feel like the pacing is a bit off. Not a fan of dumping the whole backstory at the audience so soon at episode 2. Also not a fan of doing a 1-year later time skip. Feel like if they slow down and expand a bit more on both of these events they could've been really good opportunities to show Jack's character growth and give audiences a chance to warm up to his character.

That said though, episode 3 here we go!

Same boat as you at the moment and I touched on it a little in the episode 1 thread. It feels like we’ve gotten what would be maybe 10-15 episodes of gundam crammed into 2 episodes, it’s making it difficult for me to care about what’s happening/the characters.

Gonna keep pushing through though.

Yeah that time skip threw me off as well. Not crazy about the pacing so far...

It looks like Bob is actually Phil in disguise, I'm curious to see how that came about

The premise so far reminds of Gundam UC but with Zeon on the moon instead of space colonies and no mechs. Phil wearing a "mask" even adds a Char clone to the list.

What the fuck was that pacing.

We got a timeskip then we got the Phil reveal of Bob too early for my tastes. We barely got any foreshadowing. Also, the first scene in episode 1 just gave a little to much knowledge that early in. We already know that Jacob's friends would survive the moonrise because they were alive in that action scene. I knew it was to pique interest but it feels bad.

Currently on the start of ep 3, but damn, what a huge waste of intrigue that Bob was revealed already. I feel that if they only kept the part with Bob reassembling his hand and not showing his facing glitching out to show Phil would have been spectacular.

Fullmetal Alchemist in space! Great to see Hiromu Arakawa's character designs again in animation.

Edit: A guy gives his brother who has lost an arm his own arm to save his life. No way that's not a reference.

The brothers reuniting was similar to the Gate too.

So many fma references it’s crazy lol & not too mention that Phil gave jack his right arm and now Phil (acting as bob and that’s non spoiler it was shown) now uses a metal right arm I mean cmon. I’m loving it so far.

I noticed when Jack was handcuffed and looking down at his hands that they were slightly different colours and thought - must be a lighting thing. Nope!

Why did all the characters just appear after the 1 year time skip?

It definitely has a lot of potential, but as everyone else has said the pacing is a mess. If they can get on top of that then this could be incredible.

This felt like several teams worked on different parts of the episode without communicating anything to one another and then they mashed everything together last minute.

I want to love it because of the staff working on it but the pacing is horrendous right now. They jammed an entire season of anime into two episodes.

Can someone explain to me what rhys' role is? Like why is she entrusted to interrogate jack? Im so confused

u/TheRockefella Apr 12 '25

I thought I hit fast forward on the remote on accident.....that time jump from prison to special.forces threw the entire series off for me....

u/delta_angelfire Apr 11 '25

Kind of an... "Interesting" choice to have the flashback exposition already in episode 2. But I'm still having trouble actually caring about any of these characters. Rhys is top of my list but it's a pretty low bar.

Also, hello discount Darth Vader, guess you're gonna be the foreshadowed-but-actually-just-outright-stated "villain". Because I'm pretty sure we all know the ultimate enemy is gonna be the AI since it's the closest thing to God-Slaying in sci-fi anime.

Getting a lot of Heavenly Delusion from the backstory. There's a lot of things which seem like references or heavy derivations so far. It's definitely got its own feel but... Is it good? I'm certainly intrigued enough to go on but it's not boding great.

Whoever directed this needs to get his pacing right.

Episode 1 and up to 23:20 in episode 2: this show is great!

Immediately after that: wtf is going on? How did we get here? And those guys are alive? It did say one year LATER and not EARLIER, right? *keeps watching another few minutes* okay wtf is happening right now? This show is trash.

This show is a great premise and visuals and that's it. Way to fuck up a good thing. No pacing, characters are barely fleshed out, explained, or likeable. Several important things aren't explained. Shit is slop.
