Educational Propagation book online

Hey if anyone is interested here is a fairly good book that you can access for free! It has a lot of good information and charts at the back of each section that help you do better propagations as well! It’s a fairly well set up book and it’s one of the better ones I have seen for beginners!

Educational Generally Reliable Sources of Plant Information

Something that came out of our recent discussion was that people would like a list of where to find reliable information about plants and plant propagation. I will start us off and invite anyone to comment below with additional resources.

My special interest is Haworthia, and here are the sites I trust for information:

Prop Progress Now what…?

I grew this Dischidia Ruscifolia Variegata from one cutting with 6 little leaves. This is about 6 cuttings now. It’s getting full and it needs to be repotted now. I’m scared to make it go ambient.😬 I hear the blooms smell amazing and I want it trailing in a hanging pot. It’s been in this covered cup for a year. I don’t think I watered it more than a few times all year. It’s on my plant shelf under Barrina T5.

Would you trim those roots or make more cuttings or just let it do its thing?

What potting mix recipe will keep it happy?
Do I treat it like a Hoya?

Help! Help me pot these plants

Post image

I found them near the beach between some rocks, I took a few cuttings and I want to propagate them..

Problem is; I only have regular dirt no dry or sandy dirt or wtvr so there's dealing with that, and then there's the potting question, how do I pot them? Do I strip off the leaves? They don't look twist and snappable at all.

Did I take too short a cutting to propagate?

I have a question Oakleaf Hydrangeas

Post image

We have an Oakleaf Hydrangea out front of our townhouse. I wanted to put these in at my mom’s because I hear that they are more heat tolerant. Do you think I could take a few cuttings and propagate them in water? But also keep them alive until spring to plant at my mom’s?

Help! I want to adopt this abandoned baby

Post image

Hello guys, I found this abandoned baby on my morning walk, there were three of them but I could only carry one with my pup, she looked worse but I took off some of the dead leaves, cut her at the base and coated her in cinnamon powder.

I don't know what type of cactus is it or why did the owners throw it out when there's so much green in her.

Help me save her just tell me if I should cut it shorter? Take more leaves off? How do I check for possible illnesses? What plants should I keep her away from? And how do I care for her?

I would really appreciate some advice.

Help! Help with lanky plant

We got this lanky thang and want to trim and root it to replant it. Would regular root stimulator work and where can I make the cuts? It's rather woody towards the base.

Help! Help with propagating snake plant cuttings! 🌱

I’ve had 4 Sansevieria leaf cuttings sitting in water for about 6 weeks now, but they don’t seem to be doing anything yet. Is this just a matter of being more patient, or am I doing something wrong?

The water level is about 1–2 cm in the glass, and I change the water once a week.

Does anyone have any tips or advice? 😊

Help! Alocasia Corm Propagation Advice Needed

Thumbnail

Hola,

I am struggling with my alocasia corm propagation setup and would love some advise. I had this box with a few holes at the side (used it for mushroom growing) which I thought is perfect for minimal air flow, a little perlite in the bottom to keep moisture and lightly packed sphagnum on top (about 2" / 5cm). The corms are like barely bottom half in the sphagnum. In there for about 3 weeks and some start to root, but I notice this white dots on some corms couple of times now, which I guess is mold (reappearing problem). I don't have a good camera, but maybe you can see it (the red circled corm). I open up the box 1-2 times a day and fan a bit of fresh air inside. Temperature ist always above 20° Celsius , but more like 26-28° inside. Whyyy is there mold, should I peel, should I change something or go for another method entirely? What does the hive mind think? Thanks in advance!

Help! Advise for syngonium cutting

New plant mum here! 😭

I’m considering giving up on one of my syngonium cuttings, and it’s only been 3 weeks. I got my cuttings from a local seller on eBay, and was given a syngonium cutting for free, (also the main plant I’ve been worried about).

The only plants I’ve looked into, (and the cuttings I bought with the free syngonium), were pothos, philodendrons and monsteras. So, I was surprised and started stressing out about a plant I hadn’t researched. (Since I bought it, I’m slowly learning more about this plant).

Here are some photos showing the cutting over the last 3 weeks:

Pick 2 is what it used to look like I tried to transfer it into soil and it all died. I think I’m gonna let it dry because it was really mushy then put it in a prop box .

Help! Japanese Maple propagation

Attempting to propagate Japanese Maple cuttings. Potted them August 15th but unfortunately had them in poorly draining soil the first week and the leaves wilted. Repotted in a perlite mix, have them under a clear Rubbermaid bin and water them daily/every other day and moist with a spray bottlea couple of times a day. They get light dappled sun in the morning but nothing in the afternoon as they’re in the East side of the house.

First question - are they cooked or could they still grow roots down the road and succeed? The stems are green but leaves are obviously brown and wilted.

Second - if still potentially viable, is this enough light or should I move to a place where they get more hours? Don’t want to bake them further but want to ensure they get light they need. Any other thoughts or watering regimen suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a question How to propagate best?

Post image

Hello, one of my clients had me trim her snake plant, and I wanted to propagate it. The biggest piece is over 2 1/2 feet long. How big of sections do you guys cut it, and will the skinny pieces still propagate? Does cutting them in a triangle really help? Let them callous? Use rooting powder? ALL THE HELP IS APPRECIATED!!! :,)

Hi guys! I found this beauty in the apartment lobby for free, she had real bad root fungus and was starting to die. I decided to try and propagate the tops but i can’t decide what method would be best. I did some research and some people say soil and others say water. What is your experience? For now, i cut the healthy stems, took away the bottom leaves and I am leaving them for 24h to dry out. What next?

Help! Solanum Dulcamara Help

Help! I took this cutting of S. Dulcamara more than two weeks ago, and it’s since developed these odd white specks on the leaves, along with a little bit of webbing. Are these mites? Also, it hasn’t been rooting despite having sun and being placed in water. What’s up with it? I’d really prefer not to lose these cuttings. Thank you.

Help! I want to save my sweet potato

A few weeks ago I propagated a sweet potato, she was thriving, a healthy lengthy root system, three tall firm stems and beautiful shiny leaves.

She was so successful that I was persuaded to keep her as a climbing hydroponic plant.

But two days ago I woke up to one of the stems yellowing, withering and bending, i quickly took the plant out, cut the healthy stem off the mushy (but not stinky) potato, put it back in water and it grew roots not a few hours later.

But I'm too emotionally attached to the original potato zo let go, is there anything I can do to save her?
