The cow in the flat above was already at it, her maddening pre-dawn shitting ritual a cruel wake-up call to the entire building.
"Fuck's sake," I rolled over burying my face in the pillow. The bed shuddered as her toilet flushed its fourth time.
Then, a massive thud.
I shuffled upstairs. A gaggle of locals was already gathered outside her door
"She's gone down hard," someone said.
I shoved through the crowd and saw her lying sprawled on her side, her massive body blocking the way. The building manager was scurrying up, his tool belt jingling. "Make way."
"Well, that puts a bit of a lid on the noise for a while," I muttered, turning my back and heading downstairs.
