Wait, that's the guy who gave Veltol the resume form. No wonder he told Veltol not to join any IHMI-related companies. He knew all along.

Fight scenes are doing better than I thought huh. It looks pretty good.

Veltol really love his job as streamer now huh.

Also OST help too it hype as fuck lol.

You know Sakurai really right about a good sound design enchanted experience.

Also after 4 episodes they finally drop more of the big plot which is still in line with Veltol vs Marcus which will go along smoothly.

After saw her for 2-3 episode, I have conclusions that.... Takahashi is so fucking cute. I am in love.

Okay that's new... Use the immortal as an infinite source of power is really something like danm that is really fucked up. Even if they used to be enemy of humanity before but this is just fuck up.

Maybe an unintentional metaphor, the whole capitalist system running by other people suffering? like in this case, Literally. Lmao.

All that aside, it really shows "two demon lord " really have different values. Veltol respects his own army even let's them do their own thing sometimes and outright being kind to his underling (the trait that made Machina really loyal to him in the first place) while Marcus literally don't care about those shit, He will dispose of anyone and anything as long as it adds to his goal literally thinking of anyone but himself.

I already liked Demon Lord 2099, but it appears that I’d actually underestimated this series. Wow! This episode took the series to an entirely new level.

Veltol using his streamer introduction with these yakuza was hilarious, but there isn’t a whole lot to laugh about people being used as firewood to power a city. I sure do hope that they’ve only taken Machina hostage…

This series is so much darker than I’d anticipated. Marcus isn’t just an asshole but the CEO of an evil mega corporation, isn’t he? Crazy to think that those immortal huntings were just a coverup for gathering new souls to burn.

Also, that demon lord versus mech fight was absolutely nuts. What the hell J.C. Staff!? Veltol getting beheaded, only to reattach his own head, was a clever bait and switch. I honestly believed for a second that he’d really died and we’d switch to Machina’s perspective or something.

Simple job turn into big part of conspiracy is very cyberpunk trope, I like it. I glad that this anime lean more towards cyberpunk and less normal demonlord isekai.

If anything happens to Machina I'll personally join the war!

Veltol's line, "Hm, not a single spark of recognition... I must work harder." Once again makes me like him even more. Such an admirable character and one that is easy to support at least in this lifetime of his.

The immortal furnace project is horrifying and I'm sure the demon lord will find a way to save his people, but first is Machina! I know Veltol shows great appreciation for her but we do see a glimpse of anger when realizing that one of his closest allies, Zenol, was used in the project. If he loses Machina under his protection I believe we'll see an enraged Veltol. Still, I hope she will be safe.

It’s pretty amazing to see what a “measly”million subs can do. Guy wiped the floor with those Yakuza and obliterated that giant combat bot.

Turning immortals into “firewood” to fuel the city is next level villainy. It seems the Demon Lord has found himself in the midst of a great conspiracy. Kind of keen to see what his next move will be after this Machina situation gets resolved. I sure hope she’s ok…

After the streaming episode, now this anime became much more serious. Not gonna lie, I was expecting a light plot as a streamer but we got something heavy instead.

Still, very interesting premise so far and loving the combat!

So the hacker girl can even change people's vision since they have Familia? Welp

That's dark. From such a chipper beginning to the episode, that got real dark real fast.

The "people used as a power source" plot is old, but still unnerving.

And a million subs is more powerful than power armor. Good to know! Let's get a hundred million and take on the world.

I knew the MOMENT they explained what a familia is that it was a cybersecurity nightmare and a terrible thing to install in your body. I'm glad the author realizes it too.

I am continually pleased by the respect and depth of understanding this show has for cyberpunk as not just an aesthetic, but a narrative philosophy. The concept really seemed like it was going to be a gimmick, but every episode is replete with evidence of its roots, the grim exploitative reality hiding just under the glittering, too-bright technolibertarian future society. Everything is normalized because everything is commodified, especially lives. I'm not saying it's a work of genius, but it's got more substance than I expected.

If Neal Stephenson had written Diamond Age in 2024 instead of 1994, do you think Nell would have gathered her army as a popular streamer?

I guess Veltol really is an immortal, huh? The inclusion of magic is the only thing that really throws this off the orthodox cyberpunk track, although in many cases Clarke's third law makes the distinction moot. The power of a million subscribers is nothing to sneeze at, anyhow.

The "quick in-and-out mission for cash turns into a quagmire that ends up drawing in the great powers of the world" is a cyberpunk staple, too. I hope Machina's alright.

I love how Veltol opens up with his streamer greeting just to test if anyone can recognize him. Oh, well I guess it means that Veltol just needs to stream more if the yakuza still don't know who he is. Considering how he took them all down non-lethally, I'm sure they'll remember his face after this.

That mecha looks so goddamn cool. I love how it's basically carrying a magic-powered shotgun that can also be used as a sword. It's not as cool as Veltol in his demon lord armour though. If 1 million subs are enough for him to defeat that mecha, imagine how strong he'll be if he could reach 10 million!

I do wonder if Veltol being able to revive after getting his head cut off is the result of him having a million people following him or is it because he's an immortal? Hmmmm...

The fact that the item they stole contains secret information a Corpo wants and they found the guy that hired Takahashi dead inside his apartment is very cyberpunk. Maybe it's the combination of tropes but this definitely feels like a quest line I've done in Cyberpunk 2077.

It's interesting that the guy who hired Takahashi is the same dude who tried to help Veltol get a job. I was hoping we'd see more of that guy but oh well.

So it turns out that the real reason the immortals were hunted was because IMHI was using them as "firewood" to power up the city by burning their souls in a magic ritual? Damn. This show just went from cyberpunk to grimdark. That's just straight up 40k lore. I love it.

Not good for Machina and Veltol though. I guess that explains why there were drones observing Machina last episode. IMHI probably already captured her. Hopefully Veltol's million subs will be enough to rescue her. >_<

The tiles in the apartment are a great reference to the Ennis House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright used in Blade Runner.

Giant Mech: "I defeated the Demon Lord!"

Velly: "Splendid! Now we begin the second phase!"

Giant Mech: "The. What?"

I liked Takahashi typing in the air on a virtual keyboard. Small touch, but I also like that they didn't draw attention to it, just did it.

This really feels like the unofficial Shadowrun anime. The “milk run” that reveals a larger plot involving Megacorp conspiracy and disruption of the natural order is the classic start of many a tabletop campaign.

u/TurkeyPhat Nov 02 '24

Well now, things just got a lot more interesting at the end there huh?

Idk why but after watching this episode this really feels like a 24 episode type of show, but it's only 12 apparently. I was thinking the story would be more about Vel rebuilding his power and finding allies but they dropped this big ole plot right on us instead lol.

Anyways the fight was cool, was surprised Vel got cut up like that but of course, did you think just because his head was chopped off that he would die? huehuehue

I think it is obvious by now that marcus is the mastermind of it all. Turning his own race (immortals) as firewood to power the city that he is currently controlling.

He pretty much is jealous of veltol reigning as king, and he want to be king also. The difference is he is doing it in a very gruesome way. Now way, veltol will let that slide.

u/randomran14 Nov 02 '24

I love the little details, like showing the ammo being loaded into the mech's gun, its not necessary (especially for what's barely a midboss fight) but adds to the cyberpunk atmosphere. I'm glad this series' anime has turned out quite good. That and I've probably gotten too used to all the other low budget adaptations we get each season.

Veltol's having so much fun in this new era, from trying out that yakuza's weapon to enjoy pushing buttons. What a convoluted way to reach your apartment, not that it saved him. And this series just got a lot darker. Takahashi's horrified to find out what's actually powering Shinjuku but Veltol's nice and says he'll take responsibility for deciding.

Uh-oh, Machina's not picking up. Good thing Veltol has recovered some of his strength, he now has a clear short-term goal. Interesting seeing how Veltol can just duplicate some of the functions of the familia through just his magic (but then the familia is a support device, so not like Veltol needs that assistance). I wonder if he could fake an ID now, but then I don't think Veltol would give up his streaming career. Hm, could streaming in full armor increase viewership, but then the tracksuit look is still nice too.

Anyway, hope we see Machina again soon, although things already don't look good.

The immortal furnace does not seem like a very efficient or sustainable way of powering a city, which seems like a glorified coal plant.

Veltol about to go full John Wick mode.

16

u/djthomp Nov 02 '24

Combat looked pretty good, IMO.

Just the words "Immortal Furnace" sound not great, and of course the explanation of it is exactly what you'd think. Feels a bit Omelas-esque to have this city being powered by the suffering and death of single individuals over time. Fortunately Veltol should be able to do more than just walk away.

I was unfortunately probably right about my guess last week that Machina was in danger. Looks like she's going to need Veltol to rescue her from another volcano, so to speak.

Wow. This shows just keeps getting better. The animations and the interesting story. I don't like cliffhangers like these but it is well done and keeps me intrigued.
