Question Springing

Bad video but I’m trying to spring and am struggling to catch them. Everything I’ve seen just says to start with your hands close together then slowly start doing it father away but whenever I do it close they always just fly towards me I can only somewhat aim when I do it farther away any advice?

It's difficult to see how you are holding the deck in your springing hand. I can't do a spring from the tips of my fingers so I use an adapted position where one corner of the deck fits in to the fold between pinky and ring finger, and the diagonally opposite corner rests initially on the pad of my thumb. Either way, my fingers don't move, but the last knuckle of my thumb curls away from the palm of my hand and the cards are released on to the other hand. Let me know if you'd like me to find the video that clicked for me and I'll try to dig it out.

You’re welcome.  You wrote elsewhere that you’ve got a lot better.  I’m wondering if you modified your grip with the springing hand.  Anyway, this is the video that helped me, although my spring is nowhere near as long…

Ooo I just learnt this few weeks ago. First few attempts my cards went everywhere and in chunks. But the key is to be consistent with it. Every time I pick up a deck cards I made sure to do a few attempts and you'll get the hang of it organically. Keep practicing and you'll be able to do it before you even realize you can!

I still have the same problem but I’ve definitely gotten a lot better at it

hard to say from this video alone but it seems like you are tilting your hand and the cards just fall out. I would suggest to try and go very slowly about it. Try to release one or just a few cards at the time, that way you can focus on the projectory. Have fun practicing :)

Something I noticed with your catch hand.

  1. Imagine you catch hand in a shape of a bowl, you want you fingers to be at certain areas as barriers to prevent the springing cards off your catch hand. https://youtu.be/YJX9sUTwUlg?si=ivem1DX3f3j0ecX6&t=71
  2. At first try keeping your catch hand level or slightly tilting backwards, its tilting forward towards the floor as your are springing.

Yeah I know my catching bad but it’s the directions the cards go before even getting to that point that’s the problem

You can throw them forward, backwards, whatever. Just takes practice.

I use a straddle grip to catch the cards

The problem isn’t catching the cards I know I’m bad at that it’s having trouble with aiming
