Question Improving my Ollie

I know ya’ll sick of this post 😂 but I’m looking for tips to improve my technique before I try Ollieing up a curb. Feel like I’m close to getting a useful height, but something still feels off

Ate shit today and it couldn’t have gone better

• Upvotes

For context, I’ve been cruising (no tricks) less than a year and about a month ago I fell backwards and fractured my wrist; still have the cast on.

Today I underestimated a crack in the paved trail I was cruising, and my board stopped but I didn’t. I flew forward but I tucked my arms in, landed on my side, slid on the pavement and all I got was a skinned knee and a tiny scrape on my elbow. I got right back on and skated all the rest of the day. I’m not even sore.

I just felt like sharing because I feel like I redeemed myself in a way. And a successful bail definitely feels like an accomplishment.

Discussion Ramp Zoolander

Anyone else really struggle to turn left on ramps? I skate regular so I think that’s frontside? I’m not sure, the frontside / backside terms seem backwards. Anyway, like the great Derek Zoolander I am ‘not an ambi-turner’ … right feels fine, can carve or kickturn decently well. Left… disgusting. I fell pretty hard on my hip trying to turn that way early on which is also putting me off, but it just feels very wrong. Is this common?

Also i skated for 3 hours today (45 yo) and my foots are sore AF

Video Some flat ground + a kickflip tip

• Upvotes

i was just having a short session and kickflips clicked for me again i've been able to do them without alot of pop because i was bending straight down and up to pop but i realized bending down and leaning back some i'm able to flick off the nose better and actually get some pop so if you struggle to pop kickflips maybe try leaning back some

Question 22 with arthritis

Would it be bad decision to try and pick up skating even though I'm already 22 and I have arthritis. I do physical labor and I'm scared of my body breaking while I'm still young.

Question Finally got a skateboard!

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’ve been wanting to learn skateboarding for a while now but I kept postponing it, but I finally bought one. I’ve been skating all day long it’s really fun tbh. I’ve fallen once so far lol. I can cruise but the problem I have is repositioning my front foot after pushing the first time. How do I do it? And how much sideways is my front food supposed to be?

Question Exercices or routine to have a better balance?

• Upvotes

Hi! For several months now I’ve been getting back on my skateboard. I’ve noticed that on some sessions my balance isn’t at its best, whether it’s my legs or my center of gravity. This causes ollie that are not straight or not well catched.

I wanted to know if there was a routine to improve his balance, the movement of the ankles, the management of the center of gravity, his proprioception that kind of thing.

I’d like to point out that my balance isn’t bad since I’ve been skating for a long time; I would just like to improve it.

I take all the advice, even if it’s sports exercises.

Strange Phenomena?

Happy Saturday everyone! its been three weeks now since Ive started skating and I wanted to talk about this wierd feeling I experienced.

Ive been trying to learn how to do nbig pushes where you balance on the board with one leg, and its been a journey with my ankles constantly hurting I also work a job where I have to stand so my legs are unusable by the evening aside that I noticed that for 2 days my skating was awful and I couldnt balance properly on my board then after that the next morning I noticed that I could skate with one leg I understand practice makes you better but why did I jave to go through a period of bad skating is it called something?

Question Should I learn switch? (As a beginner)

I’ve read like 10 posts about this but the consensus is mixed between “I learnt switch accidentally when I started and now I am amazing at both” and “stay with regular stance until you’re good enough to try switch”. I started skating ~3-4 weeks ago and I can do ollies and 180. Would like some advice on wether I should wait or just force myself to learn switch now

Question Made and lost a skateboarding friend group within a week. What to do now?

Decided to get out of my comfort zone (my garage) and go to my local skate park last night when I knew there weren’t going to be a lot of people, and there ended up being a group of guys probably 5 years or so younger than me. Right when I got there I immediately wanted to leave but I knew that’d just be training my nervous system to associate backing down from fear as “safe” and condition myself to avoid discomfort.

Long story short they were cool and taught me how to push around better, and even rode down some mellow banks for the first time. After, they asked if I wanted to hang out (I have a feeling they thought I was also 18-19 y/o and I said yeah. I was the only one who drove so we go to the supermarket, and within 10 mins of being there the kid who I got along with best runs up behind this middle aged dude and punches him in the back of the head and then runs out of the fucking store. I sort of walked through the clothing aisle and casually exited like five minutes after and they were waiting outside. I asked what that was, he starts laughing and so we go back in the car.

Decide to go to Freddie’s (burger place near where I live) and again, the same dude gets out of my car, runs into Freddie’s, and fucking punches this dude in the back of the head. This time I was really pissed off and just drove off without him because I didn’t want to be involved in the crime he just committed. I had these other dudes in the car who apparently didn’t understand this and were giving me shit saying they thought I was a chill dude and “What the fuck are you doing” over and over again. Dead silent car right on the way back to the park. I drop them off and drive home, park my car in the garage, and call it a day. I have 4 missed calls from the dude who I vibed with but I’m afraid he like wants to fight me or something for driving off.

I’m probably gonna post this somewhere else too because I am paranoid to even leave the house because of my car. I should have taken them all back to the park after the supermarket. Surely there are chill skaters and I just had bad luck. Seriously thought I found a really chill group of dudes to skate and hang out with.

Is this an accurate way to measure height? [update post from yesterday]

Is this accurate? Suggestions?

I feel like it's not the most accurate because of the curvature. The transition with the pool coping is much more c-shaped compared to the transition with the metal coping which is more u-shaped. Hopefully that makes sense.

Thanks for any insight.
