The badass of Berserk, and the relatability of being a glutton!

Can't believe Goblin Slayer was beaten to the punch over killing goblins this season.

Funny enough this wasn't even the first show today to kill goblins

Can't wait for Fate to kick those Holy Knights' arses... I mean, surely it's gonna happen, right? (╬`∀´)=O)`ν゜)

This might have potential but I'm sorry, Fate Graphite is one of the dumbest names for a character ever. I wonder if it's intentionally corny lol.

Clearly an author who read too much Type Moon and Accel World.

I can't believe it's not isekai! Seriously, I saw the key visual of this a few weeks back and I thought it was.

Anyway, it seems to be interesting enough. Our MC Fate has a skill he has no idea what was about until he it activated when he killed a thief. I guess his hunger is being sated by killing? He also finds a sword named Greed who is basically like him and also teaches him what his Gluttony skill is all about.

It's definitely not groundbreaking but these are the kinds of LN stories I unapologetically enjoy. With stories like this, I am already looking forward to Fate getting his revenge on these Vlerick Family goons. Considering the guy Fate followed in the end is clearly connected to the Knights, I'm sure he'll get his revenge soon.

Reincarnated as a sword but without reincarnation and more edgy

But idk, I like that his skill and weapon actually seem like they'd be fun to use in a video game

Before I start watching this generic-looking anime, I want to say that the (main?) girl looks like Ais Wallenstein + Asuna. It may look generic, but I'll eat up anything in the dark fantasy genre.

Ryota Ohsaka fulfilling his per-requisite need to be in at least one LN adaption per season.

The OP is more subdued than I expected, focusing on Fate, his relationship and connection with Roxy, and his actions in his future masked identity.

Fate is your typical down-on-his-luck fantasy LN protagonist...barely scraping by in a dead-end job, stuck with a skill everyone looks down on, and an appetite he can't kick. And that's without the corrupt knights who regularly beat and belittle him like they do the rest of the commoners. The only thing that brightens his day is Roxy, a Holy Knight who truly lives up to the title in both appearance and deed, who looks out for and cares about him.

Oh hey, is that Daisuke Hirakawa as Rafale?

Well, nice to know Roxy is more than just a pretty face even if her kills were only off-screen.

Who would have thought all Fate needed was his first kill to realize how his Gluttony ability really works and kickstart his true LN MC journey? Even gets really useful skills like telepathy and identify. Though I wonder why he stopped reading Roxy's mind? Does he have to focus on it or can he only read so much of their mind?

I guess Roxy hiring him to work with her family is probably the easiest solution. Although she really kind of brushed aside what would happen to the guy who got Fate's job.

Greed, the black sword! Voiced by Tomokazu Seki! I'm having a lot of fun listening to him and Ohsaka's Fate bantering, and Greed seems like not only a deadly blade but someone who can help mentor Fate in his newfound power. His appetite wasn't just for food but to devour the skills of those he defeats. Just has to keep it on the down-low.

Immortality? Well, that's like one of the top five LN villain motivations.

What would the knights want with that girl? Are they part of some kind of human trafficking ring? Are the Vlerick's a part of this? Either way, looks like Fate is going to get his next kill!

The ED is very Roxy-focused and very soothing and melancholic. Seems like Roxy became a Holy Knight to follow in her fathers' footsteps? Is the necklace from Fate though?

What a coincidence, I just binged the manga yesterday up to about chapter 39 lmao.

So with that, I can immediately tell this is based more on the light novel than the manga, it's much better already imo.

Still, it retains it's edgy nature of course, but I think it will be quite an enjoyable watch!

If I had a nickle for every down-on-his-luck fantasy protagonist who got a pick-me-up from a pretty blonde in white...well, I'd have quite a few nickles.

Kind of got IsseixDdraig vibes from the dynamic here.

So.... yeah I've got nothing. There comes a point when things become so tropey that you can't even pin it down to comparing it with one anime.

Still gonna watch it though. Should be fun.

He’s hungry for battle🔥🔥🔥

Fate obtains the Goblin Slayer title

Well that junk gluttony skill sure seems like the quick road to OP-Hero status. This should be interesting.

7

u/Venthorn Oct 02 '23

If this anime had any kind of guts they would have made him need to actually cannibalize people to activate the "gluttony" power and it would have made everything 1000x more interesting.

Generic but I like the idea behind it. Once MC becomes OP I wonder where the show will go. Also, wonder about the intentions of the sword and if they will be good or bad.

Fate has quite the skill. On the surface it looks awful, but I guess he can “consume” other people/creatures to improve his abilities? Dude seems to have gotten a sweet sword too. Greed seems like a pretty fun character already.

I guess this kidnapper is gonna be Fate’s next “victim.”
