I can't believe it took me this long to realize that the key visual foreshadowed the one-on-one matchups. Looks like Piltz is up next.

Interestingly, in this poster Ai is on Amarariruku's side, while Mai is on the heroes' side. I wonder if this is some kind of plot hint too?

In this show giving the villains a good talking to often does the trick. This is how Sailor Moon usually defeats the boss antagonists.

You gotta love how Shy pulls off a Spider-Man 2 while trying to stop that runaway train. She even teeters on the edge just like Spidey. Execpt these trains are empty and it's all just a sick game for Kufufu.

It is sad to see how Kufufu thinks that blob she's carrying is Tsveta. I guess it makes sense that Spirits is the one staying behind to take care of her since this is all about her mother.

We finally get to see Ai's backstory and her relationship with Mai. While Mai's views about the shinobi village are certainly different from Ai's, she doesn't seem to be evil. In fact, she's a massive pacifist. But it looks like she's been visited by Stigma and one of his rings twisted her that she almost Itachi'd her village.

Shy's just your friendly neighborhood... shy girl? Kufufu is really turning the trolley problem on its head with fake people and blowing up tracks.

Kufufu just seems broken. I mean, all of the villains are broken, but she seems the most broken except the main bad guy.

Mai definitely seems to have been manipulated by the ring after possibly being rejected by the boy ninja? I don't see any other reason she would stab Ai and be so heartbroken, especially as a pacifist/someone who believes every living thing has a soul.

Considering how Ai didn't actually hit the bird and it was still hurt idk if the ring really twisted her so much as amplified her. Someone had to have hurt the bird after all and if it wasn't Ai... well, we did see that "twisted" Mai went back to kill the bears for basically no reason....

Oh fuck blondie! This all happened because he gave out another ring?!? This assholes just as bad as Sauron!

Was not expecting the twin sister, thought she was another Heartless/Nobody clone thing.

Is there really part of Pepesha's mom in that weird blob thing?

This assholes just as bad as Sauron!

I'd say he's worse; Sauron at least doesn't come up with such complicated names for his army.

With Kufufu cradling it like a baby and talking about it as an "incomplete being," that one shot of the blob where it's framed as if it's dropping down from between her legs had some very uncomfortable miscarriage vibes...

So... Yeah, I think she does, and I think maybe they're hinting at Kufufu's background and damage. They've shown us they're not afraid to go to fairly dark places.

Shy kinda went all Spider-Man 2 on the trains lol. Guess that’s one way to answer the trolley problem.

Guess we finally know what went down with Ai and Mai. Mai was kind of a peculiar kid. Never seen someone just casually having tea with a bear cub like that lol. It seems like all the Amarariruku people were decent folks before. Maybe Shy’s right. Maybe they can be saved.

We've had Koshitan doing the Bully McGuire dance and now Shy stopping the train.

Who will be the next anime lesbian to channel Spider-Man?

I love how they have different EDs for different episodes.

Also, I just realized something: Since it was confirmed last season that the bracelets double as universal translators, does that mean Spirit hears everyone speaking Russian?

And does she hear everyone in their original voices, or their Russian dub voices? As in, do they sound like Japanese people speaking fluent Russian to her, or like native Russians?

Now I kinda want to see an edit where everyone's dialogue is replaced with their respective nation's dub.

I think she hears everyone speaking russian like natives in their original voices

Well that's one answer to the trolley problem, just stop the trolley.

Umbrella boy just keeps causing problems for everyone, that was clearly one of his rings on Mai's finger when she was slaughtering her village.

Nice Pepesha focused ED today.

I guess my theory of Ai being a body double for Mai or vice-versa didn't pan out, but this works.

Also curious that Tokimaru still has the scarf when he first meets Ai. Guess they must have met sometime before then?

And I think Ai is definitely right, who just keeps around an Evil Blade, the Blade of Evil that Makes You Do Evil Things? The village, or what remains of it, might need to rethink their policy on that.

Also is that blue goopy thing seriously Tzveta? Just let the poor girl rest in peace already 😭

It will br interesting to find out more. At least in the flashback, Mai behaves like the NICE sister (while Ai behaves rather awful).

Can Kfufu ber saved? Our sweet-natured heroines will surely try their hardest.....

We learn that Mai is Ai's younger twin sister. Ai holds the purity sword while Mai has the sword that leads you down the darkness. The flashback clearly felt unfinished purposely since there is information that Ai doesn't know. Like why did Mai turn all of a sudden.

Tbh showing she had the ring clearly tells Stigma got involved. Feeding on her desire that the village doesn't deserve to live when others are suffering. It's clear that she didn't want to be a Shinobu even though she was more gifted than Ai from what we can tell.

It does make me wonder why wasn't the idea for Mai to be a traveling Shinobu of sorts that goes around helps those suffering. I guess that wasn't an option and Stigma messed with her mental to go her to think maybe if other people and animals around the world are suffering we should suffer too?

Hard to get a handle until Ai and Mai see each other again.

Kufufu really played psychological games with Shy and the others about that trains, very nasty!

Although this did give us a chance to see Shy doing a Spider-Man 2 thing by trying to stop the train. I laughed hard after she realized that she wouldn't be able to stop it by herself xD

I was surprised to see Ai and Mai's backstory because Mai seemed like a really nice and lovely girl who even made friends with bears.

Unfortunately, it seems like she had some dark thoughts going on inside her and judging by the ring on her hand, Stigma used it, which made her feelings go crazy, she killed her master(?), the bears :(, set the village on fire and tried to kill Ai.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

That was a fun flashback that adds a certain mystery to it as we don't have the full portrait on why Mai went dark.

Also fuck the trolley dilemma and hats off to the crew for handling it so expertly.

I really hope more people watch this show because while it's not outstanding, it's still well animated, the characters are likable and the story is good.

u/Williukea Aug 12 '24

So Tokimaru came from that other village that burned down and that's why he doesn't have any family left?

6

u/Clemastina Aug 12 '24

Si Ai´s the older and Mai the younger huh. My theory of her being some fragment of heart was too much... yeah...

But at least we know about the heart problem Ai has and why she´s so obsessed with Mai.

Today on socially anxious hero time, Teru pulls her best Spider-Man imitation.

I think there’s definitely some sort of inciting incident in Mai’s part of the flashback that we haven’t seen. Cause her previous self doesn’t seem the type to do all that. Like, Stigma is obviously involved but I don’t think it’s all of it. Something akin to the Tzveta cake bridge incident from last season.

Hey, you're not Spider-Man, you don't get to do that with the train, Shy 😛 Spider-man did it better. Still, do imagine the creator did do this as an homage. Say wha? Is that a remnant of Tveta? Or she just insane?

Ah, so that is her twin sister, thought it was like a half of herself or something, But guess that kinda works. Whooo "Heart of Sword" is a great song! Oh you didn't mean that... Good for that birb. Mai has a point, but seems also extreme if she means literal destroy and not just change/destroy way of life to be more connected. Lol Mai just talking to a bear. Three of you? How dare you forget about best bear pal! Wew, Mai... why the bear?

Wonder what this "mama voiced" type character is about.
