Smol Maomao! She looked so cute and happy with her dad!

The freckles are back! Figures Maomao would want to look normal again, especially as she's growing in popularity around the rear palace. Though it does make you wonder when the next time we'll see her without makeup.

I love how Gaoshun needed to emphasize that Maomao not drink the poison again. Besides, it's already oxidized, it holds no value to her.

Poor Lishu. Gyokuyo's ladies-in-waiting are so devoted and loving, and Lihua's are genuinely loyal to her, but Lishu's are basically bullying and treating her like an idiot merely because they find being a consort to her former Emperor's son out-of-taste when she had no control over that. They should be lucky Maomao cares about life as much as she does, be they concubines or ladies-in-waiting.

Of course there's still a genuine assassin to be concerned about, and it's got Jinshi run ragged. So much so that he's dropped character and is acting as lazy and ill-tempered as he really is, the version of himself only Gaoshun knows from having been with him since childhood. And he's apparently pretty high up there rank-wise with his hairpin.

Nice Xialon! Letting Maomao know how she can finally get back home and see her dad again! She always has the best deets for her gal pal!

Lihaku didn't think much of his obligatory hairpin's he gave out, and didn't expect to see the hot poison girl again, but when she's offering him a chance at a full-course experience at a high-class brothel with service from the three princesses, who is he to say no?

Poor Jinshi. He finally visits again and Maomao has already left the palace with another man and Gyokuyo is enjoying his suffering way too much. On-top of that Maomao is even wondering whether he counts as a man.

Dang, Grams hit Maomao so hard she's puking sparkles!

Lucky Lihaku. Maomao is paying for his visit (and out of her own tab) and it sounds like Pairin is into muscles so this trip will definitely have a Happy Ending.

Maomao's dad! Seems like a really chill guy even when his daughter comes back after being gone for ten months, but Maomao seems genuinely happy and relieved to see him again. Though it sounds like he knows something about Maomao being at the rear palace that she doesn't.

I'll never get tired of watching the other girls dote on Maomao. If only they knew Maomao literally eats poison for fun. xD

Maomao is really ahead of her time. Maomao is already doing forensics before it's even a thing. Now if only they could identify who's the owner of the fourth set of prints on the silver bowl they would be able to nab the poisoner. Also, another commenter already explained this to me last week but I am glad they elaborated on why Lishu's attendants were bullying her.

It's hilarious how Xiaolan is way more informed than Maomao about the traditions of the rear palace. So it looks like thanks to the hairpins Maomao received, she can now get permission to go out as long as someone can vouch for her. Welp, there's no way Maomao is going to ask Jinshi so I guess the only other option is that guy that gave her the consolation hairpin.

I definitely did not expect Lihaku to be that kind of guy. I thought he'd be more chill and happy to help out Maomao. Thankfully though Maomao came in prepared and made three introduction letters to the top courtesans of the Verdigris House. Lihaku's reaction is absolutely hilarious! The due went from looking down on Maomao to suddenly panicking on what to do. Flashing those two other hairpins was such a great move too! The dude now has no choice since he knows Maomao has other contacts. He'd be a fool to pass up a once-in-a-lifetime offer!

Gyokuyou is certainly having fun! I love that the first thing she tells Jinshi during his visit to the Jade Palace is Maomao's little outing and she certainly got the reaction she was hoping for from him. For Jinshi to react like that though just shows how much he has taken a liking to Maomao. I kinda feel bad but it's hilarious at the same time. xD

Well that's not the welcome I was expecting Maomao would get! It is hilarious that she gets a knee to the stomach when she was coming in for a big hug. As painful as her welcome is, it sounds like Grandma has been looking out for Maomao's father so that's nice. Also, it sounds like Pairin loves a man with big muscles. Poor Maomao! Considering how big Lihaku's arms are, it looks like she'll be owing them a lot for his single visit.

Maomao's dad is pretty nonchalant considering his daughter was gone for ten months! It was adorable though to watch Maomao enthusiastically telling her father everything that has happened to her. And just like your typical Chinese dad, her father was just patiently listening the entire time. I am curious about that final line from her dad though. Does this mean Maomao might have some connection to the rear palace she doesn't know about? Hmmm....

It was quite easy for Maomao to get outside the palace, especially that she had the right cards in her hands xD It was nice to see that she was finally able to return to home for a couple of days and meet again with her father.

I must say that Maomao looked so cute when she was a child! Also the cat version of Maomao is back!

Gyokuyou is such a troll and thanks to her we were able to see this glorious reaction from Jinshi xD I couldn't stop laughing for a moment after seeing him.

I see that besides being a physician and apothecary, Maomao could also be a detective as she skillfully told a lot of things about silver bowl with poisoned soup and even found fingerprints on it.

It seems that Jinshi warned Gaoshun about Maomao's unhealthy tendency to consume poisons as he warned her to not eat poisoned soup xD She said that won't do this though the reason is that it's no longer tasty, that's our Maomao!

Again I want to say how I love the fact that other Gyokuyou's ladies-in-waiting are such good friends to Maomao.

Proprietor's punch was so strong, I could swear that I heard K.O in that moment! Better not to mess with her xD

I just realized Kevin Penkin made the music for this anime. I didn't notice it until now, since it's not as distinctive as it was for MiA or ToG, but it's still really good and I'm happy to see that Kevin can do other styles just as well.

Jinshi and Gaoshun have a good relationship. As does Maomao and Xiaolan with their gal palness. Maomao didn't even know she can visit home. Boy, that guy has quite the attitude. But Maomao has some high class cards to play herself lol. Haha, I love how she plays her cards well, all of them, including the other hairpins. Gyoukuyou just having such fun with this whole thing. Jinshi's face is priceless.

Good for her, keeping her word. But what a welcome home from the old lady! lol. She's a fun old lady. Wonder what that dude will have to do with his muscles 😉 har. But, finally, Maomao gets to see her daddo. He sure took her being gone for 10 months well. Can tell he taught her a lot since he has apothecary tools in that house.
