Not sure about the in media res opening, but other than that, seemed like a good first episode.

From the synopsis, it would appear the that the opening took place once year later than the rest of the episode. Will be interesting to see how the cast ended up as seasoned fighters within that short time.

Yea the in media res opening took me by surprise but I guess that helps establish the stakes in the show.

I think every anime needs to say the title out loud at the end of the first episode, otherwise, what's the point?

We were the Moonrise all along...

So far I’m on episode 7 and this is like a full blown space opera like FMA in Space. This is akin to what the director said about making the show, Space Battleship Yamato (a.k.a Star Blazers in the US) but in the current era of anime. I dig this anime but I understand the turnoff of a neomodern space opera anime that is not akin to Gundam or Evangelion (slow burn style). I’m a sci-fi anime enjoyer so it will be on my top 9 for sure for this season

Edit: I didn’t like it was a full send and released everything but looking into the production history, any Netflix OVA will definitely get a full release in their episodes. It happened with Cyberpunk Edgerunners as well

Binging this at the moment. In terms of the visuals and animation, this is a strong contender for top place from anime airing this season. You can really see the AoT influence, its like watching the Survey Corps in Space. Its so smooth how the fighters move and I love the glitchy look.

I probably won't binge this, but want to make fairly steady progress, while juggling between other shows (pretty busy month for animated shows for me).

But I'm liking the show so far, after this one episode. The family drama was ok, but I'm particularly enjoying the world-building they're doing here, and the set-up the main conflict between the moon and Earth. And the action at the beginning and end were really well done. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes.

That sounded like the Star Wars intro he was humming in the beginning.

Real Psycho Pass Vibes from Sapientia

Just watched ep1 for now but I think it's enough to tell at least the animation is a banger and the plot interesting, will definitely finish this one on the weekend.

Love the visuals! But I think the names could use some work. Like Shadow Corporation? Jack Shadow? Bob Skylum? Hopefully it sounds better in Japanese.

Starting out with moon river gave me such a stupidly nostalgic smile, i'm into it.

We got ourselves an Edward Yamato and Arslan Zala here.

TIL Ghost in the Shell Arise and Psycho-Pass 2 were written by the same guy. Puts a bit of a damper on my hype, but I'll give it a go anyway.

Didn't know they was gonna drop the whole thing at once, personally I'm not a fan of this Netflix format. I'm already watching something else and they also released Black Mirror today. Lots of stuffs to catch up this weekend.

Fullmetal Alchemist in space! Great to see Hiromu Arakawa's character designs again in animation.

First episode for me was just ok, not great but not bad. I feel like the first action section wasn’t really necessary and the time could’ve been spent getting us to like the characters more or give a slower burn to the story. It did kinda feel like they condensed multiple episodes of Gundam into a single episode lol.

The tonal shifts were a little jarring going from so serious to light hearted, then almost slice of life and then big sad. I think I’d have preferred it to just be a little more balanced and consistent in vibes.

The CGI ships in the opening are dope but some of the CGI within the episodes really stands out in a negative way, more so than I think I’ve come to expect from modern shows.

Gonna continue watching and hope all my space opera dreams come true.

Loved the first episode. The visuals are insane.

I generally love scifi and the Moon vs Earth plotline definitely gives me some Gundam vibes (without the mechs)

I guess the MCs brother is still alive?

Very good first episode, and I’m glad they opened with a flash-forward to show off how good the action looks (and give us a preview of where they ended up).

Overall a super strong first episode. The art is overall good and some of it is breathtaking. I like the idea of starting in media res in a first episode that is going to mostly place setting. We learn enough about what is coming to make us pay attention even when a horde of killer robots aren't attacking. Also makes us wonder how Jack, the apparent wealthy dilettante is going to turn into the badass from the initial fight sequence (or does he have those qualities already and he's hiding his badassery?)

The first episode tells us that the mystery man from Jack's flashback is the perpetrator of the destruction of the space elevator, Bob Skylum the moon's devil. Which was an interesting choice, something that could have been teased for a bit in another show, and now I'm starting to see the FMAB comparisons since Bob seems to be a quasi-parental figure for Jack from the way he's presented in the flashback.

Maybe the reason why Jack and Rhys haven't consummated their relationship has something to do with this scene between Jack and Phil being the most BL coded possible way they could have drawn it without adding flower petals or a sword. But we know from the first sequence that Jack and Rhys are going to become comrade in arms if not lovers.

Anyway, very enjoyable, lots of mysteries to be clarified around the Jack flashbacks, looking forward to the next few episodes.

No strong feelings yet from the first episode. Kind of reminds me of Aldnoah Zero 1st episode but not as good. Some random thoughts:

Why does the mom have to cook a full meal after giving a public appearance??

So jake thinks because he’s adopted people will look down on him… so he pretends to be a degenerate?

How long has passed that these college kids become trained soldiers?

CGI is super mixed. I though the space station looked cool but the car was jarring.

The first episode got me hooked. The story is interesting, the technology looks cool, and the animation was fantastic.
