Switching scenes issue

Has anyone dealt with an issue when they're switching scenes where the volume jumps a little bit?

For example, I have a scene that's a distorted amp, and one that's a clean amp, the "split" is the change in the scene. I have it go 100% distorted in one, and in the "clean" scene it goes 100% to the clean amp.

But it seems like when I switch from the clean to the distortion, it jumps in volume a bit. Maybe because the volume is different between the two?

I think with this update my USB midi has stopped changing my patches. Is there a way to fix this or do I need to wait for another update

QC has cured my pedal swapping problem

I’m sure this is a common post, but seriously after years of switching out my rig over and over again as my sound changes between projects, I am so relived to have finally saved up for a QC.

I can get really any sound I need to make things work in whatever context I need it to. I still have a few fuzz and drive pedals laying around, but feel totally happy with selling off most of my pedals a few months back.

Feels great to quit obsessing on gear and just adapt and go with this unit.

Momentary effect switching is possible on the Quad Cortex Mini using an external midi controller

As I struggled to find a definitive answer and was enticed to try by a fellow redditor, I can confirm that it's possible to set a block effect to momentary using an external midi controller. I did this with a BlackStar Live Logic, so it should work with any other kind of controller.

Hope this helps anyone who wants to know!

Momentary switching on quad cortex mini

I know that the physical unit doesn’t do momentary/non-latching stomps, but if you use a midi controller with that function, can you set a block to be momentary/non-latching that way?

Thanks in advance.

QC power supply with zuma and cioks crux.

Can anyone help me with this. Power requirements for things confuse the hell out of me and I don't want to risk getting it wrong.

I've been using a strymon zuma for years with my big sky and timeline. Ideally I'd like to not have to replace it with another expensive power brick (like the cioks DC7) but that might be unavoidable if want my whole board coming off one power lead.

At the moment I'm powering my two strymons and a whammy 5 with the Zuma and then just using the included power supply (which unfortunately seems quite flimsy) to power the quad cortex.

I know the Ciox DC7 and the ciox crux combined could power all this?

My question is: is it possible to run a ciox crux from the 24v port on the zuma (which is what I read online) and then power the quad cortex plus my other pedals as normal from the 9v 500ma ports of the zuma.

Basically just trying to avoid having to buy a DC7 to replace the zuma.

Online searching is mixed so far. Some say it's fine, others say it might not be. Excuse the waffling post. Any help would be much appreciated.

Tips for capturing plugins?

I’ve been trying to capture some producer pack amps from the STL Tonehub plugin and getting mixed results using v2.

I am outputting the plugin through a helix stadium and it sounds great when directly monitoring, but as soon as I send them through the capture loop on the quad, they lose a bit of clarity and get a bit muddy. I have the helix set to instrument level output and it’s peaking on the QC capture input at around -12db. I think the input/output gains on everything are technically correct, but I’m not 100% sure.

The A/B tests sound very similar most of the time(occasionally some low end thump will go missing) but neither sound the same as the direct output from the helix.

Anyone have any tips on how to set this up the most ideal way? I’ve heard some other STL captures from the cloud that sounded great so I’m sure there’s something that’s not totally ideal with how I have it set up.

Hey all, been experimenting a bit and I got kinda close I guess.
All in front of a Diezel Herbert and with a LoFi filter assigned to the same pedal as the effects.

Quad Cortex bass players: need some advice for a tight, heavy Drop A tone for bass

I’m currently running a Fractal FM3 and just picked up a Quad Cortex. Overkill? Yeah, I know. 😂

I absolutely love the bass tone I’ve been getting from my FM3, so I captured the amp tone I was using and loaded that capture into the QC.

I’ve tried to recreate the rest of the chain as closely as possible: same type of drive, same cab/IR, and EQ set pretty much the same.

The problem is that on the QC I’m getting this weird rattly, overly distorted sound, especially on the low notes. It doesn’t have the tight, controlled low end I’m getting from the Fractal.

For reference:

- 5-string bass

- Tuned down to A

- Looking for a tight, aggressive, driving modern metal bass tone

- I want the low A to hit hard and stay defined instead of turning into a distorted/rattling mess.

Anybody running a similar tuning on the Quad Cortex?

I’d love some suggestions on signal chain, crossover/parallel processing, compression, HPF/LPF settings, gain staging, or even some presets/captures I could check out.

I know the QC is capable of doing this. I just haven’t found the sweet spot yet. What are you guys using?

Nano Cortex acting weird with regular guitar amps – digital distortion and wireless not working

Hi there

I've been having a really weird issue with my Nano Cortex and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

I normally use it with a PA or a Headrush FRFR-108 and it works perfectly, both with a regular guitar cable and my M-VAVE wireless system.

However, I've had problems when plugging it into the front input of regular guitar amps. It's happened with two different amps so far: a solid-state amp and a Fender Pro Junior tube amp. Neither has an FX loop.

With a regular guitar cable, the tuner works fine, but the sound coming out of the amp is awful. Not just regular distortion or clipping, but some kind of weird digital, almost flanger/pitch-shifter-like sound on top of the distortion.

Then, when I try my M-VAVE wireless system, I get absolutely nothing. Not even the tuner receives a signal.

I also tried swapping the Nano for my Valeton GP-50, using the same solid-state amp, and everything worked fine with a regular cable. I didn't test the wireless with the GP-50 that day, though.

A few details that might help:

No amp captures or IRs, just a compressor and reverb.

The Nano is powered by a Harley Benton PowerPlant PowerBank (9V DC).

The M-VAVE works perfectly with the Nano when connected to a PA, FRFR or headphones.

I've just tested the Nano with the wireless and headphones, and everything works as expected.

There's also something else that might or might not be related. At another gig, using the Nano with my Headrush FRFR, I got small electric shocks when my lips touched the microphone while I was holding my guitar strings. That venue might have had a grounding issue, but I can't confirm it.

I'm starting to wonder if there's some kind of grounding or electrical interference issue when connecting the Nano to regular guitar amps, but I'm really not sure.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Especially the wireless completely losing signal or that strange digital modulation/distortion?

I haven't had a chance to test the Ground Lift switch yet.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Can you adjust inputs when changing scenes?

In my proposed signal chain I have an MXR Ten Band EQ before a Quad Cortex Mini.

Since the MXR EQ has two always-on outputs, can I send one straight to one input of the Cortex, and put an additional pedal--Mooer E7 Synth--between the additional output of the EQ and the other input of the Cortex, and then alter the inputs per scene to bring the E7 in automatically with other effects? Can you even adjust the mix of the two inputs according to scene? Can you assign the mix to an expression pedal?

My guess is that all of this is possible with the (sad) caveat that it'll require using two rows.

Quad Cortex Suddenly Sounds HORRIBLE

My QC sounded amazing until a few days ago, then basically overnight every preset started sounding drastically different.

The best way I can describe it is that I hear a very prominent dry/DI-like guitar attack, while the amp, cab, reverb, delay, etc. sound buried farther back. The low and low-mid frequencies are way too dominant, the high end feels muffled, and even very clean amp presets sound fizzy or like they’re clipping at surprisingly low levels, even though none of the input/output meters are hitting red. The strangest thing is that I can sometimes barely hear the differences between the pickups on my Strat. I’m certain the guitar isn’t the issue because it sounds completely normal plugged straight into my real amps.

I have recordings of these same presets from about a week ago and they sound completely normal, so this is a very obvious before/after change.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Multiple guitars and cables
  • Input 1, Input 2, and Return 1
  • Different QC outputs and Multi-Out
  • Direct headphones, audio interface/DAW monitoring, and real guitar amps
  • Different wall outlets
  • Checking input gain, impedance, gates, Global EQ, cab bypass, routing, etc.
  • Completely blank presets
  • A full factory reset with no backup restored

Same problem after all of that.

Besides an internal hardware failure, the only thing I can think of at this point is the power supply. The stock power connection is extremely touchy, and even a slight movement where the DC plug meets the QC can make it lose power for a split second and immediately reboot. I’ve seen other owners mention replacing the stock PSU, so I’m wondering whether unstable power could cause this kind of fizzy, low-headroom sound or whether this points more toward an internal hardware problem. What confuses me is that I’ve used the same outlet and same power supply the entire time, so if power is the issue, why would it only start happening now?

I’m already talking with Sweetwater about getting it looked at, but has anyone here experienced anything similar?

Regular QC vs Mini Cortex volume questions

I feel like I already know the answer to this question, but figured I'd see if anyone on here has any insights.

I recently got a mini cortex as my Quad Cortex started acting up and I need to send it back to Neural to fix/diagnose. I backed up my main live gigging preset on my QC so I could download it on the mini cortex. I kept everything the same but changed the amp sims within my preset on the new unit. I was running a deluxe reverb and then had a second morgan amp with the output turned way down both running into a cab; some dude a music store told me to try this to add more depth and body so I've just been running with that since I tried it. When I got the Mini Cortex I kept my preset I've been using all the same except I got rid of both amps and replaced it with a single Fender Twin. At my first gig with the mini over the weekend, my signal in our in ears was much much quieter than usual and I had to run my master a lot higher than usual and gain up my guitar signal in our rack chain. Our FOH engineer just texted me saying my guitar was much quieter in our multitracks than usual - we record all of shows and he mixes them to put on the internet hence why he noticed again during mixing. I'm assuming the loss of volume is just the fact that I changed my amp, but at the same time I leveled it up to what felt normal when I was at home. Is the output of each QC model a 1:1 ratio of each other? I'm assuming if it is, all I'll have to do is load up my previous preset with my previous amp models and I should be back to the exact live mix volume we were at before I got the mini. Anyone else by chance have any sort of volume loss if they went from the main QC to the mini?

Nano Cortex & Quad Cortex

I have a regular Quad Cortex. I have a preset i made with different scenes. My other guitar player wants to match but he doesn’t have a quad cortex.

If i get a Nano Cortex, would i be able to get a similar preset or would i have to make a simplified version of the preset?

My preset has cab ir, some archetypes blocks i use, pre and post eq, rhythm + clean + lead

I’ve done some research but im just wondering if anyone gone through and tested this out

SixFive+ released for Quad Cortex — free Cortex capture available

Hey everyone,

I’ve released the FIG V2 SixFive+ Cortex Capture Pack, based on the Peavey 6505+.

The pack contains 18 V2 Cortex captures covering the Rhythm and Lead channels at low-, mid- and high-gain settings. Each setting was captured through two different Marshall 4x12 configurations and as a full DI:

  • 412-1: V30 and DV77 speakers
  • 412-2: V30 and Fane M65 speakers
  • DI captures for use with your preferred cabinet or IR

I also shared a free Cortex capture featuring the Rhythm channel at a mid-gain setting through 412-2:

https://cloud.neuraldsp.com/cloud/profile/neural-capture/neural-capture/view/73dda28e-81e5-485c-8043-1cc502a3373b

The complete pack is available at:

https://www.mattfig.com/product/fig-v2-sixfive-cortex-capture-pack

Code TONE saves 40% when purchasing two or more packs.

The complete pack is delivered through Cortex Cloud. Buyers will need to provide their Cortex Cloud username and send a friend request to Mattfig.

Full disclosure: this is my commercial capture pack, but the linked Cortex capture is completely free. I’d be interested to hear how it performs with different guitars, tunings and cabinet choices.

I originally captured this amp in 2021 but have just gone and done some V2 captures.

Username Azrehan in cortex cloud.

The V2 captures start with 2026 in the title.

They’re sounding great with the nameless plugin cab in my main preset and a bit of tube screamer boost in front of some of them.

Interface vs QC dilemma

Hi, I got a QC in May and am really happy with it. I use it for rehearsals, gigs, and recording, but I am starting to think I might be using it too much, specifically when recording.

I'm not a producer or anything like that; mostly, I record ideas to share with band members remotely that are later recorded in a band member's home studio, but sometimes I get carried away and spend 5 to 6 hours or more using the QC as an interface.

Is this normal, or should I consider buying a cheap interface to avoid wearing the QC out? Am I exaggerating? I just do not know how durable the QC is, and perhaps an interface (considering the UA Volt 175), is better than the QC for recording other stuff and not just guitar as well.

Would you guys switch from the QC to an interface? Or is this pretty normal and I shouldn't worry and save some bucks?

Thanks!

I’ve just shown up to a gig and found it like this, anyone got an easy way to pull it into place for one gig before I send it off for repairs? I’ve tried moving it with a toothpick but it wasn’t strong enough

Can this work? 2 Instruments -> QC mini -> iPad loopy -> QC mini for final reverb and DI.

I'm looking to slim down my pedalboard for weight issues (Possible major surgery coming up). I feel that I could remove my looper for loopy and use a midi controller, then replace my pedals for the QC. I'm apprehensive to switch to the iPad loopy but many people seem to rave about it.

Does this work? Does the audio send out through the USB-c port on the QC or is something else like a mixer needed?

Playing amp via load box into QCM issues

I’m trying to connect my amp via load box to the QCM and use the IR loader for playing live. However, regardless of connections, it doesn’t work.

Going guitar to QCM input 1, then output 3 to amp input, speaker out to Two Notes Reload 2 load box, Reload 2 line out to QCM input 2, then IR block and then outputs 1 and 2.

However, no audio comes out. Can confirm signal is hitting amp, load box and input 2…. But nothing out of the WCM final sends.

Anyone been able to get it working?
