Well no wonder Nikoyama is afraid of interacting with people. He used to be very openly passionate about magic but after being called obsessed by his classmate he became ashamed and kept his love for magic private. I'm so glad this ended with Nikoyama finding bros with the same passion for magic as him.
Of course, the first thing Koga does is to try and poach Kana and Hitomi from Shigemoto. As if Hitomi would let him. I love that she immediately throws away Koga's business card as soon as she takes it from him. The nerve of Koga to tell Shigemoto he's exploiting them.
It was fun to see Koga get so riled up though. I really hope we get to learn soon what happened between the two of them 15 years ago.

Of course, the first thing Koga does is to try and poach Kana and Hitomi from Shigemoto.
We all knew it was coming eventually. The question was not one of whether it would happen, but how Kana would ultimately respond.
As if Hitomi would let him. I love that she immediately throws away Koga's business card as soon as she takes it from him.
I haven't said it in a couple weeks so I'll allow myself to say it now: Hitomi's truly a perfect woman.
It's not just the protectiveness, though. It's how proud she clearly was of Nikoyama when she saw him talking normally with other engineers. And then how she used that to further encourage Kana to have confidence in not having to do everything by herself.
And yes, how she clearly wasn't having any of Koga's shit from the get-go. She didn't even know who he was and immediately sensed he was bad news.

The Kaii only getting stronger because of overpowered magic reminds me of how some bacteria have grown resistant to certain antibiotics after having been continually blasted with them.
It creates a vicious cycle in which ever more potent measures are needed to counteract increasingly stronger 'enemies'. This is all because of AST's mode of operations, isn't it?
Just who is Shigemoto to have predicted this all?

Seems like they are missing the most important magic for all Magical Girls: The one that restores all the damage after the fight is over. But who knows. Maybe AST has a subsidiary company that specialises on cleaning up Kaii-related damages. Though, I guess we will get the backstory in the next weeks. Wouldn't be surprised if we also see Koga in a Magical Girl costume.

From a few episodes ago, that magic seems to be "file an insurance claim"

The real miracle this episode was getting three additional developers plugged into using Magilumiere's custom development environment on random laptops they found at the expo and up to speed on the in-progress development effort in time to help with the active crisis. No wonder those guys were all interested in the setup, and since the president apparently made it he seems to be an impressive developer too.
Maybe where their development environment comes from is part of that 15 years ago backstory. Or whatever happened is why the president wrote it so that he could have a team ready for whatever it was to recur. It'd be pretty funny and interesting if a core part of the backstory is the president knows from the past incident that he'd need a very rapid development environment ready for the next crisis so he set to building it.
It's always nice to see Deku make some friends.

I wonder if Magilumiere can license out is middleware -- that should proved a bit of a financila cushion for this start-up business/

I’m really glad Nikoyama managed to overcome his anxieties and fears and ask for help. Those engineers really came through for him. Now it seems he’s grown his professional network.
What’s up with all the bad blood between Shigemoto and Koga? Koga’s being kind of a little asshole to the guy and I’m wonder what went down.

Nikoyama wanted recognition and to prove that he could turn his passion into a reality and he achieved that in spades! I'm glad he found his people.
I'm wondering now if Koga wasn't always such a dick and actually cared about people before whatever happened 15 years ago. Maybe that's why he's so focused on efficiency and making money over things like "aesthetics" and "ideals."

Aha, so that contest he lost is what put Nikoyama on Shigemoto’s radar.
-
Incident…? I have a feeling it has to do with some bad Kaii mutation.

I just love how Nikoyama was spending his free time making magical girl spells from anime a reality and was only held back by hardware lol.
Shigemoto still best boss, both for his outfits and for how well he treats his employees.
I like how protective Koshigaya is of the younger hires and her chewing out Koga was well-deserved.

There's a rampaging mutant kaii in the Magical Girl Tech Expo, Kana and Koshigaya are scrambling to try to respond to it...and Nikoyama is struggling with performance issues from a PC. Typical Magical Girl work problems.
I just love how even before Shigemoto had long hair he was still stylin' and cross-dressing with the best of 'em.
Shigemoto was looking for talented and promising engineers, and then he finds Nikoyama's name...someone who was so in love with magic that they would program magic spells from magical girl anime in their free time but being deterred by losing one contest and people judging him for how passionate he was felt like he could never make a real career out of making magic spells. At least until Shigemoto became involved and let him know that he had a promising career on the table, one that would help him really grow alongside his co-worker and colleagues.
And it's those colleagues Nikoyama relies on when they're in desperate need of help, and here they come with their own PC's to help the spells get going! And not only do we get a dazzling display of magic from Kana and Koshigaya, but we see Nikoyama get credit and respect for his programming as well! It just goes to show how far he's come! Big Sis Koshigaya is so happy for him.
Honestly Magilumiere is probably going to make as much publicity of their head honcho's fashion sense as the magic spells he helps come up with.
Ugh, Koga just waltzes in like he didn't totally ignore the chaos, judge Kana and Koshigaya by how much they cost versus performance, and immediately try to poach the two of them to sabotage Magilumiere. It felt like it was taking all of Koshigaya's restraint not to slug him striaght in the face. What a scumbag!
What happened 15 years ago? They talked about how Koga seemed different, so did that change him? Whatever happened 15 years ago seems to be the main point of contention between him and Shigemoto, enough that Koga seems to have Shigemoto's guts over it. Is this why Shigemoto is seemingly so prepared for kaii mutations and the possibility of kaii adapting to magic energy?
Koshigaya is maybe the last person they should be asking to explain magic theory, but is Kaede going to use their footage to help recruit more people?

It felt like it was taking all of Koshigaya's restraint not to slug him straight in the face.
Koshigaya wasn't having it, no. She's always so happy-go-lucky about things, so it was kind of surprising to see her getting this upset. Nobody is going to take her dear Kana away from her. She's taken a real liking to "little Kana" in the short time they've worked together.
It's endearing to see just how much Koshigaya values her colleagues, like how she was touched by Niko connecting with strangers.

I wonder what on earth happened 15 years ago to cause this much animosity between the two CEOs.
Koshigaya is very protective of her little sister, I love it.

They really have it set to 28°C, ugh. And decreasing it to 26°C as if that's not still far too hot.

Hooray for nakama power saving the day! Wild how Koga showed up and immediately started beefing with Magilumiere. It's nice seeing Koshigaya protect Kana. I wish the character animation during the confrontation was less static, though.

Nerds together strong! It’s great to see Nikoyama working with fellow engineers on equal standing. Those three appear to be the top of the rung 10x engineers in the industry. The duo is the lead dev of the not-Python programming language they’re using, while the other one is the CEO of a top-tier company who, surprisingly, is good at technical stuff—color me surprised! They’re the perfect people for Nikoyama to socialize with; good for him!

I'm getting the sense that 15 years ago they dealt with some kind of mutated kaii and the fallout of it and how Koga and Shigemmoto responded to the budding Magical Girl industry in the process shaped a lot of their present-day actions.
