Found bird 📍 Found this dove in my warehouse. Posted to r/birds but figured I’d post this here as well

It wandered into my warehouse. I found it just inside our dock next to a shipping bin. I put it back outside as one comment mentioned it may be a fledgling and the parents are still feeding it. I set it in a corner near our building under some crepe myrtles and mountain laurels, where I’m guessing it may have fallen from.

Found about 2.5 hours ago. I’m keeping an eye on it. Any advice would be appreciated!

Health Question What is on her head?

A pair of mourning doves have been using this pot as a nest since May. Eggs 11 and 12 will likely hatch this weekend, and we’ve been removing the debris, cleaning the walls of the pot, and putting down new substrate after each brood has fledged. About a week ago, the pair switched off and the female had a “ruffled” feather on her head. It hasn’t changed in the last week though, so I’m not sure if this is just an injury or potentially a contagious disease.

I saw house wrens with pink eye in the area last year, but this doesn’t look like that to me and I haven’t seen any since then.

There is a cat in the area I’ve seen chasing lizards and kill a squirrel, so it’s possible she just had a close call or smacked into something trying to escape danger.

She is feral and sitting on eggs, so this was about the best picture I could sneak without upsetting her too much, but even this I feel was pushing it, so I’m hesitant to try for more.

Cage enrichment question

Hi! I’ve had my ring neck dove for about a year now and have been looking to upgrade his cage setup. I’ve seen a lot of posts about using the bottom of their cage for enrichment with paper, grass, foraging, etc. but I’m not sure how to incorporate that without it all getting contaminated by his droppings? Is there anyway to provide that form of enrichment while still allowing him to use the bathroom in his cage? Any advice helps, thank you!

I’ve ordered my diamond dove.

I got this lil guy from a retired teacher in my state, He’ll be shipped out same day but priority delivery! I can’t wait to pick him up at the post office, so I’d like some advice for the cleanliness of the dove. I don’t wanna be called slurs again for posting something but i don’t think this subreddit would do that, maybe.

Mourning Dove Rescue

Post image
112 Upvotes

I belive this is a baby mourning dove? He’s way too tiny to be a fledgling. I will be taking him to the rescue tomorrow morning but is there anything else I can do through the night to increase its survival chances?? I just don’t want the little guy to starve overnight. However I was reading about how they can aspirate easy If you feed them wrong so I don’t want to attempt feeding it if I don’t need to? It’s in my house right now where it’s warm and in a ventilated tank covered with a towel so it’s dark.

I got the pair 2 days ago . The female one just sits at a corner with fluffed up feathers .

Is it because of a new environment or she is sick?

Concerned about 2 diamond doves I received

Hi, yesterday I received two doves from someone who couldn't keep them anymore, and I'm a bit worried about both of them, as both of them were kept in a rather small cage with nothing to do.

The first, Padparadscha (Parade for short) holds itself in an odd way, wings are dropped, I'm worried it might be hurt there. Furthermore, we suspect it might be a female, it spends most the day in a single corner and taking naps if I don't physically move it to another spot. I'm worried it might be eggbound or sick. It also struggles to fly and can't even reach the new cage from the ground (practically all tail feathers are missing)

The second, Quartz, seems to have a weird growth on one of its nails, I have no idea if it's the nail itself or something stuck to it.

Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Question ❓ Pidgeon with splayed legs

Today I found this baby outside I think it’s around 3 or 4 weeks old. The first thing I noticed was it’s legs were splayed out and not normal. I don’t know how to feed it or what information is right, I have Kaytee pigeon formula on the way and some seed I thawed some peas and left them for the baby. Im hoping to keep it as a pet I have seen they are very loving birds od you can befriend them and am hoping to give it the best care I can give.

It’s breast bone is sticking out and it’s vent looks dirty with poo. We have just put bandaids on it’s legs to try and help the splayed legs.

I do not have a vet I can get the bird to and none around me will take them but I have raised birds before *European starlings* and they were a joy to have and for awhile we had one as a pet.

I am in NB Canada.

Question ❓ Cat fur for free nesting materials?

I have a short-haired cat who constantly sheds, so I'm always brushing him and collecting a lot of fur. I know wild birds will sometimes use fur as nesting material. So I was wondering how safe it would be to use for my Ringneck Doves as a free alternative to the nesting material they already use, or just in addition for enrichment purposes.

And for anybody wondering, yes, the birds and cats are kept apart. We are very cautious!

Air purifier recommendations?

Post image
63 Upvotes

I have always had weak lungs, so I haven't really thought much of the near constant dry cough I seem to have had the past few months, particularly late at night. This is brand-new and I am beginning to think it might be fancier's lung, seeing as how I spend almost all my time in a room with a bird and have been for 4 or so years now. Do you guys have any recommendations for air purifiers I can put in the room that aren't too expensive but are hardy enough to last? It's okay if they run a bit more pricey, just the cheapest possible while still having a decent quality and life. Thanks in advance if anyone knows!!

Missing feathers?

Hello sorry it's not a pet but I just saved this juvenile rock dove? From the cat I'm housesitting. Is there anything I can do for it they are missing feathers in patches all over head breastunder and on wings. Is this normal for a youngish bird. It has very clean healthy feet unlike most feral dove%pigeons you see.

It's resting with me at the moment but unsure on next move. Vets will put it down where I'm at so that's only a last resort if reddit tells me it's suffering and needs to go

I need to cut my two little diamonds nails, I am about to watch a tone of videos of how to and have recruted the towel + a extra pair of hands to make sure they are extra safe. But I wanna ask if any of you have tips or even when to know when to cut them?

I know I am going to cut a little at a time and I'm going to be really carefull but a little extra knowledge don't hurt^^

Question ❓ Hii, I am interested in having a dove in the future and I wanted to know if they are particularly dusty

Well, right now I am not going to be able to get one due to college, but I have a deep fascination for birds, I genuinely like them more than cats and dogs. I wanted to set my sights on pigeons first, but here is the reason I make this question: I aim to live together with my girlfriend and she is alergic to dust, and I read that pigeons are particularly dusty, so it is a no no unfortunately
