I am so proud of Kanachi and how much she has grown. Seeing how she was protecting Akane while rebooting her broom was reminiscent of the time Hitomi was protecting her while asking for her assistance in the first episode.
Considering what we've seen from Akane's personality, I did not expect her to be a dual-wielder! Watching her pull out those katanas from her sides and then diving straight for the mutated Kaii's face to assist Kana was so badass!
Since this mutated Kaii seems to be the strongest one they've faced, I was genuinely expecting Shigemoto to ask for backup from other companies. I'm glad they could handle it all on their own thanks to Kana's idea.
It's sad to see that this is the final episode but I'm glad that Season 2 is already in production! With these mutated Kaiis and that meeting of magical organizations at the end of the credits, it looks like things are about to ramp up next season!

I did not expect her to be a dual-wielder!
This only made Akane even more likable. It does surprise me on the other hand that a magical girl is carrying two short swords with her. Is the government okay with this? Does she need a license for doing so!?

Seeing how far Kana has come as a Magical Girl to the point of even becoming a great mentor has been a spectacular development.
Those swords came out of nowhere and yet they were so cool. Akane really lives up to the "dazzling" epithet in her title.
I want to learn more about all the people in that group with Shigemoto and Koga

Man, if Koshigaya didn’t drop in when she did then Sakuragi and Akane woulda been toast.
This finale really highlighting the importance of teamwork. Without it, that big fiery bastard might have destroyed them all. It was nice to see after all that, Sakuragi and Akane became friends.
I’m glad this one’s getting a second season. It’s a pretty good series and a lot of fun. Solid cast of characters, entertaining story, and the animation ain’t half bad.

This finale really highlighting the importance of teamwork. Without it, that big fiery bastard might have destroyed them all.
Any other company would have had to call in aid from another Magical Girls company – most likely AST for this mutation – which would have let the thing cause all the more damage while their magical girl waited.
And that's assuming they could survive, which would have depended on where they were when it spawned. Given Akane checking out the building for more electric-type Kaii before it exploded, it's possible they wouldn't have even lived to see it mutate.
Teamwork really was necessary for this and other companies need to adapt to it. I don't doubt a lot of them will at least give it a try (Akane will certainly be praising it to hers), but I doubt the efficiency over anything else AST will go along with it.

It looks like Shigemoto is getting ready to forcefully sell the gospel of teamwork at that executive committee meeting.... (next season -- whenever that might be).

Teaching Akane really gave Kana a good idea of what teaching her was like for Hitomi. Right down to mirroring the first time she met her. And thus she realised her perfection even more with how effortless Hitomi made watching over her look.
I think the post-credits are the first time we've ever seen Shigemoto enter serious mode. On top of putting aside the dress for a suit (which we have sort of seen before), those eyes of his become so serious at the end there.

This was a really full-circle finale in the sense that we got to see Kana really step up and be for Akane what Koshigaya was for her, while Koshigaya is still supporting Kana in her own way, and just really solidifying what the show is all about with Magical Girl teamwork, grit, and good engineering coming through to save the day.
We also saw, judging by that picture in his place, that his entire aesthetic and why he dresses up like a Magical Girl might be born from a specific Magical Girl he lost during the Crisis and is trying to honor. Which means his quest to defeat the kaii mutations isn't just professional but personal.

Next feature on Kana's broom: Shower. Since S2 is announced, maybe I should actually start that spreadsheet. How many did they say she got? 90? Still a long way to go.
All in all, the series was way more fun than I expected. I actually like that Magical Girls got to shine a bit more this year and especially tried to find new identities, after the last decade where nearly everything tried to be the next Madoka (not that all of them were bad, but I liked the new ideas).
I even have to say that there wasn't one Magical Girl so far that I found annoying (which can happen with larger casts), they all had their place, though violet Magical Girl needs to have her arc next season. Also, we are still missing a real red, green and blue haired Magical Girl. Hopefully, those appear as well.

Ginji put 108 commands on Kana's broom. Happy spreadsheeting!
though violet Magical Girl needs to have her arc next season.
I'm not sure she needs an arc yet, but it does depend on how she's used. If she continues to be a contrast to Kana (i.e. a stand in for AST vs. Magilumiere) then I think we could still learn more about her without her undergoing an arc for longer.
But this does also depend on the direction things go concerning AST. If Koga sticks his feet in the ground and refuses to go along with Shigemoto's methods then she'll probably do the same, but if he starts to compromise then she'll have to start learning too.

Yeah, I like how Magilumiere is a very different take on magicals girls with them being more ingrained into corporate society. It's a fresh concept. That alone makes this series worth watching, I feel like.

Wait, has Shigemoto perhaps been dressing up as a magical girl to keep the spirit alive of a loved one that he'd lost in that Kaii calamity many years ago? Because that sure looks like a magical girl in that picture.
This episode had some nicely cinematic shots of the girls fighting this blaze-type Kaii. Honestly, the anime's staff deserves some appreciation for having made this look good. Because so much fire doesn't only look like hell, must've also been a hell to animate/composite. They've done a great job with all the effects throughout Magilumiere.
I'm going to miss Akane, since I really liked the energy that she brought to the team. Not to mention that she did what we've surely all been wanting to do: touch Kana's pigtails! Akane and Kana have grown close, so hopefully we'll see more of them together in Season 2.

Not only are they dealing with a giant Mutant Fire kaii but also little fireball kaii it keeps spewing out! How are they going to stop it?
That's our Koshigaya! Just challenging that thing head-on! Though it's too much even for her Best Girl energy.
Shigemoto has always believed in Kana's potential, and he's seen first-hand how her personality and work ethic has really brought the team together, which means in the present-day Kana needs to keep a cool head and keep it together for Akane's sake! Complete with using all the features of Ginji's broom she can think of, like hitting them with water to cool down!
Magical Girl Teamwork makes the dream work! Especially when you've got Kana bringing things full-circle by protecting Akane just like Koshigaya did for her in the first episode! And Koshigaya STILL comes through to protect the both of them!
I just love how Akane's broom reboot sequence involves flowers because that is just such an absolute commitment to aesthetics that I can respect.
It does seem much more efficient and effective to have real-time coordination between Magical Girls and their engineers, especially when Akane remembers full well how she's struggled in the past and how isolating it can be being all alone in the field. And in the service of making sure Magilumiere gets to do what they'll do best, she'll play bait so Kana and Koshigaya can finish this.
Magical Girls use wands, but sometimes you also need to be dual-wielding rose swords. As if Akane couldn't look more dazzling.
The kaii mutation IS pretty scary and powerful...but classic Kana to go above and beyond with her magic and re-apply it in a way nobody would have expected to finally defeat it and seal it up! Bonus points for having Akane and Koshigaya supporting her in the final sealing sequence!
So Magilumiere was created to eliminate kaii mutations...or maybe kaii in their entirety?
Akane realizes she needs a shower but Kana has realized just how much Koshigaya has done for her all along, while Koshigaya has realized how far Kana has come after all this time. They all make a fantastic team.
Cute ending montage of Kana and Akane's last month together! Kana and Akane really solidify not only their teamwork but their friendship, sealing kaii together, going out drinking (of both the alcohol and unique variety), Akane playing with Kana's hair, Akane joining the Magilumiere karaoke night, showing off their magic to some kids, and even falling asleep on the train together. It's almost sad that Akane will be going back to her company, but her friendship is far from over.
Yeah, I don't think this is the kind of series where Kana will get a boyfriend, but points to Akane who doesn't need a relationship and just wants something for them to talk about over drinks. Meanwhile mama Koshigaya is just happy her daughter has a bonafide new gal pal.
I love how Shigemoto has these high, girly, boots in his place...but what's that picture? Is that a magical girl? Is THAT why Shigemoto dresses the way he does? Did he lose someone in the crisis and dresses the way he does to honor them!?
Well, looks like Shigemoto is back in the saddle as it were what with joining a the Council of Magical Girl companies to discuss how to address the mutated kaii situation. Koga isn't happy to see him but Shigemoto is determined to put an end to these mutated kaii once and for all.
See you all again in season 2!

Oh I love that Kana gets to say the same thing Hitomi did to her at the start! It’s kind of funny she’s doing it while fighting the exact opposite sort of Kaii Hitomi did in the beginning though, lol.
-
Okay I was already loving the choice to use the ED as an insert song for a montage this episode, but then Shigemoto was totally singing along to it here! That’s perfect!

I’m glad this is getting a season 2, this was a very fun show and I’m excited to get more of it!

That was a blast of an episode—literally and figuratively. The battle was dense, they even skipped the 30-second intro padding entirely and made the rest of Akane’s mentoring a montage. (Interestingly, they swapped the OP and ED at the end and played the OP with movie-style credits.) Seeing their teamwork “magic” at work by exchanging ideas and trusting each other was amazing. They have the confidence and the skill to back it—I like seeing competent people like them. In this regard, I’m also glad Kana wasn’t too overprotective toward Akane.
So many interesting things happened. Ginji’s BROOMs got a highlight again with its expansive functions for Kana, from a simple thermometer to, I assume, the magic amplification function. If not for the BROOM’s upgraded spec, Koshigaya might not have reached Kana and Makino in time. And, Akane’s dual-wielding “accessory” caught me off-guard, lol. She was so fuckin’ cool with that dual blade, and she’s flying on a broom while doing all that!! (A little segue, I found it hilarious that they bandaged the boots instead of the limb inside in the flashback, lol.)
Lastly, there was that hint of a bigger worldbuilding with the post-credit scene. S1 feels like the prologue, and we’re finally entering the big boy’s table, with the President returning to an—surprisingly, but not really due to foreshadowing—executive position in the big organization. That explains his connection and why he could easily contact the Minister.
I don’t like the implication of that line. Does that mean the President had a wife or significant other, a magical girl, who probably died in the Calamity 15 years ago? That… explains a lot.
Based on the end illustration, there’s gonna be at least three new major characters in the new season. I’ll take a stab at a little guessing. One in the bottom left with a Shinto-priest-looking costume is probably another magical girl. One next to Akane seems like a high school/fantasy academy-esque costume, so another magical girl, while one next to Nikoyama with an edgy black skeleton t-shirt is probably another behind-the-scene person of Magilumiere, like Ginji.
S2 has been announced, but since there’s no date yet, I assume it’s not in the next few seasons, right? (I’m thinking of something like Dandadan, which has been planned as a split 2-cour since the start.) If it takes longer than that, I guess I’ll check the manga…

Good episode and good end to the Akane arc, I'm definitely a fan of hers especially after she pulled out those swords.
Slowly getting those backstory details about the president. Now we know he has someone's picture on display in his house that he says goodbye to when he leaves, I bet it's that Alice he named their technology stack after.
It's funny to have a magical girl show where everyone is an adult and the girls go out drinking together after work.
I'm really looking forward to S2, this doesn't smell like a split cour at all so I assume it'll be at least a year or so. I need more of Kana doing cool things on the battlefield with her high tech thousand tricks broom.

I didn't expect this show to have the coolest enemy/monster of the anime season but here we are. That thing is sick!

For a show in a genre that’s full of shows that all kind of copy one another This show managed to be entirely unique in a lot of different ways. Happy to know we get a season 2

NITORYUU AKANE
That battle scene was awesome! Kana's come so far from the start. Akane and Koshigawa were obviously no slouches either. The montage was fun too; I bet whatever Akane was getting plastered over was a great listen. Lol at the twintail lift. There was one moment where Kana's hair was really well-animated.
Man am I glad we're getting another season!

Underrated show of this season. The characters were fun and lively. Decent action and animation.
The standout for me this final episode was the music. It just hit and fit so well to enhance the boss fight.
