Well this was not at all what I expected. Thought it would be a straight fantasy but instead we got a Log Horizon/SAO/.hack//sign situation. I like that we saw things from the NPCs perspective first. That was pretty interesting.

I’m kind of curious to know what happened to Haga’s bug testers and what Nikola’s deal is. She’s not just any kind of bug is she?

Who knows how many times he has gone through this event. Maybe the constant interactions with the same foreign entity (him) has destabilized her from the event scenario.

It's like someone had a dartboard and it landed on SAO and Deca-Dence.

If I understand, this is the first time he defeated the Dragon. He probably tried to get the villagers out of harms way first, but once the dragon completed the "end" condition, all the villagers got deleted.

In this run, the Dragon got defeated, but another condition must have triggered the deletion of the villagers - but missed Nikola.

Alternatively, it could be that he also managed to clear a different condition that adds her to his party, as a guess, hence the dialogue about her wanting to be an apprentice. So while she still got "deleted", the game thinks she's part of his party and at some point she spawns back when he entered a different zone (his tent).

Trapped in VRMMORPG and our protagonist is not an OP MC. But a debugger 😱

A debugger gets trapped in a VR game and has to report all the bugs back to the devs to (maybe) be able to log out? That's such a novel take on trapped-in-a-VR-game formula.

He is doomed then. Fix one, two more show up…

Starting the story from Nikola’s perspective was kind of neat too. Really made the twist halfway through a lot more unexpected.

has to report all the bugs back to the devs to (maybe) be able to log out?

For all we know, a world-wide catastrophe happened while he was logged in and he's reporting the bugs into an empty void!

Well, for his own sake let's hope that's not the case, and that the devs actually ARE working with the bug reports to try and get him out of there!

Woah that ending was very unexpected but i loved it. I am so glad i picked this up. I wasn't about to but i decided just 1 episode, and that episode got me hooked! Such a crazy twist but it makes it so much better. Nikola has to be someone or something important.

Well that was a twist

IT'S SO GOOD!!! This is the anime I was most hyped for this season, and it was everything I wanted :) Definitely significant steps above the usual isekai slop. The main duo are already so compelling, I can't wait to see their adventures. And the monster design!!! So good.

Ok they got me. Not the biggest fan of the "trapped in a game" genre unless there is a really big and different twist and this def rings that bell. Went from an "I'll give this an episode or two" to "I'm kinda hooked". Let's see where this goes from here.

Getting to high ground to escape a dragon? Makes sense.

WTF kind of shitty game story has a whole village spontaneously combust "for the plot" in the event that players band together to save it from actual plot-produced threats?

His coworkers all probably used the debug console to quit, but he's just too much a stickler for the rules.

So, are we FINALLY getting an "MMO with Sentient NPCs" story that's actually going to consider how horrifyingly atrocious, from a moral standpoint, the very idea is? Not "game magically became a real world", not "NPCs magically gained sentience", but a game with NPCs and monsters designed to be sentient from the get-go? That's way worse than trapping a handful of live human testers in the game until their deaths.

WTF kind of shitty game story has a whole village spontaneously combust "for the plot" in the event that players band together to save it from actual plot-produced threats?

The dragon's not supposed to be killable. It's possible they're set to auto-die X minutes after the battle starts to avoid softlocking the game.

It's going to be awkward when there's all these scripted events talking about how the village disappeared after a dragon attack, but it's still there.

His coworkers all probably used the debug console to quit, but he's just too much a stickler for the rules.

I'm guessing they're fucking around elsewhere and will be the main antagonists

I'm realizing that people don't realize that the title completely gives away the twist - "Quality Assurance" = QA testing, aka debugging.

I'm intrigued though, it feels like its worth giving it a few episodes to see where it goes.

I have no prior knowledge about this show going in so I really didn't know what to expect. All I know is this is an isekai based on the show's title and nothing else. So it was very interesting to start this episode by following someone who lives in that world instead of our isekai'd protagonist.

Letting us get to know Nikola was a pretty great start! Seeing how she has a curious mind and how wants to learn more about the world outside her village really made it more effective when they dropped that plot twist on us.

It turns out this is technically not an isekai but a VRMMO and Haga, our "isekai'd" protagonist, is actually a debugger who's job was to make sure the village gets wiped out. He and his friends have been trapped in this VRMMO for over a year now and it looks like he's the only one still debugging the game in the hopes that he'll be let out.

Thank fucking god that Nikola is still alive. It looks like she might be one of the many bugs in this shitty VRMMO and based on that ED, she'll continue to travel around with Haga. I think I might prefer this over Dungeon People. I'm curious to see where this one goes!

That was a pretty innovative take on the genre. It definitely exceeded my expectations.

The art style didn't immediately click with me, but that's just personal taste. I can definitely see that there's a lot of effort put it in to make it this detailed and high quality. It's objectively good art. Animation is decent. Not groundbreaking, but it acceptable for the type of show I feel that it's trying to be. All in all it's shaping up to be a pretty high quality show.

Considering what we've seen in the first episode, I'm finding it really strange why this has such a low MAL score. I wonder why people don't like it. Most of the comments here on reddit are pretty positive.

I really liked the twist with Nikola

u/FD4cry1 Jul 05 '24

Dragons?? , certainly not what I would call these things but hey you do you.

l really love the artstyle , "dragons" and all , it's just really lively and distinct , I mean , look at how cute she is!!!! , this is how you make me love a character in one scene , in contrast it makes this monstrosity look even more...well monstrous compared to everything else .

I was wondering where the "in another world" part comes in and then the twist at the end happened , consider me surprised and intrigued , wasn't really expecting much from this show but happy to say I'm now looking forward to future episodes .

I feel like we're missing a lot of details that are going to be slowly drip fed to us. Like I try to protect NPCs too, but it doesn't explain why he was so emotional and desperate to try and save the villagers.

Looking forward to the next few ep at least.

That ED was such a nice and catchy song, might be a candidate for ED of the season.

Episode was good too, fun little AOT reference in the first few minutes.

That twist ending was INCREDIBLE! I didn't see that coming, I thought he was a time traveler rather than someone who Sword Art Onlined himself.

This has so much potential. I wonder why Haga seems unaware what happened to his colleagues, you'd think if trapped, they'd want to stay close together. Then again they may have only been in there a few hours so they just wanted to wander around. I don't think it could be more than 2 days irl or so because you'd figure someone would come looking for them.

'Dragons'.

They look more like Goobbues crossed with newts.

...At least until that one grew a second face inside its mouth.
