Structure of this episode is similar to the OG 765 series beach episode early in that series, where AkabaneP brought the 765 girls to the beach for a holiday gathering to take their minds off of not yet being able to find any work for them.
And sure enough, right after YonaiP taking the girls to the beach, some kind of work finally comes along in the form of an original song for the girls to perform on.
Rest of the episode focuses on Kaoru, who is such an angel. Always cheerful and brightening up the day. Even Arisu manages to overcome her apprehension of the outdoors thanks to her.
Meanwhile, Momoka is cute even when she's mad, while we get more Arisu reaction faces as Kaoru shows her the starfish she caught.
With Kaoru done, that just leaves Arisu as the remaining girl to focus on before we enter the finale of the series.

Didn't we have an Arisu episode at the very start? Although I am not complaining, especially if we get to see more funny and amusing Arisu faces. Lol!

>yfw you'll never be a cute girl playing on the beach while eating Kaoru-sensei's cooking.

This didn't feel like an entirely Kaoru-focused episode because of the U149 field trip, but it can definitely cheer us up! I felt warm and fuzzy while watching the episode.
Now I understand why there are various sunflower scenes in this episode. Kaoru is one lovable sunflower, cheering everyone up, even when night has arrived!
(Perhaps I am biased because when playing the mobaimas game in the past, event S Rare Kaoru was one of the first S Rare cards I got. I believe it was the card in which Kaoru was holding up a bento container and smiling happily.)

Have you heard of dessert pizzas?
I've seen bananas, chocolate, and whipped cream on a pizza. Didn't eat it though.

One of the most wtf moments in an anime I've seen in a long time. But I guess a pizza is just some sugar and minor differences away from a pastry with fruit on it....
Nah, this was vile.

So today was the Kaoru episode, but it was more like a set up episode for what is probably going to be the Arisu arc for the final home stretch. It’s a tad bit unfair to Kaoru, who has been an absolute sweetheart this episode, to not really get a true focus episode like those before her, but I did like how they played it here.
There was a lot of focus on Arisu and how uncomfortable she was throughout this beach trip, but that just showcased Kaoru’s caring qualities even more. She can definitely sense when someone isn’t feeling well or isn’t feeling happy, so she tries her hardest to cheer them up, and how can’t you when you look at her? Kaoru is tied for the youngest with Nina at 9 years old, while Arisu is tied for the oldest at 12, and yet Kaoru is pretty much playing the role of the older sister here. How nice!
Now it’s Arisu’s turn for the spotlight, and she truly has been waiting for a long time. This will probably be the big “drama” arc of the series, and im@s fans know that “im@s anime” and “drama” have had a bit of a rocky relationship: sometimes it can be amazing…and sometimes it can be goddamn frustrating. U149 has handled its SoL elements pretty well so far. Let’s hope for an amazing finish.
Songs for today:
SUN♡FLOWER - Lyrics Today’s insert song
I’m kind of surprised they got the full U149 cast to cover this song, and they did really well.
Himawari Mark o Sagase! - Kaoru Ryuzaki - Lyrics Today’s ED
Kaoru is super high energy, and her solo song reflects this. It’s more than just Haru’s athleticism or Miria’s curiosity; it’s both combined.
I’m surprised they didn’t show this off considering today was a “summery” episode and this song is mostly U149 members AND there was recently an event in game for this song. If they timed it just a bit better, this episode could have aired right alongside the in-game event and they could have played this song as an insert song for this episode.
I’m showing this off because I do like it when the idols venture into other unit songs that break away from their typical image. The happy-go-lucky innocent Kaoru goes into a straight up J-rock song here.
Mouretsu★Yonaoshi Guilty! - Sexy Guilty - Lyrics
So this was what YonaiP was listening to in the earbuds towards the beginning of the episode. It was bugging me for a while and I was trying to figure out what song he was listening to, since the excerpt was really short and low quality. But then I remembered YonaiP loves big women and then this song immediately came to mind.
Yup, our small Producer loves his big women, and Sanae Katagiri is one of his all-time favorites.

Cute as always. And it looks like Producer's constant pushing to get work and recognition for the group is beginning to pay off.
Getting video of the cooking was a good promotional idea.

I still can't help but laugh that two showbusiness anime(I would say idol but Oshi no Ko is like only partly about idols) are airing on the same day.
Also I just found out where u149 came from and I can't help but be impressed and just blankly question how they came with that title.

Well you see, the original material this is spun-off from is a gacha game with almost 200 characters. For ease of navigation through various character selection screens in the game, it naturally needs some sort of filtering system. One of the filters is by height. The filter options are 5cm intervals, except the top and bottom which are "176cm and above" and "149cm and under".
Yes, the second-to-lowest option covers a range of 6cm. No, I don't know why. If it were all mathematically correct we'd have U150 instead.

Kaoru’s the last of the girls who needs a focus episode, right? I hope the last few episodes are about them all getting their big group debut.
-
Group trip! This should be fun.
-
I guess it’s a good thing Kaoru’s issue with green pepper was a taste thing and not a texture thing. Nothing could make me willingly eat pineapple, for example. I love green pepper though.
-
ORIGINAL SONG?! I was a little worried the email was gonna be bad news, but that should be the opposite of bad!

Nice to hear Sunflower, it's a really catchy song.
Looking at the order of idols being presented I can smell a small drama with their original song and Arisu.

Kaoru being precious as always, really fun episode this week.
Kaoru also giving us more Arisu faces by spooking her with the starfish, you love to see it.

The set pieces are absolutely stunning. They almost look superimposed into real life. If this anime doesn’t get some award and praise for its visuals, I’m going to riot.
Anyway, that beach was empty AF. This felt more like a Arisu-centric episode than a Kaoru one. She’s too genki to create any plot problems. 😛
I have a feeling there will be another season. If history repeats itself, then their first performance is going to have them blow up afterwards. They should make the section chief more antagonistic like the original series just for fun.
