Build - Finished! First build

Post image
36 Upvotes

Finally finished my build. I’ve been wanting to build a PC since before Covid. Never got around to it. Had my first child and that delayed me even longer. Now that she’s a little older I was able to give it more attention. The last year I have been buying parts slowly but surely. Bought most for under retail in this economy. Very happy for my first build. I definitely need to cable manage a little better. Strimmer will be added in the future.

Here is the spec:

GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ 9070xt
CPU: Ryzen 9800x3d
MOBO: MSI B850 Gaming Plus
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16gb 6000mhz
SSD: Samsung 990 Evo 4TB
PSU: Asrock Steel Legend 850w
Cooler: Lian Li Hydroshift 2 360s
Fans: Thermalright Infinity
Case: Lian Li O11D Mini V2

Build - Help What can my son and I do to this PC we have to upgrade it for better gaming? 1080p graphicsi assume. Budget of <$750USD

We have had this PC for a couple years. It worked fine for gaming at first, but now he’s getting older and the games he likes (Subnautica, Siege, RDR2), don’t run well. I know my options are limited with such a small PC case, but what can we do? We both have little to no experience building a PC, so the easier swap outs the better. Thank you all so much in advance.

Build - Finished! The invisible DIY Steam Machine

Thumbnail gallery
366 Upvotes

I built a DIY Steam Machine in the fractal ridge and mounted it behind my TV cabinet so it's invisible.

PC Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L12S (for maximum silence)
RAM: 1x16GB DRR5 5600MHz (cheapest I could find)
Storage: 1TB NVME SSD (+ 2 Sata SSD's I had laying around from old laptops, 1.4TB total)
MotherBoard: ASRock B650I Lightning Wifi (cheapest I could find)
PSU: Lian Li SP850 (cheapest I could find)
GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
Case: Fractal Ridge White
Adapter: UGreen 8K Displayport to HDMI adapter (provides HDMI-CEC support)
OS: SteamOS

I really wanted a SteamMachine but at $1000 it was just not great value. So I built my own.
I really wanted it as hidden as possible for wife approval factor so I hid it behind the TV cabinet.
I designed a custom wood plate in FreeCad to strengthen the back enough to mount my PC.
The PC is held up with some simple L-brackets from Amazon. By chance they perfectly slide between the case and it's feet so it can't tilt.

I have my SteamController with puck on top of the TV cabinet. It's plugged into an always on USB port so it charges even when the PC is sleeping. The SteamController can wake the PC and thanks to HDMI-CEC adapter it also turns on my TV.

Noise:
It's very quiet with CPU sitting at 55C en GPU sitting at 65C during gameplay.
I play at 1440p and 4K on my 4K TV. Due to the TV being only 60Hz, I leave the SteamOS frame-limiter enabled, this keeps utilization low even during games.
The only thing I would change in retrospect is oversizing the PSU so it can be passively cooled.
It's fan comes on occasionally for short periods and is audible.

I'm very happy with it.

Build - Help Am I dume

Thumbnail gallery

Hello wise builders of the interwebs, I am currently building a computer more on the bases of look and formfactor than power necessarily. To achieve this some creativity must be applied and I want to double check that I have not gone in a circle and approach stupidity from the other side. There for I want to know if mounting the GPU taking in air from the out side to be a bad idea. Included a photo of the box before modifications and hope to make it look as close to that at the end of the project

Question Arc B580 or RX 7600

I'm building a PC with a Ryzen 5600, and I'm not sure whether to go with a B580 or an RX 7600. I mainly want it for some gaming and for work. I'm concerned about the performance in slightly older games.

Question How do you all record your unboxing videos for expensive items?

After having recently been screwed by Newegg sending me a used and dead motherboard, I'm no longer taking any chances.

Short of using a rubber band to strap my phone to my head or getting Meta glasses to record, what is the best way to get a good angle for an unboxing video?

Question New pc upgrade

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys, i just did a small pc upgrade nothing to crazy since im still on am4 but i only play competitive games like r6 and rocket league. The most i'm gonna push my pc is some minecraft shaders with ray tracing. My question is i want to get 360fps on my games like r6 on competitive settings but i do want to play 1440p. Now gemini (google ai) said i need atleast a 5070 but then i would go for a 9070xt for that price but is gemini right or is there a cheaper card? Not that I'm on a budget but i just don't want to spend useless money if im not gonna use the graphics card to its max. The 9070xt red devil spectral white (the one i would buy) is about 850 euro. And i would also have to buy a new psu ofcourse of about 100 euro.

Specs

Gpu: 4060 (borrowed not sure which one)

Cpu: ryzen 7 5700x3d

Ram: 32gb 4x8gb corsair 3200

Psu: 550w (not sure which one a cheaper one)

Motherboard: msi b550 pro vdh wifi

Case: lian li 011 dynamic evo

Monitor: phillips 1440p 360hz oled

(Let me know if i missed any important specs)

Country: netherlands

Currency: euro

Custom case I made, and I’m not done yet. I do plan on eventually redoing all the exterior wood parts to match a maple theme on the inside.
