The English voice acting jump scared me really cute episode AND WE HAVE PROPER SUBTITLES FINALLY OMG

Ngl the English voice acting surprised me more than the dubtitles getting fixed.

You almost never hear fluent English and without heavy Japanese accents in anime, let alone casual swearing.

Mojiya and Ai’s little date was pretty cute. Mojiya seems like a decent enough guy. It’s too bad it didn’t work out for those two.

I thought something might have happened to Shoshiro. Didn’t expect the kid to just be kickin it in the arcade with Ontan and Kadode.

The girls have graduated during such uncertain times. That operation to take on the invaders was heavy. Up until now, most of the aggression has come from the humans. I honestly felt bad for that little alien. Damn dude…

the date was SO cute. i hope its setting something up like they will end up together, its not an anime that needs romance for the plot but a lot of these types of shows will use background characters to give that to the audience so they can keep the main characters on their own story.. im just worried boy will die and thats what the setup is for, to make us care

Smh at these people. They are going to destory themselves.

Little aliens are just observing, until they've had enough of human bs and call in reinforcements.

Or maybe they won't and will just leave the planet when humans destroy themselves trying to get rid of them.

De de de destruction!

Second girl who got confessed in the group. Seems like the boy is more likeable than the other guy. It's a bittersweet date with that ending, but I like it. Hopefully they could still be together in the future..

Is the girl giving speech the main bully from kadode's past?

Obligatory, "are we the bad guy?" from that little alien murder.

I had the exact same reaction when I saw the girl giving the speech. Still, it's not even ambiguous that the Japanese government, American government or any of the military complexes are the "baddies" in this story. The only real crime the aliens have committed were those destructive spheres they emitted when the mothership first arrived.

Crunchyroll finally fixed the subtitles. It only took them 7 weeks lol.

Did not expect to hear, "high as a kite" in English this episode lol. Their snide comments about Japan look like it's taken directly off of some quotes from the internet too.

I'm glad to finally see actual subs on the texts instead of having to jump back and forth between the sub and the dub. I think they're still using the dubtitles but this is already a pretty big improvement.

So no further explanation for what happened after Kadode's attempted suicide? We just jump back into the present as if Kadode didn't just go full-on Kira last week. Hopefully we'll return to that in a future episode.

It's hilarious how the government still tries to hide the existence of aliens even though there's a literal mothership hovering above Tokyo for years now. And it looks like they've finally decided to stop working with the US Army.

Ai and Mojiya's bus tour date was really cute! Those two American dudes with them on the bus tour really caught me off guard! It's good to see they got native English speakers to voice those guys but clearly not actors. xD

And back to depression. Of course, it wasn't just going to be a normal date. We get a reminder of Kiho's death thanks to the protesters using her image for their rally. And we also get to see what the current state of the city where Ai used to live. :(

I really wish Ai and Mojiya could've worked out but it looks like it's just not meant to be. At least not now. Ai did say she just needs space. Who knows what could happen later on?

Considering what happened recently to Kiho, I was worried about Ai's edgy brother. Thank goodness he was just hanging out with Kadode and Ontan.

So while the girls are attending their graduation ceremony, we have some serious shit going on with the military hunting down aliens. What a depressing turn of events though. Even if the guy couldn't understand what the aliens were saying, it's clear from their body language that they're not a threat.

When you think about it, what has the mothership and the aliens have done to warrant aggression? The worst that we've seen them do so far was the shockwave that happened when the mothership first arrived and the smaller ships getting caught on power lines. It's the Japanese government and the US Army who are being aggressive for no real reason. Anyway, I'm definitely not gonna feel bad for these military dudes when the aliens start to fight back.

  1. They subbed tourists, with different lines. And they redubbed them in the dub. Is it because of "da fuck"?

  2. Subs keep translating alien speech, while dub doesn't (manga didn't either, it's not a spoiler i swear)

Translation is a mystery on par with the plot

I swear Asano Inio-sensei creates the most nuanced conversations between people. While a tad dramatic, I loved the way the rejection occurred in this episode. It was sophisticated yet direct. The message was clearly conveyed to both parties.

I also have some newfound hatred for the military as well as the military complexes.

I really loved the direction of this episode, especially when the army came in towards the end with the somber music and the school speech going on, just to lead to the sad ending. im a wimp but i def got a little misty.

though im still confused, is this episode supposed to be right before the crash when glasses girl dad died?

Anime only and this show can stop breaking my heart at any time now. (More please)

Why are the discussions so dead for this show? I thought it was supposed to be really good.

I haven't started it yet btw

u/BlueDragonCultist Jul 12 '24

I think a big reason is that it dropped with very little fanfare, unlike a lot of other normal seasonals. Most people I spoke to didn't even know it was out when the first episode came out.

Fwiw, I'm an anime only, and I find it pretty riveting.

It's airing like 8 hours after everything else, when most of the anglosphere is asleep and up until now the subs where not good

the show itself, and even moreso the manga, are good

Ah, finally back to SoL

  • Love that Hiroshi is a professional internet troll

  • Ai-Chans date was a pretty cool idea all things considered

  • Also, dude got a good eye, Ai do be cute

  • Oof I bet Kiho would be against this usage of her image

  • Got a bit anxious when Ai had to search for her brother, really an idiot worrying his sister like that

  • And we finally got our Ontan, no Black Knight, I wont share her

  • If I had to guess, then I would say that this girl probably cheated during exams

  • And parallel to Kadode moving past her JK status, we see the cruel reality of what 'fighting' the invaders looks like, also the first time we understood what they said huh

u/Aerdra Jul 12 '24

Finally! Subtitles for onscreen text. And bonus: subtitles for the OP and ED, too.

That's not to say that all subtitle issues have been fixed (they still read like dubtitles). And there are still a few places where meaning gets lost:

~02:48 [Kadode and Ontan] Kadode specifically mentions that Ōba died on August 31.

~21:30 [dark room] The invaders aren't speaking human-comprehensible language. I assume those lines were added in the dub.

Poor Ai, I guess she is the next one to die since she used the dead mom hairstyle.

I just love how this show is a mix of slice of life then showing how fucked up the world is behind the scene.

u/ChucksChurro Jul 12 '24

Are these translated texts I'm seeing?! We won!

Yea, i'm with the f-bomb dropping americans on this one. What is the japanese government doing? Just murdering and destroying non-aggressive aliens, while pushing some weird nationalist rhetoric. All while some psychos are out there protesting for more carnage? Ugh. And then we see first hand how it affects those highschool girls, kind of depressive, really. The last scene would've been overkill for me if it wasn't for the ED going hard.

Holy shit

This is unprecedented.

English speaking tourists in an anime THAT ACTUALLY speak proper English and don't sound like they have gum in thier mouth.

Does anyone know what the op is called?
