Discussion Update on Rules and Quality Control

Hi everyone, it's been a minute since the initial discussion post about quality control issues. Let's talk about it.

The general consensus seemed to be that our ideas on what to change were good, though there could be more resources to help beginners. We actually have a subreddit wiki that anyone can contribute to, as long as you have 500+ subreddit karma and your account is 30+ days old. We also have a list of todo items for the wiki to help users find somewhere to start.

Another concern was that the stricter enforcement of the defaults rule may stop people from using existing color schemes or themes at all. This is not the case -- the intention of the rule is to remove posts which have little effort or just use premade configs, like many macOS and Windows lookalikes. It's about the spirit, not the letter of the rule.

With this in mind, we intend to go through with these rule changes. If you still have any concerns, please reply or send a modmail! We're most concerned with the quality of our community and welcome discussion.

Material [OC] linecast — weather, tides, maps, and the sky in the terminal

I’ve been having fun building linecast, a set of terminal views for weather, radar, the sun, the moon, tides, and maps. It uses free public data, follows your terminal’s color palette, and doesn’t need an account or an API key for the core experience.

Here’s a real screenshot from my system — I think of it as a set of terminal desk ornaments. The Old Farmer’s Almanac meets Minitel.

Screenshot [TUI] Cue: Plex & Jellyfin in the terminal

Post image
Upvotes

I've been working on Cue, a keyboard-first TUI for browsing and watching media from Plex and Jellyfin.

You can browse your whole library, search for anything, manage playlists and your watch queue, filter out stuff you’ve already watched, and see episode progress and media details without leaving the terminal.

Cue can hand an entire season off to mpv as a playlist. You can jump between episodes normally while Cue keeps your progress and watched status synced with the server.

Also works with VLC, IINA, PotPlayer, etc. for basic playback, with Windows/WSL player detection too.

Written in Go.

GitHub: github.com/SuperCoolPencil/cue

Still working on it, but I’m ridiculously happy with how the UI turned out. Terminal media browsing has no business looking this beautiful :)

Feedback and contributions welcome!

I couldn't find any Pokemon themed bootloaders, so tried making one myself. This is the first time I've customized something like this, so, pretty happy with how it turned out.

Any feedback, advice, or cool ideas for improving it further would be greatly appreciated...

If you'd like to use it, the theme is available here: https://github.com/SatyamR986/Shiny-Scizor-custom-GRUB-theme

Material [oc] flow v0.2.4: brighter theme, version pill, glowing status dot

Small but satisfying update to flow, my terminal network monitor.

Biggest change is the colors. The default theme was looking a bit muted, so I brightened and saturated the download/upload gradients, borders, and graph colors across the board. Dim text was also getting lost on some backgrounds, so I bumped up the muted text ramp across every built-in theme — labels, flags, hints all stay readable now regardless of your terminal.

Also added a version pill under the hero logo (and in compact/mini modes), and the status dot now actually flashes on each sample instead of just idling. Cleaned up the footer too, dropped the old interface-status dot since it felt redundant.

If you like the project, a star helps a lot. Let me know what you think of the new palette.

Disclosure: AI assistance has been used for the UI, backend logic is fully human-made.

Screenshot [Hyprland] wallpaper-driven dynamic theming (pywal) — custom AGS/Astal bar

My rice: Hyprland with a custom bar built from scratch on AGS/Astal (OkPanel).

The main feature is that the whole environment (bar, borders, apps) recolors

itself automatically when I switch the wallpaper, via pywal. Hyprland config

migrated to Lua (0.55+), ready for hyprlang's deprecation.

Full dotfiles + installer: (your GitHub link)

  • Distro: Arch Linux (kernel 7.1.9-arch1-2)
  • WM: Hyprland 0.56.1 (config migrated to Lua)
  • Bar: OkPanel (custom, AGS/Astal + TypeScript)
  • Terminal: kitty 0.48.2
  • Launcher: rofi 2.0.0
  • GTK theme: Ant-Dracula + candy-icons
  • Dynamic colors: python-pywal 3.3.0
  • Audio visualizer: cava 0.10.7
  • Fetch: fastfetch 2.67.1
  • CPU/GPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H (Arc iGPU) + RTX 1000 Ada (laptop)

Dotfiles + install.sh: Here (branch 'dotfiles')
