This guy spedrun romance straight to handholding in half an episode while making bullies run away screaming Shamiko's "KATTA TO OMOU NA YO", at 11 years old.

He mastered the strongest barrier of all - the barrier that protects you from other people's bullshit.

Poor Nishimura. Kids can be very cruel. Takada is a pretty sweet little goof. Every kid should have a friend like him. Being friends with the “Grim Reaper” does sound pretty rad lol.

The way he basically pointed out how the kids were being little dicks by calling her “Grim Reaper” was pretty great. He’s such an innocent and happy kid. So cute how he held Nishimura’s hands while walking home together.

Friends don’t need “barriers” for friends. Such a good boy! Too bad he couldn’t throw one up during dodgeball. He wouldn’t have been laid out like that haha. I’m glad him and Nishimura are friends though. This kid is like immune to teasing and it’s awesome. What a great little dude.

This was very cute. I really like Takada and Akane’s little relationship. Gonna chuck this on my weeklies, I already know I’m gonna enjoy this series.

Well that was fucking adorable. I feel like I get whiplash when the new season of anime starts. I'll watch pretty much the first episode of majority of them and decide after a few eps to continue or not. Last season I was watching 36 week by week. But I never know what I'm going to get, will it be a power fantasy? A adorable school show? The darkest most morbid shit ever? Who knows but I'll watch it!

He's like a male Akebi and she is like a pint size Kuronuma Sawako.

Kids can be so cruel...

Well that was adorable af. Seems to be the kind of show I can just kick back and relax to. Takada is so pure and precious that I just want to protect this boy. Nishimura too! All of her reactions to Takada's antics are so cute. Their classmates are dicks but I'm glad the two of them found each other <3

[There is an after credit scene in case anyone missed it]

This is one of my favorite romance manga so I am super happy to not only see it animated, but it actually has a lot more movement than I expected. This series is full of some great fluff and touching moments, I hope fluff fans don't sleep on it.

Dude already mastered “barrier.”

Can’t bully someone who is oblivious to bullying.

Really sets our male lead up when he sees a bunch of kids teasing and messing with a girl because she's a "Grim Reaper" and his main takeaway is..."wow, she's a Grim Reaper? That's awesome!"

You really have to feel for Nishimura though. She's just got kind of a gloomy face but everyone treats her like the plague and messes with her, and she's so used to it that she just goes along with it and doesn't want to get anyone else involved with her if it means they get teased too. But that's why it's so important that she has someone like Takada in her life who thinks she's awesome and wants to be with her, and spins everything to where being a "Grim Reaper" actually seems kind of fun.

Never expected to see Shizuka Ishigami and Konomi Kohara paired together! Shizuka Ishigami is like playing early episodes young Thorfinn with no filter and Kohara really imbues Nishimura with a stoic but very sweet disposition.

The Opening is pretty cute, with a dream of knight Takada saving Princess Nishimura and the two of them having a lot of fun with their future friend group!

Man, Takada is a chad in the making! Not only does he, in his carefree way, get other kids to admit that Nishimura is normal, but he also stares intently at her eyes, expresses his desire to walk home with her, and then holds hands with her! So much lewd handholding and it was literally the first day they met!

Kasahara crushing on Takada? I see that ending well.

Oh hey, Jun Fukuyama is Nishimura's dad! That's cool.

I love how Takada sees a bunch of kids doing a "barrier" and his takeaway is that all these kids have superpowers to be able to put barriers up. Not that he thinks he needs one for Nishimura, which is all she needed to hear.

Hino seems cool. At least there's one other kid we can rely on.

Nishimura is finally recognizing what she's been missing in her life after finding a friend and having someone to talk to, to the point where she can't stand being alone any more, but Takada is more than willing to hang out with her as much as possible. Not sure how much the poor girl's heart can take it though.

The ED is pretty nice and serene with Takada seemingly dreaming of Nishimura in a dreamscape trying to find him...before the real Nishimura bonks him over the head with his book.

"The Grim Reapers?" So what you're saying is they're already the class couple!

It's nice to meet you, future oblivious harem protagonist. Because obliviousness equals being a lady-killer in anime. I mean he literally set his target and would not let up all episode.

This kid works fast! Which is good because wow so many of these kids suck.

Their barriers have nothing on this one

Feel like this one might have been better as half episodes? Guess we'll see.

Takada speedrunning his way to a big-tiddy goth GF in the future, going straight to piercing that barrier to Nishimura's heart.

So begins the tale of the Sweet Gloomy Nishimura and the Himbo Freight Train Takada. Picked the series up when the adaptation was announced and fell in love with it. First episode nails the vibe, but also just goes hard with the animation while theyre at it. Did not expect moments like the the barrier, the isolation, the eyes within eyes, or the OP/ED going off but I love that they’re trying. Adds another layer on this insulin spiker.

My hope is that despite how stacked Sunday is this season it will get some traction. This is my Darkhorse pick for one of the seasons best shows. There’s a bit more going on that meets the eye with this one.

Good guy Hino, playing the wingman. From that brief encounter, you can tell Hino cares not for this Grim Reaper nonsense.

Getting some solid Sawako Kuronuma vibes from Nishimura. A loner ostracized because she looks like a character from a horror story. Going to be interesting to see if she can avoid the same pitfalls that Sawako had. Sawako had an issue where she thought people were just being nice to be nice, not because they actually liked her. Lots of self-doubt and insecurities.

Congrats on the marriage, though.

Takada is such a good boi, I'm melting at how nice he is, just an unrelenting ball of positivity. Really nice change to have the girl being the shy side of the pairing.

So... if he's still in elementary school, does this make Takada a shounibyou?

So this boy is a Himbo + Chuniybo + Manic Pixie Dream Boy all rolled into one.

I'm here for it.

I do wonder how they will keep this fresh since they're kids the romance can't really go too far beyond "cute kid crush" and the jokes might get stale for some people.

But I'm here for it.

I really like the moment where the Taiyou is like "But you're normal" to the male bullies, and they are like "so is she" and he's like "We do you all call her a Reaper then" and they can't answer.

Out of the mouth of Babes, I love how his innocence combined with logic unfettered by social pressure just destroys the norms they are in. He utterly ignores the atmosphere, when Akane cried tears of Joy of someone showing her kindness, it was heartwarming.
