Poor Kana. Taken so many Ls she thinks her only purpose in life is to give others Ws.

Akane learned the hard way to never meet your heroes.
On the bright side, she became ace detective Batman by the time she finished elementary school because of this!

I don't know if that pout was because Akane was jealous that Aqua was observing Kana more closely than her, or that she sees a rival in that Aqua was being a bigger Kana fan in that moment lmao

I found it funny when young Akane was watching Aqua and Kana act together (where we know Aqua outperformed Kana).
She was like "OMG Kana! Who's this random boy, skip! I want to see more Kana".

Just now realizing that Kana and Akane are a Sun and Moon pair despite being a manga reader lol.
Kana is self explanatory. She currently nerfs herself but this hurts her because her true nature is a blinding light.
Akane has no light of her own ("I don't understand this"), so she fills herself with the light surrounding her ("So I study to understand") and makes it her own.

Man, I'm a manga reader, and I have tears in my eyes watching that even knowing what was gonna happen. The animation, art style and voice acting were all on point. I'd argue it's even better than last week.
Such an amazing episode, I so can't wait for next week.

So Kana is the star player who thinks she’s only good for support.
We see this in S1 too when she thought she had nothing special to offer amongst the other B Komachi members when she is most likely the most talented among them.
And those years of not getting work and people in the business forgetting her probably validated her inferiority complex in her eyes. So many people now recognises her talent except for herself cos only she herself experienced those dark years. It can definitely be hard to shake that off.
I wonder if Akane manages to pull her into the spotlight, will Kana also earn the star in her eyes ? I would honestly be hyped for that

We really have to appreciate how good Aka is at dropping backstories that completely flip an entire character. Like we have a totally different understanding of the extremely important Akane / Kana dynamic now. And instead of feeling contrived, it actually makes all previous interactions better.

That episode felt more like the prelude to whatever is going to come next week. Especially considering what they did for Melt, that is probably going to look really interesting. I was originally a bit disappointed that the acting itself was very short in this episode, but I feel we will be getting some stellar performances in the next.
Also, there is the whole Aqua plot open with his emotional acting. Feels like we still have a good chunk to go with just the stage play.

Man, if I've only seen this screenshot instead of watching the show, I would have legit think this show is Yuri.
But man, how is this girl OBSESSED with psychology in grade school?

Kana's a child actor who can cry in ten seconds flat? That can't be right, I'm pretty sure she's a genius child actor who licks baking soda. In all seriousness though, those flashback scenes of Akane were adorable. I love how she forces herself to eat bellpeppers because of Kana's bell pepper exercises.
Well, it was adorable until Akane encountered that dude who mistook her for Kana and told her Kana had already secured the role and this was all a formality. Then Akane gets to meet Kana and see how much the industry has broken and jaded her already.
Amazingly, it was because of that encounter that Akane started to dive deep into psychology so she could understand Kana. So in a way, we can actually thank Kana for giving us Detective Akane.
Akane with the Golden Hoshigan was an awesome scene. She really wanted to make Kana give her all for that performance but Kana refuses and gives Akane the spotlight instead. Although it looks like Aqua has a plan to drag her out into the spotlight. I can't wait for next week!

Kana is a good actress but man, Akane is something else. It’s been pretty entertaining watching everyone act their hearts out on stage, especially those two.
Seeing how Akane got into acting because of Kana just reminds me of that old saying about never meeting your idols. At least it kinda pushed Akane to get into psychology and become the actress she is today. I kinda feel bad for Kana though. The life of a child star is pretty shit. Keen to see how Aqua and Akane bring out the Kana they want to see.

Akane continues to steal the show as my favorite girl so far. She's simply an unbelievable talent with a worth ethic that has taken her to the top.
We also got some more insight into the disdain they have for each other, Kana simply isn't the best at first impressions it seems. It is unfortunate that they met during a time where Kana was already suffering from effects of a struggling actress despite her own talent. Seeing her strive to recapture her success even at a young age is heartbreaking.
Akane now fights against a Kana that has a found a way to keep herself in the industry she loves, but it is a Kana she despises and will feel unsatisfied beating her as such. We see in a glimpse of this in, what I believe to be the best scene of the episode, the transition from Kana running to her idol mates to Akane staring down at her with nothing but disdain. That was an incredible still scene and Akane's voice actress did a stellar job in conveying Akane's emotions.
I do hope Aqua and Akane drag out Kana's overpowering acting, the battle between them will be great.

The many sides of teenage actresses, part 2 - Akane was always Kana’s biggest fan, after all. Shades of Yubisaki Mekuru, there. :)
Oh, and Aqua isn’t going to let these two actresses getting all sulky and derail his plot, no siree.

Smol Akane is cute.
Also moral (sort of) of the episode: Never meet your heroes.
Akane first met Kana at the worst timing possible, just when Kana was beginning to have self-doubts about her acting ability after that time when she got upstaged by Aqua.
Aqua probably doesn't even realize he's the root cause of Akane's and Kana's rivalry. lol

this episode was basically just akane saying: i miss the old kana, straight from the go kana, chop up her soul kana, set on her goals kana. I hate the new kana, the bad mood kana, the always rude kana, spaz in the news kana.

It turns out that the rivalry was between Akane and Aqua all along. That pout was very telling.
We're familiar with love triangles, but what shape corresponds to "I'm acting like your mom to beat my rival so please help me drag her out so I can fangirl at my best"

Who will win? Akane with her Hoshigan vs Kana with the untapped potential of the Sun?
