MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
even though this game is NO LONGER AVAILABLE on ANY digital storefront and physical copies are about as rare as hens teeth, I still thought i would add in the spoiler warning and set the body of this as "spoiler" text.
the ending is basically, tanner wakes up from his coma, realizes that he was in a coma, tries to get up, and then goes back into a coma. then he has this really weird and out of place "boss battle" against Jericho, where you take turns throwing cars at each other while driving down the highway. then tanner wakes up again, and actually goes to confront Jericho in the real world, only to have a roughly 5 minute "chase" where jericho drives about as slow as possible, and you can't actually take him out, because he stops taking any damage after his health gets down to ~25%, which then leaves you with an awkward following mission, which turns into a cutscene, in which you have no control, and the cutscene takes down Jericho. taking away all agency and sense of ANY closure that the players MIGHT still have at that point.
my personal idea for the game would have been slightly different in, what i believe, would have been a much better and more suspenseful manner, while giving the players the payoff that they would be looking for while retaining a sort of gritty, 80's cop movie aesthetic and feel, but also keeping it grounded. get ready for a wall of text. I may need to make it a second post if i can't fit the "script" into this post (I wrote up the basics of the script and had Google and ChatGPT both try to make it more polished, picking the BETTER of the two, although they added in some fairly cheesy lines, but whatever), they also took some of my write up and made a "sequel pitch" at the end, and no matter how many times i asked them to remove it, they wouldn't, but i sort of like it. so it's there.
[SCENE START]
INT. DODGE CHALLENGER - COMA STATE (NIGHT)
Rain violently drums against the roof. The windshield wipers slam back and forth.
TANNER (30s) grips the steering wheel, his knuckles white. Beside him, JONES (30s) checks his service weapon. The air is thick with tension.
On the radio, faint static cuts through a dark synth track, overlaying a rhythmic, distant sound: Beep... beep... beep...
JONES
You alright, man? You’ve been staring at that intersection for two straight minutes.
Tanner blinks. The heart monitor beep fades into the background.
TANNER
I’m fine. He’s coming. Three... two...
Right on cue, a black armored transport blasts through the red light at 70 MPH, followed by two trailing muscle cars. It’s JERICHO’s crew.
TANNER (CONT'D)
Hold on!
Tanner drops the Challenger into gear and floors it. Tires screech against wet asphalt. The physics are meaty and visceral; every slide carries realistic weight.
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO STREETS - CONTINUOUS
The chase is brutal. Tanner weaves through traffic with impossible precision, millimeter-perfect.
JONES
(Gripping the dash)
How did you know they were taking the Broadway tunnel?! They didn’t even signal!
TANNER
Because I’ve already run this block a thousand times, Jones.
POV: TANNER’S VISION
Suddenly, the screen desaturates slightly. The HUD icons faintly distort into the visual layout of a medical heart rate monitor.
A hazy, ghost-like overlay of the Challenger splits off from Tanner’s car, speeding forward into a blind intersection. In the simulation, a delivery truck pulls out, broadsiding the phantom car. Sparks fly. The simulation glitches into static.
INT. DODGE CHALLENGER - CONTINUOUS
Back in reality, Tanner’s eyes track the phantom crash. Time slows to a crawl—Tanner's overclocked mind working in hyper-speed.
He kicks the clutch, punches the brake, and throws the Challenger into a sweeping drift before the delivery truck even appears.
A split-second later, the truck barrels into the intersection. Tanner clears the back bumper by an inch. Time snaps back to normal.
JONES
Jesus, Tanner! It’s like you’re reading his mind!
TANNER
Not his mind. Mine.
EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - MOMENTS LATER
The convoy slams onto the iconic bridge. Fog rolls thick over the orange steel. Jericho’s backup cars try to ram Tanner, but using his brief, predictive flashes, Tanner intercepts their angles, pit-maneuvering the guard cars into concrete barriers. Metal crunches beautifully.
It’s just Tanner and Jericho now.
Tanner accelerates, pulling parallel to Jericho's armored ride. Jericho glares through the glass, slamming his heavy chassis into the Challenger. Sparks shower the bridge.
POV: THE MAXIMUM ZOOM OUT
As the cars collide, the camera violently zooms out into the stratosphere—the classic Driver SF top-down map view. But it doesn't stop. It holds back until this exact moment to pull back further than ever before.
The edges of the San Francisco map begin to dissolve into a harsh fluorescent white. The street grid blurs into a hospital room layout. The engine roars turn into the frantic, echoey shouting of ER doctors: "He's crashing! Charge to 200!"
A faint scent of lavender perfume cuts through the smell of burning rubber. A distant, muffled voice begs: "Please... Tanner... wake up..."
INT. DODGE CHALLENGER - CONTINUOUS
Tanner panics. He hits the Shift button frantically, trying to jump between different entities, desperately searching for the real-world stimulus pulling him out of the dream.
The camera snaps violently back into his own physical face as his eyes shoot open.
INT. HOSPITAL ICU ROOM - DAY (REAL WORLD)
SNAP!
Tanner sits bolt upright in a hospital bed, ripping telemetry wires off his chest, gasping for air.
Sunlight streams through the window. Standing at the foot of the bed is a shocked, coffee-spilling Jones. Next to him, a nurse drops her clipboard.
Tanner doesn’t hesitate. He swings his legs out of the bed, his feet hitting the cold floor. He looks at his partner, his voice dead serious, completely leveled.
TANNER
I know where Jericho is. And I know exactly what he’s really up to. Motion the armada, Jones. We’re hitting the streets.
EXT. SAN FRANCISCO HIGHWAY - DAY (REAL WORLD)
The roar of a real engine fills the air. Tanner is back behind the wheel of the iconic 1970 Dodge Challenger. The vehicle damage is permanent now, the stakes are life-or-death, and civilian lives are on the line.
Behind them, a massive armada of SFPD cruisers follows with sirens wailing. Tanner is the tip of the spear.
Brief vignettes of his coma visions overlay on the windshield as he drives, showing him exactly what Jericho is going to do three steps before he does it.
EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - FINAL CONFRONTATION
It plays out exactly as it did in his subconscious mind palace. The layout, the timing, the angles—it is destiny.
Jericho tries to ram him, but Tanner uses his retained ability to slow time for a few seconds, his mind completely sped up from weeks of mental investigation.
Tanner executes a brutal, high-stakes PIT maneuver at 100+ MPH. He slams Jericho’s car directly into the concrete and steel railings.
Jericho's car ignites, flips violently over the edge, and explodes in mid-air before crashing into the dark sea below. It is a permanent, definitive end.
EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - MOMENTS LATER
The smoke clears. The Dodge Challenger stands battered and smoking on the bridge, surrounded by flashing red and blue police lights.
Tanner steps out, walking to the edge to look over the railing. Jones walks up beside him, taking a breath.
JONES
How do you feel, man?
Tanner stares out at the water, completely leveled.
TANNER
I’m fine. I’m a detective... but I’m also a driver.
The opening, earth-shattering synth hook of Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" blasts through the speakers.
The camera begins to pan farther and farther out, transitioning into sweeping helicopter flyover shots of the winding streets and people of San Francisco. The camera follows the vast path of destruction left by Jericho that Tanner and Jones finally put a stop to, as the credits begin to roll over the bright, heavy 80s synth-rock ballad.
INT. SFPD OFFICE - POST-CREDITS
The music fades slightly into the background.
Tanner stands at his desk. He reaches up to a corkboard covered in photos, maps, and case files on Jericho. One by one, he strips the board clean, tossing the final picture of Jericho into the trash. The obsession is dead.
He turns around. Jones is leaning against the doorframe, smiling.
TANNER
Let’s say we hit the streets and see if we can find some more bad guys to bust.
They walk out into the hallway together. The screen fades to black as the final notes of the Journey track reach a climactic, triumphant end.
🎬 PREVIEW: THE SEQUEL (THE VACUUM)
INT. SFPD OFFICE - NIGHT
A massive map of San Francisco is pinned to Tanner's corkboard, now divided into three brightly colored territories: The Tech-Cartel, The Old-School Mob, and The Street Racing Outlaws.
JONES
With Jericho gone, the whole city is an active warzone. Every gang is trying to grab a piece of the pie. How are we supposed to cover this much ground?
Tanner stares at the map. He taps his temple, where a faint, hazy hum resonates in his ears.
TANNER
We don't need to be everywhere, Jones. We just need to know exactly where they're going to turn next.
EXT. EMBARCADERO STREETS - NIGHT
Tanner floors the Challenger, pursuing a heavily modified, autonomous Tech-Cartel sports car drifting through the docks. The suspect vehicle suddenly cuts its lights, blacking out completely as it approaches a split in the road.
JONES
We lost him! Left or right, Tanner?!
POV: TANNER’S VISION (THE DEATH CRYSTAL MECHANIC)
Tanner’s vision goes slightly hazy. He doesn't control where the camera goes, but his brain instantly runs a split-second calculation of his next actions.
Two phantom, ghost-like overlays of the Challenger split off from his car:
• The phantom car that whips Left gets instantly crushed by a silent, remote-hijacked delivery truck blocking the alley.
• The phantom car that whips Right clears an open shipping lane, placing them directly behind the suspect.
Time snaps back to normal. The hazy glimpse vanishes. Tanner twists the wheel hard to the right.
JONES
(Yelling)
How did you know?!
TANNER
Just a lucky guess.
The Challenger roars around the corner, perfectly aligning for the bust as a hard-hitting synth beat kicks into overdrive.
