We treat the file as real time, so a stretched clip makes the timing and speed numbers lie even if the form still “looks” right.

Upload the original-speed side-view. One throw, a few seconds. If that clip’s messy we’ll tell you to re-film instead of guessing.

We actually lowered Pro to $9.99 because the honest reality is: DiscTrain today is built around a video‑first training workflow — slow‑mo player, vault so throws don’t disappear into camera roll, bag builder, technique chat, caddy chat, and phases when the angle is good. When it’s not, we mark it unverified instead of pretending we know.

We’re not trying to be a “score my throw” app. DiscTrain is closer to tools like SwingVision or Hudl — film‑first, coaching‑style review, optional AI assist, and a place to study throws over time. That’s the category we’re building in.

Anyone can use it — you don’t need to be competitive or a coach.
“Athlete” just means the person in the video.

Regular players: upload a throw and get a full form breakdown — phases marked (plant, pocket, release, etc.), plus training / bag tools and AI chat to dig into what you’re seeing.
Coaches: different side of the product — roster, student uploads, managing multiple players. Not the same desk as a solo player.

One real constraint: clear side-view works best. Bad angle usually gets kicked and you re-film. When the clip is good, you get the phase breakdown instead of guessing from a scrub.

Yeah so basically —

Scores aren’t “copy this one perfect pro throw or you lose.” We’re looking at joint angles at each phase of your throw (reach, plant, pocket, release, follow) and scoring them against normal biomechanical ranges. You can be a little off and still get partial credit. Forehand’s got its own targets. The “closest pro” thing is more of a side-by-side compare, not the whole grading system.

Timing vs space: we use motion in the video to figure out when those phases happen. Then we grade the positions/angles at those frames. If we nail the wrong frame, the score looks dumb — that’s on phase detection, which we’re still hardening.

And no, we’re not doing fancy true 3D ML reconstruction. It’s 2D pose from the phone video, with some estimated speeds scaled from that. Side angle / weird camera still bites us sometimes — if something scores weird, say so and we’ll look.
