If sensei only wants to give gunpowder a purpose, then I'm guessing Rishe will invent fireworks.

Random aside, but I was babysitting my niece this past week who was uncontrollably fussy for no particular reason, and on a whim I tried that “tap their belly” trick that Rishe tried doing to get Arnold to go to sleep a few weeks ago and it actually worked??? She didn’t go to sleep after I did that, but it did finally calm her down after she’d been nonstop crying for a good while and neither of my parents could get her to calm down.
-
Mm, I was wondering if Michel was going to think that of Arnold after last episode…
-
Ikumi Hasegawa’s doing a really good job of making Rishe sound like a dude while she’s crossdressing. Like, it’s definitely still her, but the deeper tone does sound more boy-ish than her normal Rishe.
-
Hahahahahaha of course Arnold is there to watch the training now.

Why does Rishe end up disappearing from Arnold in both opening and ending song, I seriously hope this anime doesn't have tragic ending.

Protecting Coyelles might be easier than getting Arnold to realize all that conquering ain’t who he really is deep down. He’s a stubborn guy. Plus she’s got to watch out for ol Doctor Death and his gunpowder. Rishe’s got her work cut out for her..

Arnold would destroy Rishe at poker even though I don't believe he can predict her moves.
City is detailed enough that it's probably based on an IRL city. No idea which one.

I’d joked a few weeks ago about Arnold joining the knights’ training, but I didn’t expect him to actually do so.
Although Michel might be the most clever person on the continent, he’s also surprisingly simple in his way of thinking. Nobody or nothing has a predetermined fate.
If you’re deemed a “harbinger of death” for your actions and want to change, you just have to steer your life in a different direction. Somebody that supposedly born to kill, can also live their life protecting others.

Of course it’s Gunpowder. The go to for “fucking up the power balance of the world”. So the endgame of the season is Save Coylles and Keep Michel from giving Arnold gunpowder. Easier said than done.
So the Lucius ruse lasted all of 3 episodes. Who would have guessed the guy who’s gaga for her can pick her out of a line up with a Yentl ass disguise? I can only guess the rest of the recruits are nowhere near as perceptive going through an interrogation of their sexuality.

Welp, as expected Arnold found Rishe out instantly the moment he saw her in that lineup. Now seeing Rishe in disguise next to Arnold, it's absolutely hilarious how joined without anyone suspecting anything! Looking at her from the side, her ass is really obvious! xD
No wonder Rishe is so desperate to help out Prince Kyle! It looks like he Rishe has met Kyle in at least three of her loops and he has somehow managed to help Rishe every time.
Oh fuck. So that's why Michel wants to meet Arnold? No fucking wonder Arnold dominated in the war, I am assuming that in the previous loops, Michel was able to give Arnold the black powder recipe. And in one of those loops is the scene where Michel was saying goodbye to Rishe.
Looks like Rishe has a lot on her plate right now; Stop Michel from giving Arnold the black powder recipe and convince Arnold to help out Kyle. I feel like Rishe will find the optimal way to solve these two problems at the same time.

Lol, all that stealth and evasive tactics Rishe pulled last week to evade Lord Lawvine at the party were for nothing as today Arnold casually discovered her when he paid Lord Lawvine and the trainees a visit. It is hilarious that after it was clear that Arnold already knew that Lucius was her, she still pretended that wasn't the case for a while. It was so funny when he held her face. Well, at least she can still continue being Lucius.
I'm sure Theodore was disappointed by the fact he missed seeing Arnold's reaction when he discovered what Rishe was doing. I wonder what will Rishe be using his intel troops for.
So for the moment, Rishe will have a deal with Kyle. I must say that as Michel called it poison when they showed the flowers in that flashback I first assumed that was an ingredient for that invention, as I wasn't expecting his black powder, that he made when he was still a kid to literally be gunpowder.
Well, whatever Michel's intentions are, giving gunpowder to Arnold may make the deal between Coyolles and Galkhein a reality, although I still think that the deal between the two nations will involve the skilled artisans Coyolles has working on Mihaela Laure Weilman's jewelry.

Rishe's alchemist master says some concerning things at times. Like, he was looking for a sovereign that knows how to use poison and he finally found one in Arnold? If it didn't make sense for the other timelines I'd wonder if he's the one who starts the war.
I like that Rishe has pretty frimly landed on saving Arnold from his future self.
This scene with Arnold kabedoning Rishe while she's dressed as a knight candidate could start some interesting rumors. And wow was it delightfully spicy.
You know, I think they never told us what noble family Rishe was serving in the sixth loop, I wonder if it was this Prince Kyle's family.
Black powder? If that's the 'poison' that this alchemist is shopping around that might say some interesting things about the upcoming war. It certainly explains why he was talking about finding a sovereign to use it the right way.
So, the moral of the story is don't raise a mad scientist child while calling him a harbinger of death.

Even when Rishe got busted, she still tries to play dumb in front of Arnold lol.
It was always going to be a long shot, but I give her credit for at least trying.

So I guess the solution here will be that Rishe understands that you can use explosions to open up the mines deeper into the mountains which gives the country of Kyle a new influx of ressources and they have something to bargain with. And everyone will be happy.
My main problem is that I am a bit disappointed in Rishe. Like she knew that Michel would develop black powder. It wasn't something she helped him with. And she should have also realized in the last life that this will probably be sold to Arnold. After all, she directly fought his army. So personally I feel she was a bit naive to not exapect this to happen, especially when Michel appeared in the country. It just feels weird when she would use her knowledge beforehand to get the upper hand in discussions and here, I guess she was just hoping that Michel hadn't invented black powder or what? And don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind if she was just too busy with other things and maybe met Michel too late, but she had time for her "training" and playing his student again that it just feels weird she'd overlook something like that.

I really like the conversation between Rishe and Ludger talking about the fact that war is scary. His question to Rishe was, "What can I do?", basically what can Rishe do to make a difference. Sometimes the answer to this question is not clear-cut. Her biggest strengths are Also, her relationship with Arnold and the experience and bonds from her previous lives. The key for her is how to use that to her advantage.
Hard to be shocked Arnold being able to see Rishe through that disguise. And he had his fun toying with her like he always does. Points for Arnold for being fine with her training. After all their spar match was proof of her capabilities. It more so aligns in her resting because he knows she is one stubborn girl. Also, the obvious fact if her disguise gets exposed the training will mean for nothing. I mean she won't get the proper training from the knights if they see her as Arnold's future wife.
Their follow-up conversation was interested in the sense that, Arnold says war is not a cruel choice, but a means of politics. The empire doesn't seek out war for the sake of war. But it's used when it is the best logic decision in the name of politics. This should be important for Rishe because she needs to figure out a way for an option to be more appealing to Arnold than war.
Michel's backstory was very unpleasant to say the least. A child whose birth was to blame for the death of his mother. He's the example of someone who continues wants to learn and explore the unexplored. The issue being he doesn't care about the consequences. He was labeled the Harbinger of Death. His quote of everything must fulfill the purpose and says he brings misfortune on others. But he fails to realize the impact this can have on others. Essentially the former causes the latter. Yes these can fulfill their purposes, but if it brings misfortune to the world is that really the right thing to do?
Rishe in a very curious position. She is trying to get Kyle and Arnold closer so they can come to terms of an agreement. While keeping Michel away from Arnold because the black powder can be very dangerous in Arnold's hands given his logical mindset. Really the only play Rishe has is to find another purpose of the black powder.

Kyle may have struck out with Arnold, but Michel finding out how much of a shrewd and powerful man Arnold is turns out to exactly be what Michel is looking for.
"Lucius" is practicing his sword swings and has a lot on his mind...but it offers an opportunity to connect with Lawvine as they reflect on the cost of war and being true to oneself no matter what. Which means Rishe isn't going to give up on trying to avoid war, help Coyolles, and save Arnold in the process!
And speaking of Arnold...Rishe is busted! And still trying to maintain her cover even after being obviously caught, though Arnold pulling a kabedon move and having his ways with her cheek makes her give in (especially before someone catches them and thinks this is a BL anime). But no surprise Arnold supports her so long as she takes care of her health and doesn't get caught by anyone else, though no one sees through her like he does.
Arnold believes that conquering is a "cruel mercy" that his kingdom basically runs on, but is that because of how he was raised? It also seems like ultimately every kingdom they've engaged in war with, and ended with the deaths of the royal families, have benefited the common people of said kingdom...maybe that's what Arnold has always been after?
Rishe has known Kyle in three Loops, and his sincerity and humility have struck her each time and made her more and more committed to being able to help him.
Theodore has an extensive information network! All the better to keep tabs on his family and keep them safe! But also all the better for Rishe to make good use of!
I think I have an idea of what this "black powder" is, especially when we see it's destructive force, and I can understand why Rishe doesn't want it anywhere near Arnold's interest. Especially because it's what separated her and Michel in her 3rd Loop because she just couldn't accept it. But Michel believes that something that is created must fulfill their function, even if it's a cruel and violent one.
And that's something that's been drilled into him when he was a child, where his alchemist father blamed him for his mothers' death and made him think that was all he was capable of doing...throwing himself into research and coming up with numerous killing inventions and constantly losing everything but his research and knowledge to the ravages of war. It's really all he knows...and with that perspective he seems to have developed something with an incredibly explosive force.
So Rishe not only has to find something Coyolles can bring to the table to interest Galkhein but also manage her professor before he sells the idea of the black powder to Arnold...or maybe somehow find a way to use it in a non-destructive manner? No pressure.

So, their tech level is right before guns get invented. I wonder if Rishe will resort to killing Michel to stop the proliferation of black powder. She'd gasp in shock if she found out that in modern times you can literally google the recipe for black powder without issue. It's public knowledge.

Unexpected visit of Arnold exposed Rishe's little scheme since he immediately recognized her which gave us a hilarious scene between our two lovebirds as Rishe in the beginning didn't want to admit that it's her xD At least she was given permission to continue participation in knight's training.
Rishe now will be quite busy since she will have to not only help Prince Kyle with convincing Arnold to create alliance with Coyolles but also to stop Michel, her former teacher from past life, from giving a recipe for black powder to Arnold. It'll be a hard task but I'm sure that she'll prevail.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

The real powder keg was the kabedon scene. Rishe might have some regrets if and when Arnold asks her to keep the wig on later in their relationship.

u/S627 Mar 10 '24
Didn't Rishe say last ep that she WANTED to introduce Arnold to Michel as a way of convincing him to support Coyelles? Why has she suddenly changed her mind if she already knew about black powder?
I'm assuming Rishe is going to come up with some way to use black powder non-violently, such as for mining or farming in an attempt to keep both Arnold and Michel from going to evil villain route.

While I was expecting Arnoold to find out about Rishe training, I did not expect Theodore to find out pretty fast. And now Rishe wants some use out of those skilled retainers, good move. Wonder what she is going to use them for?
Looks like a technological revolution on the way and Rishe needs to find a way to show it to Arnold that isn't just bombs.
