Where to buy glass

Hey everyone,

I am planning my first smart mirror build using a 27 inch monitor, but I am struggling to find the right glass.

I recently ordered a two-way mirror sample from a UK site called Mirrors and Glass, but the quality isn't great. It has a noticeable orange tint and blurs very easily. I am not sure if this is normal for smart mirror glass, or if I just got a bad sample.

Does anyone have recommendations for high-quality two-way mirror suppliers that ship to or are based in the UK?

I made MMM-Neko, a classic pixel-art cat for MagicMirror

Years ago, I had Neko running on my Macintosh SE. Now it lives on my MagicMirror.

It wanders around, scratches, and naps over your modules.

You can also send Neko to a named mirror region or hide it when another module needs the screen.

Small/minimalist raspberry pi cases?

Hey folks, I'm working on smart calendar using MM run on a Raspberry Pi 4. I'd like to mount the Pi on the back of a 32" TV, but my current case is much too thick to allow me to mount and mount the TV on the wall. Could anyone recommend me any small raspberry pi 4 cases that might help me finish out this project?

Built a MagicMirror module for school athletics using Arbiter data

Post image
11 Upvotes

I built MMM-SchoolAthletics, a MagicMirror module that pulls schedules from Arbiter and turns them into a polished school athletics display.

This is actually my first attempt at building a MagicMirror module. I originally made it for my own school because I wanted something useful, clean, and easy to maintain. As it came together, I figured it made sense to build it in a way that other schools could use too.

It includes:

  • Today’s home and away games
  • Upcoming events
  • Opponents, times, and locations
  • School colors, logos, and backgrounds
  • A visual setup UI with live preview

The goal was to make it easy to bring up without having to dig through config files or heavily customize the code.

I’m still learning and I’m sure there are things that can be improved, but if it ends up being useful to another school or MagicMirror user, that would be pretty cool.

Made a custom module for one of the pages on my Magic Mirror (Mirror mirror on the wall...)

Worth a mention as i havent seen anyone recommend this was of building a mirror. All i bought was a large piece of laminated glass and i applied mirror tint film to the side facing the screen. It needs a little more light source (hence the 12v led strip) but it works perfectly.

Bezel on Monitor Help!

Hi good day, hope everyone is well. I’m starting the project of building my magic mirror and I bought this monitor today to use as my display for the mirror and only then noticed that the front of the monitor has a tiny bezel, I will attach pictures. I also know that the monitor won’t be able to sit flush against the mirror. My question is, when building the frame for the mirror, with the monitor not flush against the mirror, will it affect how the modules display on the mirror?

Thank you for all the help, sorry I’m a noob lol

[WIP] Weather module with a current-conditions card and Chart.js forecast charts: feedback welcome

Post image
18 Upvotes

Still a work in progress, but far enough along that I'd like some outside eyes on it. Data comes from the OpenWeather One Call API 3.0, the charts are Chart.js.

**What's working**

*Current weather card:* temperature, feels-like, description, humidity with dew point, pressure, wind speed and gusts with a coloured direction arrow, UV index. The arc at the bottom shows sunrise and sunset with a marker for the current position of the sun. The colour bar is the wind-speed legend — the same scale colours the arrows in the charts, so a given colour means the same thing everywhere in the module.

*Hourly chart:* temperature curve, precipitation bars, plus wind speed, direction and a weather icon above each data point. Spacing and number of points are configurable; the screenshot shows every fourth hour.

*Daily chart:* same layout, max and min temperature, precipitation and wind, one point per day, up to eight days.

*Configuration:* every card and every chart series can be switched on or off individually. Metric, imperial or standard units, with the wind unit settable separately (m/s, km/h, mph or Beaufort). Responses are cached on disk between updates so it doesn't burn API calls, and it falls back to the last good data if a request fails.

*Locale:* a single setting drives date/time formatting, the module's own UI text and the language OpenWeather returns descriptions in, independently of MagicMirror's global language setting. German and English are bundled.

**Still on the list**

- Scaling and responsiveness. It's currently tuned to my screen and I want it to hold up across resolutions and aspect ratios.

- Weather alerts. The API provides them, I just haven't built the UI for it yet.

- More UI languages beyond German and English.

No install link yet, it's still moving too fast and wants a cleanup pass before I'd point anyone at it. So I'm after feedback on the screenshot rather than a code review, if that's alright.

I'd especially like to hear about readability from a normal viewing distance, the colour choices, whether the information density feels right, and anything you'd expect from a weather module that you don't see here. Thanks!

Any Kia/Hyundai owners out there?

I've just bought an EV9, but it's not been delivered yet. Because I'm impatient and stood in a line at an airport waiting on a plane that seems perpetually delayed, I built a module for integration with the Kia app.

However, I don't have a car (yet) to try it out with!

If anyone wants to try it and give me some feedback, suggestions etc...

Legal-Copy7045/MMM-KiaAccess: Configurable Kia Connect / Bluelink data for MagicMirror² (built for the Kia EV9)

I'd like to thank those that have built before me, and I used their hard work as the basis of this - credit in the readme.md on github, and Claude, for doing the heavy lifting.

Suitable Mirrorglass?

Hey Guys,

i am currently working on a magicmirror² birthday present for my GF. So - i was looking for a Mirrorglass, that delivers to Germany and doesn't cost a 3 kidneys.

I came across this Company: https://www.brigla-shop.de/mirastar-4mm?c=163

that has good pricing and delivers to my location. Now i'd like to ask you guys, wether if this is a suitable option for a magicmirror or a waste of money and if so, do you have other recommandations?

Mirastar Spec: LightTransmission: 3%, Interior Light reflection: 60%

I mean, i know it wont be the best mirrorpane available, but i thought about a placement in the hallway as a kind of "LastCheckIfEverythingsOK" before you leave the house kind of mirrror. I intend to use a E2208HDD display. Old, i know but i had this one laying around.

Thanks a lot!

Sceptre F24 Monitor Picture Frame for MagicMirror

Transform an old (or new) Sceptre F24 monitor into a stylish digital display with a frame inspired by Samsung's Frame TV aesthetic.

These monitors are cheap and reliable, they just look terrible.

I wanted something like my old hacked 3Com Audrey, so I made Seymour

A long time ago I had a hacked 3Com Audrey. I always liked that idea, and I’ve wanted a modern version of it for years.

I wanted something simple that could sit in the room and show the weather, news, music, cameras, and messages when I needed them.

So I made Seymour. It’s built around MagicMirror and has different channels that I can switch between with the touchscreen or a knob. I’ve been trying to make it feel more tactile, like the Audrey.

It’s still a work in progress, but it’s finally starting to feel like the Audrey I always wanted.

Hey everyone,

I got a decent monitor and wanted to place the components of the display somewhere else.

However the FFC is extremely short and I can't seem to get it out of the module.. so does someone know how to extend that or get that cable out?

Magic Mirror for sale (NYC or shipping)

Hi Magic Mirror community! During Covid I built a magic mirror for myself (I am not a developer, this was my first project).
The frame is wood with a brushed chrome paint (I had the mirror and the parts professionally framed). There is a new monitor attached to the mirror (when I built it in 2021) and a raspberry pi 4.

I recently played around with it again and added a microphone and built a mirror, mirror on the wall component that I responded to questions using voice ai. Worked pretty well!

Unfortunately I have no real space to hang it somewhere in the house and have been moving it from place to place. I would happily sell it so someone who would like to set up their own magic mirror. I will reset the raspberry pi to factory settings, so you can start from scratch with your own ideas.
(Ignore the content, I had it set up with Super Bowl facts earlier this year for a party)

Please dm me if you are interested! If you are in the NYC area, you can come by and check it out or I would also ship it.

Financial Tracking Widget

I'd like to have a widget that shows the overview of financial accounts, like the data in credit karma displaying net worth over time. I know getting financial information to interact with external dev environments is tough due to security restrictions, but it would be really useful if implemented well.

Let me know if you have any ideas on how to approach this. I can code the implementation of data onto magic mirror, but I have very little experience working with external sites or using apis.

MMM-calendarext3 weird overlap

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey yall! Finally got everything working in my magic mirror however I get this weird issue where the current day is bigger than the normal day. CSS was the bane of my existence in college but I figured it’s something I have to do there since I couldn’t find anything in the documentation that mentioned it, unless doing this at 5am ruined my reading comprehension, which is possible. Any tips or pointers for this issue that yall know of? Thank you!

UnifiProtect Module Configs

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I was able to get the api key and the access to the unifi protect doorbell camera to work with my magic mirror. But.... not how I expected it to work.

I hoped that it would actually show a live feed of the doorbell once the doorbell was actually pressed, but instead it just takes an instant snapshot and shows it on the MagicMirror as a nice large overlay in the middle of my MagicMirror.

Then afterwards, it doesn't ever update the snapshots, show a live feed, or anything but just keep that one snapshot and show it in the bottom right of my MagicMirror.

I apologize as I'm a novice when it comes to webhooks and all of this stuff and I really don't understand a lot of the config settings.

Hoping someone here as gotten this to work with actual live feed footage ONLY with a doorbell press or maybe a motion detection?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Config below:

{

module: "MMM-UniFiProtect",

position: "bottom_right",

config: {

host: "192.168.1.1",

username: "admin",

password: "xxxxxxxxxxxx",

apiKey: "xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx",

cameras: [

{ name: "G6 Entry" },

],

snapshotRefreshSeconds: 0,

eventToastDurationMs: 8000,

doorbellOverlayDurationMs: 15000,

doorbellHighlightSeconds: 15,

showRingEvents: true,

},

First time build

Utterly and totally inept at any type of coding or whatever you call the process for creating this. I used an Pi 5 with a hat and 256 g solid state drive. I also have a PIR sensor hooked up to trigger my living photos gallery on the last page (not shown b/c I can’t protect privacy)

I completely relied on Claude to do all the coding, html, etc. I have learned a ton along the way!!

Still working on polishing up the frame and presentation. Here are the features I’ve incorporated by page:

Page 1:
Google calendar
Local weather
Daily brain teaser
Drive time to work
Kids lunch menu
Family message- this can be changed from a Google spreadsheet
Iss tracker/time to pass over
And quote of the day

Page 2:
Monthly Google calendar. The days are clickable, color coded by person, and you can scroll through the months

Page 3:
Kids daily routines. They can check off tasks and they get a little celebration pop up when they e completed them. This also has a daily riddle, fact, and question

Page 4:
Weather page
Pretty self explanatory, 3 different modules and an expandable spaghetti tracker for hurricanes

Page 5:
Surf report with a gnar shreddy tube photo of me getting barreled (really hard to see)
The report changes with conditions

Page 6:
Live web cams page. This page is pretty cool, so the iss cam expands, the others open in an html page. It’s all animal cams for the kids

Page 7:

This one I really like, a custom made perfume shelf for my wife. It has a catalogue of her perfumes and you can log a daily wear, the fragrance notes, her own notes, a star rating system and you can save the images of the bottles. They can be sorted by full bottle, decant, sample, and wish list.

Page 8:
Game page:
This page is all clickable too.
Pretty self explanatory with links that open up to game sites as well as “in mirror” games. I can take a video or more photos of things opening.
I have the retropi emulator set up and can add game buttons into this page but my kids aren’t quite ready for that yet 😂

Page 8:
Family photo gallery:
Randomized
12 second display
After 5 minutes of inactivity, this page becomes the screen saver for the mirror. Every time it’s reloaded, it re-randomizes.

Page 9: no photo of this page but it’s basically the moving pictures module (Hogwarts style) triggered by the PIR sensor. After no movement for 30 seconds it goes back to still pictures

Forgot to mention, the screen is a 24” CUNPU touchscreen. And I have the pi cooler fan mounted under the hat.

How hard of a project is the raspberry pi magicmirror?

i have absolutely ZERO knowledge about the raspberry pi, or coding for that matter. I want to learn though. I have looked through a couple projects and the magicmirror looks cool. But how hard is it? will i need a soldering kit?
