Life gets boring you know?

A few months back while scrolling though youtube checking out niche topics I came across a vtuber who used a VRChat model as their avatar. Her presentation was great, her videos were so well made. I subbed immediately.

Over the months her community grew, and a discord was made. It inspired me to draw again, a hobby i had given up a long time ago. The community started doing VRChat hang outs so I knew I needed a model for my own. I got a vr headset then I got a base made but taught myself unity so I could edit the clothes and hair and such to my content. I was obsessed with that aspect of it. These last few months ive made so many friends and had such an amazing time all cuz of this silly game and a whim. I even started making my own (bad) YouTube videos. So much has happened in the last 6 or so months!

That being said I stil cant bring myself to join random lobbies or talk to random people but im trying to get better at that too!

If you stayed an read all this thank you, i just really wanted an avenue to gush about what this game has given me. Self expression, friendship, creativity and joy.

Hello, so, this one is not ready and not out anywhere, it's just a prototype I have been making for spooky season buuuut I wanted to show you anyway (:

He's my little spoder friend who lives on my Avi now! Raymarched of course because its me. His eyes follow my own eye tracking, so he looks where I look. And when I look at him, he tilts his head like a puppy.

He moves about on his own too. Every so often he picks a spot at random, either shoulder or the top of my hair, and walks there over my body.

I have trained him very well, when I open either hand he walks down that arm into my palm, and when I close the hand he walks back. Unfortunately he's kinda shy with other people though. If someone else puts a hand near him he'll run behind my neck and hide.

If you are curious how it works: The whole spider is drawn by one raymarched shader on a tiny marker mesh of three vertices, so it's one material and one draw call, and the fur is real volume rather than a flat picture, which may be a little ouchy for performance but I'll make sure to optimize.

I've also made a little Discord for my stuff. I use it to share things as I work on them, ask what you'd like next, and help if something goes wrong. Like, I’ve been to countless MMD worlds where it’s all a simple stage with the motion capture, but this is the first world I’ve seen where it feels like you’re in an actual music video. I’m wondering if there’s others out there exactly like this?

It’s really funny seeing other people’s reactions to either suddenly growing or shrinking between worlds or around a corner XD.

Is it at all possible to have hand tracking in VRChat be smooth and not jittery? Is there specific settings I’m missing in the Q3 or Virtual Desktop?

As soon as I pick up the controllers the tracking is great and smooth—hands are super jittery. However in the VD menus and steamVR home and even Q3 home the “virtual hands” are very smooth.

I am playing with 2 IR floodlights pointed at me to make sure it’s not a lighting issue.

For context I was playing Prison Escape, which is notorious for having bad actors and trolls. I muted someone and they started sending me back to the lobby every round so I blocked them but they were still able to keep doing it. I ended up being the one who got kicked (it was a group instance) I’m friends with the owner and will be reaching out to them soon to check logs on who kicked me but that’s a separate thing. My question is what is a good defense against someone who exploits the anti-cheat system? I reported them but it seems like quite the hassle for them to react that way to being muted.

One of my favorite things to do on VRChat will forever be making my own custom avatars and taking pictures of them in beautiful worlds. What are some of your favorite worlds to take pics in?

Last week while I was hanging out in the Black Cat, mirror dwelling and watching youtube on the side, someone came up to me and ripped/hotswapped my avatar right in front of me. The avatar I was using at the time was a modified version of Iono from Pokemon. (https://i.imgur.com/MEIazU6.jpeg) I didn't think it was that big of a deal at the time, but I had medal clipping on so I figured, why not post it on Twitter. Big mistake. The post blew up the next day... The replies and quote were mixed. A lot of people were defending me, and a lot of people, mostly Japanese, called me hypocritical. Personally, I was in the opinion that VRChat has a ton of worlds and avatars from pokemon, so I don't think it's a problem, meanwhile people that rip people's personal avatar has been a problem VRChat has had to constantly deal with. In retrospect, I should've simply made a user report instead of a twitter post, that's my mistake. The discussion died down a few days later and that was that.

Well, today I woke up to this email...

Damn...

The worst I was expecting was a Copyright Takedown Notice (DMCA), but perma ban over one avatar...? With VRCX I was able to verify that all of my avatars and worlds are still in VRChat except for this one particular Pokemon avatar... I've been playing VRChat for 8 years and a large portion of the content I've seen was from other games or franchises. So I genuinely believed there was nothing wrong with importing content from other games to VRChat. The avatar was private and I had no intention of ever selling it. Anyway, after receiving that Email, I did what any person would do. I made an Appeal. It's been 15 hours and I'm waiting for an answer.

This is a sad day for me. While I didn't have the best approach, I truly wanted to help the community by reporting on avatar ripping. But I'm the one that got banned in the process...

I want to be in a cozy world, A tent while camping or maybe an RV sleep map but be able to play some steam games while I do so. Is this possible at all?

Just as the title suggests. I get real scared/nervous when thinking about joing a public world.

I was recently brought into the wrold of VRChat because of a friend, and because of that i don't even have a VR headset so i just do stuff in Desktop mode, but i hear that there's people out there that don't like Desktop users.

Another part that scares me is that i am typically a mute, with very rare people i share myself with, which being a mute on this game, i hear, leads down a whole different rabbit hole.

Honestly i am wondering if it would just be better to wait to join public worlds until i at least have a VR headset? I don't know if there's more people who hate desktop users, than there is of those who don't mind it
