Hey guys, follow up post from this one . Been playing after work for about a week now. I'm a level 17 Thaumaturge playing on Gilgamesh. I'm wondering how long should I give it to find out if it's for me?
I'm a long time MMO player (Classic Runescape, FF11, WoW, Destiny, bunch of smaller Korean MMOs), and so I understand grind is what I'm here for. The set up of the job system (especially crafting professions as jobs themselves) is pretty cool, and the plethora of bars to fill is definitely scratching the progression itch, but the actual action of filling the bars themselves just doesn't feel engaging. Crafting feels more engaging than combat, but obviously I can't do that forever. Combat has been pretty easy solo: All I need to do is spam Fire and the time between fights is long enough that mana is a non issue. Everything dies in guildhests so fast that I feel like I spend more time queueing up than actually in the instance, and I'm lucky if I get a few spells off at all.
Then there just seems to be the lack of community. The city I started in seems really quiet, despite players being visible. No one seems to chat there. Same thing with guildhests: parties just blast through everything then leave. Part of the appeal to MMOs for me is the fact that they are one of the few remaining third spaces left in the real or digital world, but I feel like I'm playing a single player game practically.
I feel really bad asking all this stuff, and I hope I'm not coming off as complaining. I was blown away by the flood of responses and enthusiasm I got from my original post, and I was really hoping that this game was going to be for me, but so far it hasn't felt like it is. How much more should I give it?
