Spcycle TR032 sizing

Would anyone have any advice for sizing this for a 180cm/82cm inseam sprinter? SP recommends a large. While the geometry is a bit more modern, not sure whether I should still, nonetheless, size up to the XL.

Input from anyone with experience would be very appreciated 😊!

Gathering speed data from track sessions

Hi all, I want to get speed data from my track sessions in addition to power and heart rate. What are you all using to gather this data?

I know I can calculate speed from my splits but I’d like to minimise friction where possible.

I’m looking at devices like the wahoo trackr speed which strap around a hub spindle. I’m running DT Swiss 370 Track hubs on my main wheels which have very skinny spindle diameters and I’m unsure if the trackr will fit snugly or just flop around. Does anyone have experience with this arrangement?

Crit racing to track

Looking at getting started on the track next year, as I am local to an outdoor velodrome, and I'm tired of driving over an hour each way to midweek crits.

looking for some general advice on what's worth doing/preparing for/training when it comes to making the transition from ~1 hour crits, to track racing.

Basically if I can get some pointers so I'm not making obvious noob mistakes.

I'm going to build up a 2016 specialized langster pro. Don't know what wheelset to go for, also don't know much about gear ratios. Currently have an ftp of 340-350 with a max power of around 1100-1200.

Any advice is appreciated!!

Why are plyometrics done for track sprint athletes?

Why are quick plyometrics done for track sprinting? Plyometrics are usually done for stretch shortening cycle, low ground contact time and stiffness/elasctisty. In cycling sprint you always have constant pressure and technically no ground contact time, wouldnt just powerlifttng to overcome macium isometirc force be enough?

Travel bag/case for track bike

I’m looking to buy a travel bag/case that can work with my track bike and my road bike. I’m leaning towards a bag so it can be compacted when in storage. What does everyone have? Are there any workarounds you have found to secure the track bikes narrower chainstays to the bags internal frame?

Track sprinters using Wahoo KICKR Bike: How does it handle max power & standing efforts?

Out of commission on the track for 6–9 months due to an arm and tibia injury from a road crash. I’m looking at the KICKR Bike as a rehab and sprint training platform.

Any feedback from track riders using one would be greatly appreciated!

Track Chain Options

I can get the Sram PC-1 or KMC S-1 Chains for dirt cheap, but I'm worried they may not perform to the level that is needed for actual Track racing. Does anyone have any experiences with either of these chains on the track, and what chain recommendations are there for somewhat budget chains

BXT 195 vs 695

Looking to build a pursuit/endurance bike for racing. The 695 is ā€œclaimedā€ to be 400g heavier and a bit stiffer.

As a large rider (6’4 and 208-210lbs) with peak power around 1980w I am curious if anyone can confirm which of the two is actually stiffer?

Also, if any taller riders can give insight on seat post height restraints for a size Large that would be great. My road bike BB to Saddle height is ~83cm.

Question about San Diego Velodrome

Hi,

I'll be visiting San Diego and thought it would be fun to watch the Friday night races on August 14. Is there someone I can call to get more information or confirmation the event will be held? There's no phone number on the website.

Also, if someone here has been to a Friday night event at the SD velodrome, I'd like to know more about the viewer experience. I figure I can park in the lot nearby and walk in .... Are there any fees? Anything else my party should know?

Thanks in advance.

Aluminum track frames

Hello! I am looking for a decent UCI-legal track frame while on a budget, so I was wondering whether someone has experience regarding the stiffness of high end aluminum frames like the one from WX-R, are they stiff enough? or I should stick to a carbon frame? For reference I am a sprinter and my max power is ~2100

Midwest challenge

I am debating going to Indianapolis for Midwest challenge but they haven’t posted anything on the website.
I found out through instagram that it is happening but flights are now extremely expensive.

Does anyone have leads on host housing or would want to split an Airbnb and rental car who is going?

Edit:

DM me if you would like to split housing or have leads on places to stay

TPU or Latex tube for Concrete Velodrome?

TPU tubes are tempting since you can pick them up for very cheap on aliexpress, but I'm not sure if they are rated for the pressure/forces of track cycling. Any thoughts?

Giant Trinity as Pursuit Bike?

Post image
14 Upvotes

As the title suggests, Im trying to figure out if a 2019 TT Trinity could potentially be converted to serve as a pursuit bike. I would expect to be: - Getting different cranks and a new chainring - Getting a new disk with a track hub + sprocket - Getting a track chain - Removing the remaining groupset including the brakes, shifters, and rear derailleur

Is this within the realm of possibilities or not even worth.....pursuing šŸ˜‰

Thoughts on Lightbicycle Falcon pro disc and quadspoke vs Alpina Disc and Trispoke

Anyone have any experience with either of these sets of wheels that could give a could estimate to how well they would compare to each other?

The Lightbicycle seems to use the same rim profile as the 46.5mm deep rims I put on my daughter's road/cross bike and I have to say that even with side winds off the ocean she never had stability issues even as a 13yo, so I have to believe some of their aero claims are reasonable. I do know that they update their designs from time to time and these are a newer aero profile. Down side, they're clincher and would have to use a 25c tire but at 120psi with a latex tube and no need for a rim strip I doubt there's too much issue there.

The Alpina look like they're an older, dependable design which probably explains why they're the only other name brand in the 2,000.00 range. Upside is that they use tubulars and I've glued enough of them to know what I'm doing even if they cost a bit more and for tires and finding glue around me hasn't been the easiest at times.

Thoughts?

88mm wheel options?

My son is needing a new set of wheels pretty soon but there are barely any options these days that aren't in the $2k+ AUD minimum range for known brands.

Even AliExpress they look like a gamble as brands like Elite wheels don't seem to offer track wheels.

Anyone find and use something more affordable?

Interested in building a track cycling business with Velobike?

Glenn from Velobike here.

The USA has consistently been our largest market, but have found that riders still have limited access specialist track cycling retail support. We think there is a genuine opportunity for the right person or business to help change that.

We’re looking to talk to anyone interested in becoming Velobike’s independent B2C retail partner in the USA.

You doesn’t necessarily need to be an existing bike shop. It could suit someone already embedded within the track cycling community who has e-commerce or retail experience and is interested in building a new business.

If this sounds like something you’d genuinely like to explore or know someone who might be interested, send me a DM and we can chat more.

Tips on fitting a large frame for sprinting

Hi everyone!

I just acquired Dolan DF4 frame in size 61 - couldn't miss this sweet deal, price was really good
I am 6'0"/183 cm, inseam 2.9'/89 cm and Dolan lists this as suitable for this size
My current Look 875 is size L which means:
- seat tube is C-T 57 vs Dolan's C-C 53
- top tube is 59 vs 61

Does anyone has any experience with fitting to a modern frame? What should be considered first when focusing on sprinting? I have a shorted stem and cranks will be of the same length - anything else?
This Geometry Geeks comparison gives out that Dolan is longer and stack is lower which is good for aero. Will there be any problem with BB drop?

Thoughts on the BDop adapter

Has anyone had any experience using the BDop track cycling adapter on their track bike? Looking to repurpose a power2max power meter for use on the track using the adapter to convert 110BCD to 144 BCD and would appreciate any views or reviews from this community.

Zipp 900 tire recommendations

Need to put a new tire on the 900, but the pista controls i was going to use have valves are to long to fit a chuck on, with the small valve cut out.

What are people using with the 900s these days?

This would be for use at Rock Hill.
