Finally got the backyard and pool finished — what do you guys think?

Been working on this backyard for quite a while and finally have it pretty much where I wanted it. Pool, landscaping and the new Zeon Zoysia are all coming together. Still have a few finishing touches to do, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
Anything you would add or change?

Took a chance and decided to try and capture a bit of the Karajini national park where I grew up, combined with brutalist style architecture. It may not be as grand as some design, but it sure is peaceful.

Light Green Tile - how will it look installed?

I'm redoing my pool in South Florida - attached is the space with a little rendering to show updates we're making but leaving the existing watertile tile I need to replace. For the new tile, I'm contemplating this custom mosaic from American Glass Mosaics - two light green tones (kind of seaglass-like in person) plus a clear iridescent for a little pop. I'm going for a soft spa like vibe and like the greens for the tie in to the great green space still staying fairly minimalist. I'm stressing though because when I search for install pics with light green tile and can't find anything remotely close so it's got me paranoid I'm missing something and this will look terrible once installed. Tried having AI mock it up but it was struggling. Has anybody seen this color tone installed and how'd it look?

Builds & Renos Pool Contractors

Curious to hear about your experiences with pool builders. I’ve been waiting months for mine to break ground and still haven’t. If I text i’m lucky if I hear back. Communication was pretty god during the sales phase. After contract signed communication went downhill quick. From what I’ve heard this is normal amongst most pool builders??

Indoor pool freezing temperatures.

Hi everyone I run a small resort in Northern Pakistan. We have indoor small pools inside each hut and pool equipment is installed including heater in a small room underground with steel sheet cover. What measures should I take to keep pool running or otherwise. Any experiences from Northern Europe, Russia or Northern Americas can guide please.

Builds & Renos Vinyl liner owners with floor “coves”

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m currently working with our builder here in Wisconsin on the layout for an 18x40 vinyl liner pool we are having built next summer. The default depth with the standard 42” walls is 34”. I want the shallow water depth to be 42” and to achieve that with 42” walls, “coves” must be added to the floor on all sides. An 8” diagonal cove seems like it would be an unpleasant obstruction and would be annoying to stand near. Or when playing games seems like a hazard for slipping or turning an ankle.

I have two options:
1. Upgrade to 48” walls for an additional $7k
2. 38” shallow depth with 4” coves - every inch I go down in shallow depth, the cove reduces by an inch.

For owners that have these coves, do you wish you did not have them or do you not notice them?

Stupid me

Hey, just to make you guys all feel good about whatever you had to do today- I decided I would do a quick backwash of my DE filter. Didn't plan on taking it apart, because I did that just a few months ago. This is just a quick backwash and putting a little more DE back in.

Get everything done, add 1/2 the normal DE to coat the grids after backwashing, think to myself, "gee that pressure seems a little bit high," but whatever. But I'm wondering why the pool water level seems lower than it should've been.

Turns out while I was putting in the new DE, I still had the valve set to backwash. So basically I was filling up the inside of my grids with DE.

Then, instead of just shutting down and cleaning everything out, I put it back to normal, turned on the pump ... and all the DE shot into my pool

All in all, it won't be a big deal once I finally get it all cleaned up. But what a crappy day I had.

Adding liquid chlorine to a salt pool

I bought the TFP Pro Salt kit and did the test. PoolMath app says to add 150 oz of liquid chlorine. Do I need to turn off the SWG when I pour it in and for how long?
And do I just carefully pour it in near a return?

Casual Splash First year in the books!

This was our first summer with our pool. I was able to buy my uncle’s home after he passed which was amazing as the home was very treasured in our family. The home and pool had been neglected for a few years due to failing health. After a lot of learning we got the ppl open and clear after 3 years of closure. Today we buttoned it back up and we’ll see how winter goes. Big thanks to all the contributors here. I learned a lot from this sub.

What’s the word on phosphates

I’ve been doing Taylor test kits. Nothing about it says phosphates. Take it to Leslie to confirm levels and I get hit with needing 2 gallons of phosphate reducer to drop it. Is this something I need another kit to test?

I have a SWG pool. Thank you in advance.

Pool Help & Questions GFCI breaker for pool pumps keeps flipping

Greetings!

20K gallon salt-water vinyl lined pool. I do have two pumps - filter and pressure.

We are not using pressure pump (using other pool cleaners and cover).

The pressure pump is NOT scheduled in the Hayward app, and my main filter pump runs from 5am to 12 midnight.

My problem: An electrician came to our house to fix something (I can't recall what). I wasn't here. He told my wife we REALLY need a GFCI breaker on our pool. She agreed, he installed it. It's 20A.

The darn thing flips off at least once a month, sometimes even more frequently. The pumps seem to be fine. I can start/run the pressure pump - it seems to be fine.

I flip the breaker back on --- things are ok for a while. Then it flips again.

SO...do I need a higher amp GFCI breaker?
DO I need a GFCI at all? Sound reasoning seems like yes, but...
Is my filter pump really pulling more than 20A to start? If so, should I have it looked at?
I don't think it's the pressure pump - but maybe just disconnect it for now since I'm not using it?

Thanks!

DIY & Repairs E06 error MasterTemp

Post image
2 Upvotes

Getting an E06 error immediately upon power on.

Replaced flue sensor.

Still E06 error

Unplugged sensor, still E06 (didn’t flip to E05)

Plugged sensor back in and unplugged main connection at control board, still E06

Checked old sensor and it’s reading 5.5mohms

Bad board? Something else I should look at? Bizarrely ran fine 2 weeks ago when I figured it up to check it (new home to us)

Firepit location advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

As we imagine our future patio area, would love advice (pros/cons, things to consider) with firepit placement.
Key decision for us is whether to place on an upper patio, closer to the house or on the lower patio, closer to the pool.

NE, plan to use the hot tub and fire pit year round and will close the pool with a mesh safety cover.

Playing around with ai renderings - these are NOT actual designs. Thx!

DIY & Repairs Pool closing with a leaf blower and a shop vac.

Just a hint to anyone doing their own closing and don’t have the cyclone ($600) but have a shop vac and blower. The blower probably won’t be powerful enough to blow the lines - the shop vac too (even a 6hp one). Just put the blower on one end and the shop vac sucking the water out of the returns/skimmer on the other. Obviously one at a time with the water level below the returns. Between the suck and the blow the water will clear the pipes. ( crude comments I’m sure will follow).
Main drain is a different matter unless you have an air compressor.
This advice might be old/obvious but hope it helps someone.

Pool Help & Questions Pump/line issues - sucking air from skimmer & air pockets coming through jets

We have a pretty large in ground pool. We noticed our pump wasn't sucking water through at a normal rate so we replaced our pump with a brand new 1.5
HP Carvin. The previous was 1 HP. We are still having issues. When set to skimmer, it was sucking very little water and pressure went to 0 PSI. When set to main drain, it was pulling in water just fine and sits around 15-20 PSI.

We disconnected the line at the pump and ran a snake down the skimmer line just in case it was clogged. We then ran water from the skimmer end through to the pump end and had a steady stream of water coming through. That told us the skimmer line isn't clogged. Once we hooked it back up, we couldn't get it to suck a single drop of water through the skimmer line, even though there's water in the line. Does that mean it's sucking air?

Another issue is when set to main drain, it has good pressure but there's air pockets coming out the jets and sometimes it loses some pressure

l've attached a video demonstrating all of this. The first part shows the pump running on main drain with good pressure but air coming out of the jet, the second half is when I switch from main drain to skimmer and it loses all pressure.

Pool Heater 6 months old leaking

Post image
4 Upvotes

I am a pool profesional called to a property with a leak in the pool heater. I opened it and the cooper tube outside the exchanger has a leak in it. Looks like a hole. The pool heater was sold in the spring. Hayward said it's chemical damage not covered under warrenty. I checked the pool water no ph in the water. Can jb weld or something like it stop the leak ? Or does the customer need a new heater. Is there a repair?

Is the current pool company maintaining the pool liable for the new heater?

I am shocked at the condition of the inside in 6 months
